Hi Guys, With Anzac Day on April 25, lets watch the Anzac Day march/parade and then later have lunch at the food court at South Gate afterword. For those who have not been, the ANZAC Day march is a really special event. For those who wish to watch the march/parade, we will meet at 10am at the Floral Clock (see map pin and image below). Look for the really tall guy – that’s me. (I'll most likely be wearing a blue Australia hat). At around 10:15, we will find a spot to watch the parade for about an hour/hour and a half. We won't be too far from the Floral Clock. At around 12pm or so (maybe 12:30pm), we will head over to the South Gate food court. For anyone who just wants to come to the lunch after, we will arrive at the South Gate Food Court at around 11:45am or 12pm. Should be all finished by around 1:45pm. Notes: **(1) Please Bring Suitable clothes** depending on the weather forecast (coat/umbrella/hat etc.) **(2) Allow extra time for arriving there**. Parking can be difficult. Public transport can be easiest option but remember there are no trams running down St Kilda Road because of the parade. Also, if you are on the opposite side of St Kilda Road to the meeting point, it may take time to cross because of the parade (usually, they don't allow you to cross the road while the parade is on, but sometimes they do). **(3) Call or text me** on 0437 595 848 if you are having trouble finding us. (4) During our lunch, we will have a short discussion with the topic 'What does ANZAC Day mean to you? What do you think of sacrifice and service?'

In-person meetups are back for the *Maroondah & Yarra Ranges Atheists*; the *Melbourne Eastern Hills Skeptics* and the *Knox Atheists*. To start with, we are gathering together as the *Outer Eastern Suburbs Melbourne Atheists* and meeting in Mooroolbark. The location will also be convenient to some in Manningham and Whitehorse and a bit further away is Monash and Nillumbik. It is very close to the Mooroolbark railway station therefore the meetups are easily accessible by trains from the city. We meet every second and fourth Thursdays. **We will be socializing with activism for those who want it.** **Sometimes we will have a special guest to speak.** For those who can't make it for lunch, we can organise evening and weekend events if you tell me (Andrew Rawlings) what you want, where and when. A day snow trip is being planned for next winter, During the year we will also join in some Melbourne-wide events like the Progressive Atheists Anniversary Lunch (January), Charles Darwin Day BBQ (February), Atheist Day and Nowruz BBQ (March), Yalda/Sumner Solstice/ChristMyth BBQ (December) and other ad hoc events. Excited to announce our new ADVANCED openplay session during the week at KCARC! Welcome to Melbourne Volleyball Academy. 🤗 **[[WHAT]]** This session is specifically for games only (no training). There will be a cap of 18 players, allowing for 3 teams of 6. Games will be played to 15 points, with a cap at 18 points. These games are intended to be played at a high-intermediate(BB)/advanced(A) level. Players should be able to: * Have strong fundamentals for all volleyball techniques * Serve receive a majority of serves well & serve over the net consistently * Basic understanding of 5-1, and 6-2 systems (we do not play a pass middle 4-2 system in this session) * Have an understanding of base defense * Know all/most volleyball rules Players that are not of the intermediate(BB)/advanced(A) level will be asked to leave as we want to ensure that all players have an enjoyable time playing. **[[HOW MUCH $$]]** $21 card payment will be processed on the day via square reader (EFTPOS). **[[WHEN]]** The stadium is booked from 6:30 PM-9:30 PM weekly, every Thursday. However, feel free to come early and stretch as the Community Centre is open earlier. Last minute dropouts and no shows will have a zero-tolerance policy going forward. All players are expected to update their RSVP at least 24 hours in advanced if they are unable to attend. This applies to players on the going list and the waitlist. **[[OTHER DETAILS]]** Only those on the “going” list are permitted to play. If you are on the waitlist, or not registered at all, you will not be permitted into the gymnasium.

Welcome to Melbourne Volleyball Academy! 🤗 **[[WHAT]]** This session will be broken into 2 halves, 1st half is training and the 2nd half is games. Please arrive on time as we will start exactly at 6:30 PM. Our intention is to have this training be the 'next step' after our beginner-level training at North Melbourne Community Centre. We will be focusing on learning what specific roles on the court entail, improving 'volleyball IQ', breaking bad habits, and building better techniques. **[[WHERE]]** The session will be held as Pascoe Vale Girls College. Please enter via Cornwall Road through the back gates as other entrances onto the campus will be closed **[[WHO]]** The training is intended for social volleyball players at the intermediate level or 'B' level (for more details on volleyball levels, please visit our site here: https://melbournevolleyballacademy.com.au/skill-levels-explained). Players are expected to: * have strong fundamentals * pass freeballs and serve receive consistently * understand 4-2 system (pass middle rotation) * have some knowledge of 5-1 (1 setter all around) or 6-2 (back row setter only) systems * understand 'base defense' * help others and have good sportsmanship If you are a high intermediate (BB) or advanced player (A) you are more than welcome to join but you may find our open play sessions for BB/A level players more suitable. For players that are at the beginner level, we suggest attending our training on Fridays at North Melbourne Community Centre 6-9PM as beginners may find the drills and level of play too difficult. Players will be asked to attend a different session if their play is deemed unsafe or if they are not of the appropriate skill level. **[[HOW MUCH]]** $21 card payment will be collected on the day via square (EFTPOS) payment. **[[WHEN]]** The stadium is booked for 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM. Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process. Fast track • Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell). • Show up and try it out. • Complete application, etc. later. Normal process • Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/). • Attend orientation in advance. • At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility. • Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM. • Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895). The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014. Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
