Cosy Cave Conversations // 10ème // Café philo in English
Cosy Cave Conversations // 10ème // Café philo in English
**Step into the laid-back charm of Cosy Cave Conversations**, a Parisian philosophy chat that's more relaxed than a cat in a sunbeam 🐈 🌞 Gather with a bunch of easygoing souls, share thoughts on the good life and its mysteries, enjoy a beverage, and have a good laugh. A few things to be aware of: * **Please** **don't show up without a spot** (we aim to keep it cosy and we always have a waiting list these days — check if you’re on the list or the waiting list) * If it's your first event, it's essential you **turn up early, or at the latest on time (<7pm)** so you understand how it works, what the topic is and don't interrupt the session * The **session runs from 7pm to 8:30pm** where we focus on the discussion, but don't worry, you'll have a chance to socialise, introduce yourselves and continue the chat after the session. **If you’re running late** (the curtains are closed), that’s okay, but please wait to join us in the break rather than interrupting the session. * Please read the **tips below** for a good session before coming along **How does it work?** We embrace the café-philo method — proposing intriguing topics on the night (up to 3), choosing one together, and diving into everything from consciousness, community, death and god, while managing to keep it light and easy 🦦 **Forget the stiff atmosphere**, we're all about small groups (\~10 people) and unpretentious chats with no homework required. No need for a philosophy degree, just bring your open mind and a dash of curiosity. **Join us every Wednesday 19h-20h30 at Les Acolytes** — because pondering the profound is better with good company (and a pint). See you there! 🎉 A few tips for a great session: * come with an **open and curious mind** 🧠 * **prioritise listening to others and asking questions** without interrupting or long monologues 👂 * we put a strong **emphasise on giving everyone a chance to contribute to the discussion**, so try and be aware of how much space and time you take up when speaking 🐻‍❄️ * we prioritise **intellectual accessibility**: this is not an academic group therefore we ask to keep any philosophy jargon to a minimum and instead explain any concepts in plain english 🤠 * we are an **apolitical group** that focuses on discussing and exploring philosophical ideas without endorsing or aligning with any specific political or religous ideologies. Our aim is to encourage open, unbiased dialogue centered on philosophical inquiry within a safe and respectful environment 🐥

Hello everyone! GR1: Stage 7 — **Pontoise to L’Isle-Adam (24 km)** This stage of the GR1 offers us a transition from the **urban-historic** edges of **Pontoise** to the "River Park" atmosphere of **L’Isle-Adam**. The **GR1 Project** is an opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the Île-de-France region, all within easy reach of Paris. Spanning a total of 550 km, this circular trail takes you around the city in a clockwise direction, offering a unique way to discover the peaceful landscapes, charming forests, and picturesque villages surrounding Paris. !!! 7 Mile Brooklyn Bridge Hike
7 Mile Brooklyn Bridge Hike
We'll be starting from Herald Square, zig-zagging down Manhattan through Madison Square Park, Union Square, St. Marks Place, Astor Place, Washington Square Park, Bleecker Street, Little Italy, and Chinatown, then across the Brooklyn Bridge, then down the Brooklyn Promenade. After directing everybody where to go to get the R/2/3/4/5 trains home, those interested will stop for dinner at a diner that does separate checks and takes credit cards. We should be reaching the restaurant around 5:15 pm. The hike will be during Daylight Savings, so the sun will set about an hour after we get to the restaurant. We should be reaching the restaurant at about 5:15pm, 31 minutes before sunset. There are no vaccine or mask mandates, neither to attend the hike nor to attend dinner at the end. Many years ago, this meetup would do Brooklyn Bridge hikes. This hike will begin at a different place than those hikes and be about a mile longer. We'll be starting in Herald Square, just north of the Broadway entrance to Macy's, near the entrance and roughly halfway between 34th & 35th Streets. There are restrooms available at Macy's in the basement -- the women's room is in the northeast corner, and the men's room is in the middle of the southern edge of the basement. Make sure you use the bathroom, because after that, the next bathroom won't be until Washington Square Park. Attendance on this hike is free, and all participants attend at their own risk. By attending, you consent to the terms of the release waiver. In it, you basically give up any right whatsoever to sue, to the fullest extent possible by law. You can read the waiver here: **[http://bluejacket7.com/legal/WalkingWaiver.doc](http://bluejacket7.com/legal/WalkingWaiver.doc)**
Randall's Island Waterfront Loop Walk - New Members Welcome!
Randall's Island Waterfront Loop Walk - New Members Welcome!
New to the Appalachian Mountain Club? Looking to connect with other folks who love getting outdoors? Come meet new AMC friends on a walk around Randalls Island! Explore the beauty of the city by walking a circuit around Randalls and Wards Islands. Enjoy the river views, bridge views, and extraordinary Manhattan and Queens skylines. My favorite experience is walking across the Salt Marshes and under the Hell Gate Bridge . We'll walk at a leisurely pace on paved terrain for about 5 miles with little elevation gain, stopping at points of interest. Wear comfortable walking shoes and warm clothes in case a cold wind blows across the water. If you are new to the AMC, this is a great starter event! New and existing members, as well as prospective members are welcome!! Meet at 11:00am at the Randalls Island side of the 103rd Street pedestrian bridge. If you're coming from Manhattan, you're welcome to join the leaders at 10:30am on the Manhattan side of the 103rd Street bridge (and and Bobby Wagner Walk). Randalls Island can also be reached by pedestrian walkways along the RFK Bridge crossings, as well as the M60 SBS and M35 buses from Harlem. Register for this event at [activities.outdoors.org](https://activities.outdoors.org/s/oc-activity/a5UVX0000011IS92AM/act00019054). Lower East Side art galleries and more
Lower East Side art galleries and more
The Lower East Side, along with Tribeca, has the most galleries of any Neighborhood in manhattan. Last time we visited, it was a wild frontier for young, experimental and often edgy artists. Let's see whether the art scene has mellowed or if it's still a cauldron for the untamed and unexpected. We'll visit my favorite exhibitions, sample the rich history of the immigrants that flooded this neighborhood in the early twentieth century, and see the many creative changes that are now transforming the LES. POSSIBLE LATE LUNCH: After the 2 hour tour, we will walk to nearby Chinatown for Cantonese food if enough people are interested. COST: $1 (CASH ONLY) plus whatever you pay for lunch
RESCHEDULED- HEADING South Along the Hudson River Greenway With INDOOR STOPS !
RESCHEDULED- HEADING South Along the Hudson River Greenway With INDOOR STOPS !
WE ARE AGAIN RESCHEDULING THIS EVENT TO FEBRUARY 28. We start right near Penn Station. DO NOT CLICK ON THE RSVP BUTTON UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT (And any comments posted) VERY CAREFULLY ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE NEVER ATTENDED AN EVENT BEFORE. I like to think all the events we do are fun and interesting. This is a Members Appreciation Event. I want to initially reward those members who have supported this group -especially those in the past 12 months. NO GUESTS unless you have attended events before with this group. We are looking to add a number of First Timers to this event. However, you actually need to read the description of the event carefully or you are wasting your time and mine. We are not asking for that much. This group has lots of rules in order to prevent the spread of anarchy within Meetup! We will make this fun and interesting. IF YOU HAVE NEVER ATTENDED AN EVENT WITH THIS GROUP, I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP AND COOPERATION. WE ARE REQUIRING THAT YOU SEND ME AN E-MAIL TO [[bsb2@att.net](mailto:bsb2@att.net)] AS SOON AS YOU RSVP, WHETHER YOU ARE ON THE GOING LIST OR ON A WAIT LIST, AND PUT YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS IN THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE TO ME. THIS WILL HELP ME COMMUNICATE MORE EFFECTIVELY WITH THOSE WHO RSVP. SOMETIMES MEETUP MESSAGES DO NOT GET DELIVERED OR ARE NOT READ FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS. IF YOU CAN'T ABIDE BY THIS SIMPLE REQUEST, YOU ARE GOING TO END UP ON THE NOT GOING LIST. If you think this request is just too much for you to bear, please let me know. Again, NO GUESTS UNLESS YOU HAVE ATTENDED AN EVENT BEORE WITH THIS GROUP. One way to deal with this if you are new to the group is to have your potential guest join the group just as you did. And tell them to take their RSVP seriously. I won't accept any money on this event even if you try to force your cash on me! The wait list for this group does NOT operate in a conventional way. Those on the wait list will NOT be moved to the going list automatically. I do NOT believe that the Meetup waitlist works well for a number of reasons. IF APPLICABLE, ALWAYS JOIN THE WAIT LIST WITH LOW PRIORITY WHICH IS FREE. IF THERE IS A WAITLIST, IT APPEARS MEETUP WILL ASK YOU IF YOU WANT TO JOIN MEETUP + BUT IN SMALLER LETTERS AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE YOU CAN CLICK CONTINUE WITH THE FREE PLAN. There is NEVER a need to pay extra to use Meetup's High Priority wait list classification for this group. MEETING DETAILS WILL BE SENT BY MEETUP MESSAGE TO THOSE WHO RSVP NO LATER THAN THE EVENING BEFORE THE HIKE. Join us on a fun fast paced approximately 5 mile hike starting near Penn Station and heading south. Much of the event will be along the Hudson River but there will be a few brief indoor stops along the way. This will be a hike and I will provide much less commentary than usual. But I will still be funny! We will meet BEFORE 10:20 A.M. Be ready to go. WE LEAVE ON TIME. BRING SNACKS AND WATER. THERE WILL BE NO FOOD STOPS. IF THIS PRESENTS A HARDSHIP TO YOU TRY TO DEAL WITH IT. DON'T BE A BABY! IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, ON YOUR DESKTOP, PLEASE CLICK ON YOUR PROFILE (it's in the upper right of the Home Page), THEN SETTINGS ,THEN E-MAIL UPDATES AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN RECEIVE E-MAILS THRU MEETUP. THAT'S THE WAY YOU WILL LEARN WHERE THE MEETING PLACE IS. ALSO PLEASE CHECK THIS SITE RIGHT UP TO THE DAY OF THE EVENT TO SEE IF I HAVE POSTED ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THE EVENT-I LIKE TO THINK THOSE COMMENTS ARE IMPORTANT! ALSO PERIODICALLY CHECK YOUR MESSAGES LINK ON THE TOP RIGHT OF THE WEBSITE. YOU CAN CHOOSE WHICH MEETUP GROUPS YOU WANT TO RECEIVE MESSAGES FROM. I am going to ask that people not post any comments or questions prior to the event. You have more than enough information to do this once you get the meeting details. No offense, but I don’t need to know-and probably neither does anyone else- what you are doing that day if you can’t make it or what you think the weather will be. You may even think you somehow have some deep insights into something or other. Please keep that deepness to yourself. AFTER the event, post as many comments and photos as you like. PLEASE RESPECT MY WISHES ON THIS. If the weather forecast is really bad, I will post a notice on the day of the hike by 7:00 A.M. If there is no notice, we go.
