Hey, Product Friends! ✨
Welcome to Tokyo Design Community, we are the leading AI-driven product design communities in Japan.
We're focused on AI-native practical insights, real-world experience, job-hunting in Japan, career advancement and learning together.

This session, we're tackling two questions every designer quietly wonders about: what does growth really look like today, and how do you actually get hired? We'll wrap up with a hands-on portfolio workshop where you can work on your own portfolio, case study, or resume with the credit sponsors from Lovable and Tapnow.

For a long time, the path seemed clear: master the craft, earn the next title.
At the same time, the hiring bar has never been higher. Teams expect broader skill sets, and building a portfolio that stands out is a challenge of its own. You're practicing with AI and shipping with vibe coding tools, but is that enough to land the job you want?

That's why we're inviting speakers from different backgrounds to share their insights and insider tips: a designer who has grown across disciplines, and a former UX designer turned recruiter who now sees the hiring side up clos

You might be wondering:

  • Should I go deeper in my specialty or broaden my skill set?
  • How do I know which sideways move is the right one for me?
  • How do recruiters read a designer's background, especially a non-linear one?
  • What makes a candidate stand out in today's AI-era job market?

🎙️Featured Speakers:
Vincent Wijaya

Vincent is a Design Director (Product & Experience) at VML & Ogilvy Japan. He works across industries and business challenges, helping teams figure out the right problems to solve and turning them into products, services and experiences. He also leads the product design practice in the agency.
He started out in graphic design and gradually moved into brand, product and experience design. Over 13 years across Indonesia, Singapore and Japan, his work has shifted from focusing on the thing being designed to asking why it should exist in the first place. He still likes getting his hands dirty with the work whenever he can. Vincent has led design solutions for brands across APAC including FWD, Bangkok Bank, Coach, Rakuten Mobile, ANA and Roche.
Outside work, he is building a small independent press focused on creative documentary, starting with stories from Indonesia.

Topic: "Grow Sideways, Stay Rooted"
In this session, Vincent will share how he thinks about growing as a designer today. Starting out in graphic design and editorial, he moved into branding, then product and experience design. Each sideways step gave him a little more range, and over time that range changed how he worked, from someone who executes to someone who shapes the problem. He'll also share the other side of the story: why range without depth can be just noise, and why every move only worked because he had something solid to grow from.

Meg
Topic: "Lock in, Take risks"
Born in Mongolia, raised in the states, Meg started her career as a product designer, then pivoted to recruiting, giving her a rare view from both sides of the hiring table. In this session, she'll share her insider insights on job-hunting as a designer today: what recruiters look for, how to present your experience, and the common mistakes that hold candidates back.
