1/17(土)青山国連大前 16:30集合、17:00スタート
1st ride of the year. We will be visiting several shrines to pray for good fortune as part of our traditional Hatsumode ride.
When:
- We will meet at 16:30 and then start the ride at 17:00. If you are there, you are welcome to join us in the ride. We will not pass an attendee list. So please be on time.
Where:
- You'll find us in front of United Nations University. There is a farmers market on Saturday afternoons and we meet on the sidewalk. Just look out for people with bicycles (some of them strange, e.g. tall bikes).
Route:
- We'll be riding through central Tokyo, passing by a number of Shrines and temples (after all it’s our Hatsumode ride).
Duration of ride:
- The duration of the ride will depend on our speed, but you can drop off anytime during the ride (just let someone know so we don't think we lost you). 2-3 h is a good estimate.
- We will stop during the ride for a rest.
- please note that in Japan you cannot bring a bicycle on the train without it being in a bag
What to bring:
- a bicycle (with lights)
If you don't have a bicycle, you could rent one, e.g. with docomo: http://docomo-cycle.jp/shibuya/en/
Speed / Fitness / Skills required
- Riding speed is very relaxed.
- Distance: about 15-25 km
- But you need to be fine with riding on busy (and not so busy) Tokyo streets.
Note, while tourists are welcome, this is not a guided tour, but a ride through Tokyo with friendly locals and a few foreign residents (depending on actual attendees this night).
