Photography workshop with Aurora
Photography workshop with Aurora
Check the end for terms and conditions, by booking you are agreeing to them. **What to expect for first-timers:** by now I have organised over 1000 photography workshops and you can see my work [here](https://vosa.photography/). My approach is allowing one-on-one time with the model in a small group with a laissez-faire style, not intruding on the creative process or micromanaging. I want to be helpful without choking your creativity. People with different experience levels mix in the group, so I will ask how I can help, where you are at in your photography and if there is anything you wish to improve or if there is anything you like to try. Perhaps you just want to get your camera out, get confidence, practice and shoot, and that's fine too! If you want to test or learn something, I will help you; if you need advice, I will help you too, and if you just want to shoot and have a good time, that's great too! We meet outside Bank Station infront of the Royal Exchange big stairs. Save on booking fees and get one on one tuition on our website at: [https://vosaphotographyworkshops.com/event/photography-workshop-with-aurora/](https://vosaphotographyworkshops.com/event/photography-workshop-with-aurora/) We are booked with Aurora We will assist each other, making it a great day to try and test. I will bring flash/reflector that you can use. Suitable for beginners and experienced photographers. Shoot for practice, fun or your portfolio. Any advice or help that you need please just ask on the day, I can set you up shooting in manual in no time. You can also use our flash and I can help you setting it up, even if it is your first time. Reflectors will also be at hand. We will shoot in a small group of max 4 in turns and helping each other. Film cameras and video recording are welcome. You can check what we have been up to lately on our Instagram [@shooting_with_models.](https://www.instagram.com/shooting_with_models/?hl=en) Looking forward to it! The booked model could be changed if the original model could not attend for any reason. The stated number of attendeed is a target rarely missed, most often could be lower if bookings are low or in rare occassions higher due to the different booking platforms not synchonising, arrangements will be made if it is deemend by the organiser to significantly impact the smooth running of the workshop. **Usage**: as the photographer you have the copyright, models sign a model release form that allows the photographers in the workshop to use the photos for personal, portfolio, social media, art, competitions, magazines... **Not allowed usage** : stock photography, associated with third party brands, demeaning and deep fake including adult content. The seals in Norfolk are truly one of Britain's most special sights. Without any doubt, they're an incredible WOW factor and one that you must see! On our way, we'll pass the much-loved grey seal colony at Horsey Beach, which draws thousands of visitors each year, **particularly between November and March**, when the seals come ashore to breed. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of seals and their pups stretching for as far as the eye can see! The whole walk is in the Broads National Park – one of fifteen national parks in the UK. With over 125 miles of lock-free waterways, the Norfolk Broads have more miles of waterway than Venice or Amsterdam, and are an extremely popular boating holiday destination! Locals like to call the Broads “the Venice of the East”. 💪 This walk is **suitable for all abilities** – it is almost entirely flat and done at a very gentle pace to allow us enjoy the nature and take plenty of pictures. **HIKE HIGHLIGHTS** * Watch seals and their young from a close distance at Horsey Gap, home to one of the biggest colonies of grey seals in Britain. * Take a gentle stroll over the vast open expanse of the golden sand dunes of Winterton Beach – a Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. It was built in 1912 to pump water out from the surrounding land so that it could be used for farming. * Discover Horsey Mere, often regarded as one of the most beautiful of the northern broads and famous for its internationally important wildlife. * Walk the newly opened stretch of the England Coast Path – a new National Trail around all of England's coast, which once completed will be the longest coastal walking route in the world (4,500 kilometres in length!). **DISTANCE & DIFFICULTY** Distance: 6 miles (10km). JON's40th BIRTHDAY HIKE: Nutbourne to Bosham : New hike alert!
JON's40th BIRTHDAY HIKE: Nutbourne to Bosham : New hike alert!
Psssssst, the secret is out! The event of the year! Mama Jon is turning 40! WHAAAAAAT?! I know, I know, I look like I am late 20th at most, what can I say? Some people are just pretty :) So what else can I do to celebrate my birthday? Well, a new wintry hike of course, in the company of my favourite humans, the Jonions. You do not need to know me to join, so come and have fun with us! I first discovered this hike by accident, I was on a trip to a nearby semi-island that had been closed due to a collapsed bridge, well luckily for us, I decided to check out this new place and what a delight it was! So pretty that I have decided to finally put it up for my lovely Jonions to discover... The hike isn't difficult, it is Sunday after all so I have chosen hill free and by the sea. We will walk about 10 miles in and around the Chichester Harbour Estuary surrounded by water, trees and pretty villages in this area of natural outstanding beauty. The village of Bosham is particularly beautiful and we will have quite some views of it from across the estuary, that place is a hidden treasure that has kept its middle ages vibe. Once an important place, history remembers it in the famous Bayeux tapestry. [Bosham - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosham) Most of the hike will be along the estuary and should offer some gorgeous view of Britain's most important natural harbour and is part of the famous Solent Way in West Sussex. Evidently afterwards, we are likely to make our way to a restaurant or pub for some tasty food before we head back to good old London. We can celebrate my birthday together or you can just hop back on the train earlier if you are too tired but this hike will not be exhausting, you will burn some calories without too much efforts. INFORMATION: COST: £17 via PayPal for the guide's fee About £28 in cash for the train, we will have a 35% discount with a group saver if we buy our train tickets together and will get an off peak day return meaning that we do not actually pay for the return journey. INCLUDED: Guided trip The photographs that I will have taken on the day and that I will share on the WhatsApp group. A great time with lovely people NOT INCLUDED: Train Anything not mentioned above WHAT TO BRING: Waterproof shoes for the hike, preferably hiking shoes, otherwise good trainers; Weather appropriate clothes, including waterproofs if there is a chance of rain; Water bottle; Packed lunch and snacks. MEETING POINT: London Waterloo at 08:30 am, just by the clock in the main hall of the train station, NOT the tube station. ATTENTION: Our trips will not be cancelled due to weather conditions so please ensure that you do wear and carry appropriate clothing. 😄 POLICIES: 1: This group is designed for the pleasure and enjoyment of all of us, we do not accept any derogatory comments or behaviours towards anyone. Racism, discrimination and other unacceptable behaviours will only lead to your rejection to any of our trips and this without exception. By signing up to my events, you agree to this and these conditions.
The Castle climbing wall, "Storm the breach" Sunday mornings!
The Castle climbing wall, "Storm the breach" Sunday mornings!
**About** THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER has about 135 roped/auto-belays numbered routes with each route having up to 6 grades giving it approx 700 routes in total. THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER offers bouldering, top-roping, leading and auto-belays at their center. Some of us prefer bouldering while others will be in the top roping, leading or auto-belaying - this is up to you! We climb for a couple of hours and then the group regroups at 12.00 noon sometimes without me other times with me in The Brownswood pub, 271 Green Lanes, Finsbury Park, London N4 2EX for a spot of lunch and a libation. (https://goo.gl/maps/S4FZ9j1AYMPDs7uQ6) a stone's throw from the castle. **Meetups** We get together every Thursday & Sunday at THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER meeting at 9:00am in the warming up area or else look out for someone wearing a black RAMS t-shirt around the center. If you're joining for the first time let us know via message and we will keep an eye out for you at the start :) **New Climbers!** Unfortunately, if you haven't climbed before it isn't as easy as just turning up and climbing up the wall. To climb safely you need to understand the hazards and be able to use the equipment correctly. You must have basic climbing skills and know how to put on a harness, attach a rope to a harness using a rethreaded figure of eight(figure of eight on the bight) and know how to use a belay device to pay out the rope and secure a falling climber etc. So before your first climb, you may be required by the climbing center to fill out health and safety forms. This may involve a quick test on climbing rules at the counter on arrival. Please add an extra 10/15 minutes before your session if you need to register for the first time. THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER terms and conditions will apply. Please also note signing up for the Meetup session won’t necessarily grant you access to the center. **Other communication** Within these groups, you are possibly likely to develop long-lasting friendships. Don't forget we have a Discord page and WhatsApp https://chat.whatsapp.com/JNJ81oLSKB2JGaNm79em0C. The group will always be very varied when it comes to climbing levels, abilities and modality preferences. Do shout out if you have any questions. If you want to have a chat about this or other meetups, or just to keep in touch, ask to join us on Discord and/or WhatsApp. We have a dedicated THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER chat, but also talk about all things climbing (and some non-climbing!) including trips, gear talks and looking for climbing partner/s situations. **You’ll Rock it** A word of warning this sport is very, very addictive once bitten your its mistress for life. The simple challenge of you against the rock is sublime, there are competitions but then really the only real competition is 'you and the rock'. As climbing can be a very social activity we look forward to sharing our passion with yours. *Happy climbing!* p.s. Eventually, we will be starting and incorporating our climbing academy where we aim to bring skills, ropework and technique etc to enhance your climbing ability, using 25mm chalk bag colored belts to indicate your level. Naturally, THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER will also run courses to help improve your techniques too. Contact THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER for more info.

As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader". Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen. Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-) By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer. Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered. As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave. Any questions, feel free to ask below or send a private message!
Climbing Session for Mental Health
Climbing Session for Mental Health
**Start climbing into a positive space.** We are back on Sunday 8th February for our London peer-to-peer support session. Facilitated by our lovely volunteers, we will be meeting in the cafe area of Rise Climbing by 12.30pm. Sessions are 2 hours long and are open to everyone, whether you climb often or would like to try for the first time. Follow [this link](https://circularclimbingcollective.co.uk/booking/) and scroll down to our London sessions to book a space! **What is Circular Climbing Collective?** CCC is a climbing collective that focuses on mental health peer support. Our aim is to create non-judgemental spaces where climbers and non-climbers can connect, share and listen to better understand their mental health. **What to expect** Our sessions are led by 2 volunteer facilitators, Noa and Josh, and capped at 8 attendees. We ask everyone to attend the session from start to finish, 12:30pm - 2:30pm. We start our sessions with a warm-up for the mind and for the body, where we introduce the space, our guidelines and ourselves. We then head out into the gym to climb, wander and talk. We have no expectations of participants to climb or share, just to be present with one another. Some weeks are packed with conversation but maybe lack time on the wall or vice versa. Finally, we finish up with a warm down - stretching and checking in with ourselves and each other. We sometimes use this time to practice gratitude or reflect on our paths ahead. **Who can attend** Our sessions are open to anyone aged 18+, no matter where you are on your journey with mental health or how much climbing experience you have. Whether you've simply never climbed before and are looking to meet new people in an inclusive space, or are struggling with self-esteem, grief, loneliness, unemployment or anything else, you are welcome at Circular Climbing Collective. **Booking** To book a slot, follow [this link](https://circularclimbingcollective.co.uk/booking/) and scroll down to our London sessions. The price is just the same as a usual climb at Rise, with pre-paid members being free. The price includes free shoe hire! We also offer two fully funded entries at every session, these are trust based and open to all. We are still working out this system, so for now please contact the Rise team to access a free slot! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at [circularclimbingcollective@gmail.com](mailto:circularclimbingcollective@gmail.com) or DM us on instagram, [@circularclimbingcollective](https://www.instagram.com/circularclimbingcollective/) All questions and requests welcome. We would love to support with any adjustments to ensure our sessions are inclusive for you. Love, Team CCC ⭕

February Long Run - Hampstead Heath
February Long Run - Hampstead Heath
This month we will be exploring the green spaces of North London taking in the Parkland Walk, Ally Pally, Highgate Woods and Hampstead Heath. The full route will be approximately 21km along a mixture of paved, gravel and dirt paths. There will be some elevation to reach the viewpoints at Ally Pally and Parliament Hill. We will set off from outside Gails next to the City North / Goodwin Street exit of Finsbury Park station at 10:00am. We will all run together, adjusting the pace to suit the group aiming for somewhere between 5:30 and 6:00/km. After the run we will go for food and drink at a pub in Kentish Town. Please make sure you are comfortable with the distance and terrain as described above. We would recommend you try our shorter runs on Wednesday evenings or Saturday mornings, especially if you are relatively new to running. There will be no bag drop, so please bring everything you need in a small backpack including water and snacks. Please keep checking back for up to date details on this run and update your RSVP if you are no longer able to attend. We look forward to seeing you there! Rabble - Fitness Through Games!
Rabble - Fitness Through Games!
A Rabble session is 1 hour of fun and social team games. Each game disguises high-intensity intervals within the rules, giving you an effective, all-body workout without even realising it. We play a bunch of different games at each session (like British Bulldog, Capture the Flag, Dodgeball, Frisbee and many more), and every class is different. Sessions are open to all, no matter your sporting ability. Each game is explained before we start, so there's no need to have played any of the games before. Come solo or bring friends! And stay at the end for the social part! Who knew getting fit could be this fun? **TO BOOK**: It's essential that you book onto sessions via our website, using the link below; due to restrictions on games and preparation times we cannot accept walk-ins, or late arrivals. [https://joinrabble.com/locations/london/](https://joinrabble.com/locations/london/) Use the code **FREEPLAY** to get your first game free! *** We play every: * Monday in Finsbury Park (19:00 - 20:00) * Tuesday in Shoreditch (19:00 - 20:00) * Wednesdays in Elephant & Castle (19:00-20:00) * Saturday in Southwark Park (10:30 - 11:30) * Saturday in Finsbury Park (11:00 - 12:00) * Sunday in Clapham Common - Exact Location is here : https://what3words.com/drums.yards.early We hope to see you playing soon! PS. We've got a group of dedicated regulars, so numbers are often much higher than Meetup might suggest. Philosophy of Friendship: What are the bases of "friendship"?
Philosophy of Friendship: What are the bases of "friendship"?
As you may or may not know--I didn't until late last year--Aristotle wrote extensively on "friendship" in the Nicomachean Ethics. After 69 years the concept of friendship still creates questions and uncertainty. I had close friends in high school and for a few years after high school but our interests diverged and people moved all over the country so it was hard to maintain connections. * So if I/you haven't talked with a friend for several years, are you still friends? Are we friends who meet at Drunken Philosophy or Omnipresent Atheists? * Can you be friends with someone with whom you have virulently divergent political views? Sartre and Camus could not. * Aristotle regarded friendship as essential to a good life, not merely an added "bonus." Do you agree? * In the Nicomachean Ethics (Books VIII and IX), he claims that wealth and power are meaningless without friends. Trump has wealth and power but seems to have no real friends, but wealth and power seem meaningful to him in perverted ways. Can you have meaning in your life without friends? * Do men and women view and maintain friendships in different ways? * Aristotle categorizes friendship into three types, based on what forms the bond: * **Utility**: Based on mutual benefit, but this type is fragile and ends when the usefulness ceases. * **Pleasure**: Based on shared enjoyment (e.g., humor, hobbies). Common among youth but fades as interests change. * **Virtue (The "Complete" Friendship)**: Based on mutual respect for each other's character and goodness. You wish good for the other for their sake, not yours. * **Key Principles of "True" (Virtuous) Friendship:** * **Permanence**: Virtuous friendships last a lifetime whereas those based on utility and pleasure are fleeting. * **Reciprocity**: Requires mutual goodwill; secret or unreciprocated affection does not qualify. * **The "Second Self"**: A true friend is "another self"—their virtue helps you understand and improve yourself. * **Time and Intimacy**: Deep ("complete") friendships are few, built on time and shared experiences. * **Self-Love and Friendship:** * Good friendship starts with being a friend to yourself. * They distinguish shallow egoism (chasing honors) from real self-love (pursuing virtue). * A virtuous person’s pleasant self-company allows them to be a stable, good friend to others. * Aristotle argues that one's social circle ultimately reflects one's character—a view with striking relevance today. Well--the Drunken Philosophy social circle certainly reflects good character!
