"Fire and gas: What meteorites tell us about rocky planetary atmospheres"
In this talk, Nathan McGregor (UC Santa Cruz) will discuss how heating meteorite samples in the lab and analyzing the gases they release provide insights into the atmospheric compositions of rocky planets. By measuring meteorite outgassing under conditions relevant to planet formation, this innovative approach offers new insights into how the interiors of rocky planets connect to their atmospheres.
Speaker info:
Nathan McGregor is a Ph.D. student in Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California Santa Cruz, where he is completing his dissertation on the thermal evolution of rocky bodies under the supervision of Francis Nimmo and Myriam Telus.
