Civil war in America
“I believe that nonviolence is infinitely superior to violence, but I do believe that where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence. I can only teach you not to bow your head before anyone even at the cost of your own life." Gandhi

This discussion begins from an uncomfortable reality: while violence is profoundly undesirable, history suggests there are moments when democratic norms collapse under authoritarian pressure and nonviolence alone no longer restrains a fascist/authoritarian worldview committed to domination rather than coexistence. We will examine the ethical limits of non-violent restraint, and the grave question of whether resistance can remain purely moral when confronted with organized violence. The aim is not to advocate for the possibility of violent response, but to interrogate whether refusing to confront force can, in some moments, enable, collude and amplify its outcomes.
Let’s talk about it.
