Oddball Cinema is pleased to begin a series of Oddball Adventures at James Duncan Library: movies that take the viewer into strange and unexpected places, some real, some imaginary. With a few liberties taken by the writers for dramatic effect, our first feature is based on actual events. In 1862 a young scientist (who would establish the field of meteorology) ascends in a balloon to study the upper atmosphere. Although his pilot on the historic flight was a man, in this feature the pilot is a woman based largely on a professional French balloonist of the era. As the two of them soar to an altitude never before attained, they face unexpected hazards and must resort to heroic measures to survive. We're collaborating with Westerville Queer Collective to gather supplies and pack care packages. We’ll be assembling care packages with food, warm weather supplies, recreational items like books, and resource guides for local unhoused folks. Packages will then be delivered to HEER2SERVE, local nonprofit that has weekly “serves”, when they go out into local encampment areas and deliver needed items and food. Our care packages will be a part of that. WQC will supply containers and food items for the care packages. So this time we are primarily focusing on gathering donations for keeping warm, including up to 50 of the following items: Clean or new socks, hats, scarves and gloves Handwarmers Sanitizing wipes Lighters You are welcome to contribute items or just come and help pack.
