2 Museums: Tobacco+Salt and Tobu Rail

Details

Museum #1 - Tobacco & Salt: You don't have to like tobacco or salt to enjoy the museum. The museum covers history, art and culture of tobacco and salt in Japan. 300 yen. We will spend about 1-1.5 hours here.

Trace the history of tobacco from Latin America and how smoking habits spread throughout the world including Japan. Learn how it changed from a private sector business to a governmental enterprise.

Learn how Japan developed its salt processing technology because of the lack of terrestrial salt deposits. See ukiyoe and examples of craftsman objects like pouches and tobacco trays. It didn’t cover anything about health from too much salt or smoking, however.

*It will take about 20-30 minutes by train and foot to get to the second museum.*

Museum #2 - Tobu Rail. I have never been here. It seems to have explanations only in Japanese and might be more for kids but it seems fun. 200 yen. Museum closes at 1630 so we will end the activity around this time.
