🧠✨ PIT Group Intro Meetup
This is a **first intro meetup online** to say hello, get a feel for the group, and have a light discussion around a short pop-psychology article.
This is meant to be **easy, welcoming, and exploratory** — no prep beyond reading the article (if you can), and no pressure to speak more than you want to.
### 📰 What We’ll Read (Optional but Encouraged)
We’ll loosely anchor our conversation around this Psychology Today article:
**“Pop Pathology: The Modern Obsession With Diagnosis”**
👉 [https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/blog/love-them-or-leave-them/202510/pop-pathology-the-modern-obsession-with-diagnosis](https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/blog/love-them-or-leave-them/202510/pop-pathology-the-modern-obsession-with-diagnosis?utm_source=chatgpt.com)
The article looks at how clinical language and diagnostic labels have entered everyday culture — especially through social media — and what we might gain *and* lose when we rely on “therapy speak” to explain human behaviour.
### 💬 What We Might Talk About
I’ll bring a few guiding questions, but this won’t be rigid or academic. Sample questions include:
**Big-Picture / Culture**
* Where do you notice “therapy speak” or diagnostic labels showing up most in pop culture or social media?
* Why do you think this language has become so widespread right now?
### 🧘🏽♀️ Format & Logistics
* **Online intro meetup (Zoom link shared closer to the date)**
* **Approx. 45 minutes**
* Come as you are
* This is a **low-commitment, first-touch gathering**
### ✅ How to RSVP
RSVP “Yes” if you’re interested.
I’ll send the Zoom link and any final details closer to the date.
Looking forward to meeting you and seeing what emerges 🌱

What is Right? Meet at a Bar
All meetups of the "What is Right?" group are intended, as the name implies, to be exploratory sessions in which participants might freely exchange views, contest and debate positions and, it is hoped, might demonstrate for one another what a principled conservative position ought to be. Among the various traits that a conservative thinker should have is a desire to preserve what our civilization got right, and to make innovations only with an abundance of caution and humility.
In order to get to the Bishop and the Belcher Pub, note that despite its Bloor Street address, it is actually located one block south of Bloor at the intersection of Church St. and Hayden St.
Mazzoleni Hall: New Worlds: Music of Golijov (21C Festival) $21 tickets
“**MAKING TORONTO A MORE MUSICALLY INTERESTING CITY.**” - *TORONTO STAR*
“**INNOVATIVE COMPOSERS MAKING NEW WORKS ARE THE STARS**.” - *NOW*
This is the 13th year for the **21C Festival**. What better time to devour *new and innovative music* than in the depths of a Toronto winter!
**All tickets are $21**--at the link below. Choose your own seat.
Associate dean of The Glenn Gould School and Director of The Taylor Academy, **Barry Shiffman leads a concert of works by celebrated Argentine-American composer Osvaldo Golijov**, “a musical alchemist (who) conjures up new worlds” (*The New York Times*). Among other works, the program includes *Tintype*, a new work co-commissioned by the RCM for viola and string quintet.

Brunch Club: Make New Friends
⚠️ **IMPORTANT: You must sign up and buy a ticket here to attend:**
[https://groupvibe.com/](https://groupvibe.com/)
**Join the Toronto City Brunch Club and make new friends!**
Each meetup brings together 4–6 people for casual conversations over brunch. We use the Groupvibe platform to facilitate the meetup and ensure everyone’s a good fit.
👉 **To attend, you’ll need to complete registration via this link:**
[https://groupvibe.com/](https://groupvibe.com/)
We’ll share the exact location of the upcoming meetup the night before only if you have bought a ticket or membership plan.
**Why this works:**
\* Smaller groups make real conversations easier.
\* Discover new restaurants in your city, together.
\* Curated lunch venues with good food and vibe.
\* If you hit it off with your group, there’s plenty of time to hang out afterwards.
**Note:**
RSVPs on Meetup don’t reflect total attendance. Many attendees register directly via our website. The event on [Meetup.com](http://meetup.com/) is only a placeholder.
This meetup is organized by Groupvibe, a small team passionate about helping people form meaningful friendships offline.
Local Social Host Sign-Up: Lunches, Drinks & Curated Experiences
**Want to help bring your city’s community together?**
We’re looking for local hosts to organize small group lunches, evening drinks, mixers, movie get-togethers and curated experiences.
**No experience necessary,** just a friendly attitude, some local knowledge, and a willingness to meet a few new people. After each event, we’ll send a short feedback form so we can improve and support you. The host will also be able to provide feedback so we can learn what worked and what didn't.
**[Click here](https://form.questionscout.com/6926c9ab87a828a5c11a79fc)** to apply and get started: if you’re selected, we’ll reach out for a quick screening call.

O Pioneers! by Willa Cather
For January, we'll read O Pioneers! by Willa Cather
224 pages
First published in 1913
About the book:
*O Pioneers!* (1913) was Willa Cather's first great novel, and to many it remains her unchallenged masterpiece. No other work of fiction so faithfully conveys both the sharp physical realities and the mythic sweep of the transformation of the American frontier—and the transformation of the people who settled it. Cather's heroine is Alexandra Bergson, who arrives on the wind-blasted prairie of Hanover, Nebraska, as a girl and grows up to make it a prosperous farm. But this archetypal success story is darkened by loss, and Alexandra's devotion to the land may come at the cost of love itself.
At once a sophisticated pastoral and a prototype for later feminist novels, *O Pioneers!* is a work in which triumph is inextricably enmeshed with tragedy, a story of people who do not claim a land so much as they submit to it and, in the process, become greater than they were.
