Almost 70 years since the Space Race, Earthlings are prepping up to go back to the Moon. American astronauts will once again be back on the Moon within a few years. But this time around, they won't be alone; Chinese, European, Indian, and Russian space agencies and private companies are aiming for our Moon too. Dr. Thilina Heenatigala will discuss the need for radical new ethics for space exploration, instead of treating Mars and the Moon as sites of conquest and settlement.

Thilina Heenatigala (Earth-Life Science Institute)

Thilina Heenatigala is an assistant professor at the Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) in Tokyo. His Ph.D is on astronomy and science communication. His current research is on standards for life detection discoveries and evaluation of research engagement at universities. He teaches science communication and astronomy for graduate students.
