Enjoy✌︎('ω')✌︎🍁AUTUMN leaves @Kamakura No✌️
Kamakura, Kanagawa, JP🍃🍃Avoid the crowds and experience Kamakura in its truest form🍃🍃
🍁🍂The second part is about enjoying the season slowly🍁🍂🧘🏻♀️
It's the season when “Higan bana” bloom.
Also known as "Manjushage" (Higan bana) have a distinctive feature that sets them apart from other plants: "You see no leaves, you see no flowers." They bloom from late summer to autumn, and are at their best around the September equinox.
Around the autumn equinox, the flower stalks grow and bloom, with the flowers and stems withering within about a week. They then grow leaves through winter, store nutrients in the bulbs in spring, and enter a dormant period in summer, withering and the leaves withering.
In English, they are called "spider lily" or "magic lily," and one theory is that this comes from the fact that after eating this poisonous plant, the only place to go is the afterlife (death).
So,
I'd like to introduce the word "higan."
In Japan, people visit graves during the equinox and Obon seasons.
The meaning of higan is just one of many theories.
In Japan, the year is divided into four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Zassetu refers to special calendar days established to more accurately grasp the changing seasons. The vernal and autumnal equinoxes are seven days long, with three days before and three days after each of the midday periods (14 days in total). During this period, people give thanks to their ancestors and practice one of the six virtues necessary to reach enlightenment, one per day.
Ohigan is unique to Japan, and while it is often thought of as a time to visit graves and clean them, higan actually refers to a world free from the worldly desires that cause human confusion and suffering. It refers to the Pure Land, where one is freed from worldly desires and suffering and reaches a state of enlightenment.
To reach this "higan," one must undergo training. Higan is the period for such training. It is said that during the equinox period, even people who are not practicing Buddhism would offer prayers to the sun as it sets in the west, where paradise is located, in order to eliminate their worldly desires.
So why not try some zazen?
Although the equinox period has passed, why not take this time to think of your ancestors?

🧘🏻♀️Zazen (literally “seated mediation”) is a meditative discipline that practitioners perform to calm the body and the mind.
Practitioners attempt to concentrate enough to experience insight into the nature of existence and thereby gain enlightenment. Zazen helps generate the energy to be aware and awake to the present moment. It is the continuous practice of touching life deeply in every moment.
This is not something you work at a desk, but a practice available to you anywhere. So just feel it!
Kenchoji Temple offers this service free of charge on Saturdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.【Schedule】

Kamakura, Kanagawa, JP🥷⚔️The Mandalara Yagura are open for a limited time only‼️
🌿 Mandara Yagura Caves is a place where 150 graves of high-ranking people and samurai are concentrated in the largest mountain in the Kamakura and Zushi area.
It is located in "Nagoe Kiridoshi Pass", one of the seven cuts in Kamakura and a designated national historic site, and was the most important defense base for the Kamakura Hojo clan. Walking along the hiking trail, you can take your time to see "Mandara Yagura Caves", and enjoy the atmosphere of a time slip as you walk along the large hollow (Oohoto), the important bank that stretches 300 meters, the cut bank that made it difficult to attack, and the artificial cliff that prevented enemy invasion.
Then, climb Kinuhariyama (121m). It can see Mt. Fuji and the Miura Peninsula from the observation deck.About Kiridoshi…
Overview of the Seven Kiridoshi Passes in Kamakura.
Kamakura is surrounded by mountains on three sides, which is a very advantageous geography for defense. However, it was inconvenient to transport goods, so roads were made by cutting through the mountain ridges. These are called Kiridoshi. Kiridoshi were important not only for transportation but also for strategy as they were the entrances and exits to Kamakura, so the mansions of influential people were located in the surrounding areas. There are also flat areas called "Hiraba" built on the mountaintops and mountainsides, so try to find them👀
And Lunch time♪♪🤤🍙🌮
🌳When descending, we will descend through a forest that will give you a Ghibli feel.
🍵🍡After descending the mountain, it's about a 10-minute walk to Jomyoji Temple. If you'd like to sit on the tatami mats, order a matcha and sweets set and relax while gazing at the Japanese garden.⇧Nihongo🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️
I will take photos for you when you come alone, so I will show you good places that look good in photos.
