A day trip to Put-in-Bay

Let's take a day trip to the Village of Put-in-Bay (PIB) on South Bass Island. We'll take the 10:15 a.m. Jet Express from Port Clinton to the island. Once there, we'll rent a golf cart for the day which will allow us to explore the island comfortably. There are parks and museums, water activities, restaurants, shops, a winery, caves, a maize, putt-putt, and more.

Depending on what the group decides, we could head to DeRivera Park in the afternoon for the 4:00 Village Flag Raising ceremony marking the commencement of the Pyrate Fest. Immediately prior to the flag raising, we will change into our pirate clothes. The Pyrate Pub Crawl follows the flag raising. Last year, the pub crawl cost $40 for 6 island inspired drinks (ummm! we have a long drive back home), a T-shirt, and the opportunity to mingle with the Pirates. The details for this year have not been published yet.

Or we can choose our own bars, do some shopping, and have a nice dinner at a restaurant, hopefully one with great music. Many of the bars and restaurants have live music.

There is a limit of 6 members for this event, including myself. That number
is non-negotiable.

Costs: The Jet Express parking lot in Port Clinton charges $18 for each car. For those of us who hope to carpool, that $18 will be divided equally among us. The Jet Express costs $42.33 roundtrip and, if only 4 people go, Jet Express offers a price of $250.16 for a golf cart and 4 round trip tickets. Divided equally and assuming my math is correct, that's $66 per person.

A 6 person cart for the day (until 7:00 p.m.) costs $110.00. Divided equally among 6 people is $19 each. Add in the $43.00 round trip ticket and $6 each for parking 2 cars for a total of $68.

Other expenses include the costs of the activities we select, if any, our meals out, and gas reimbursement to any carpool driver. We can pack our lunches to save money if need be.

Let's join in the spirit of the weekend and bring a pirate costume to wear for the Pyrate fest. If you really hate dressing up, a bandana and a dangling earring will work.
