Philosophy Shop Online

Details

It is a philosophical cafe in English, and we are migrating online this time.

What does that mean?
It means that it is not a lecture about philosophy, and that I am not a teacher in philosophy. It is a moderated philosophical discussion.

Every time will bring in a new topic, and invites a core discussion of roughly 1 hour, followed by some reflexion time.

The maximum number of participants is 15 people, and it is in English.
(Important point: It is not an English class, and it is difficult for an English learner at a beginner level to participate. Please RSVP if you are comfortable expressing and developing a point of view in English)

Someone said about Philosophy that it is the art of creating problems where there isn't any.
Thus, this event aims to bring together people who want to discuss and reflect about unnecessary questions, that are of course the most important ones.

Practically speaking, how it works?
The conversation is a series of questions discussed by the group, some are prepared, most are not and follow the flow of the conversation.

It starts by either a short anecdote, or a picture, or a photo, or a short movie,... Or whatever that can invite a Start question.

We move then to whatever direction the group goes, to "investigate" the central theme and questions around it, more deeply.

The goal is not to come up with an answer. The outcome is to enjoy the process of reasoning, and confronting oneself to others views and beliefs, so there shouldn't be any expectation about any particular insight or answer, except your own.

Last point: it is important that the conversation is not interrupted, so passed 19:45 (when the core conversation starts), the meeting will be locked and nobody will be allowed to come in. Sorry!

Price: Free.
