Day DJ is a weekly series at Villa Vida Café where local DJs take over the space and share their sound in a daytime setting. The series focuses on new talent, experimentation, and community. It creates a low-pressure environment where DJs can develop ideas, shape their sound, and connect with people through music. The format is intentionally relaxed and accessible. Visitors are welcome to come by to listen, work, meet friends, have coffee, or stay for the entire set. Day DJ aims to create an ongoing platform where local DJs can grow their practice while contributing to Vienna’s queer and underground music culture. DJ teufling DJ teufling brings a high-energy selection moving through bounce, trance, techno, acid, and Latin-inspired sounds. Expect fast-paced rhythms ranging from 135–165 BPM, mixed with playful 2000s influences and unexpected connections between genres. DJs have always played an important role in queer culture. In spaces where queer people were excluded or unsafe, DJs helped create environments where identity, expression, connection, and experimentation could exist. Many of the foundations of modern nightlife — including house, disco, and club culture — emerged from queer communities, especially Black and Latinx scenes. Day DJ continues this tradition by offering space for emerging artists, community exchange, and alternative forms of gathering outside of traditional nightlife hours. Free entry. Celeste Seven years of Villa Vida. We come together at Celeste on June 19 to mark a moment of continuity, pressure, and care. This night holds celebration and urgency at the same time. Villa Vida started as a space for queer life in Vienna that centers presence, voice, and collective strength. Over seven years, it grew into a hub for organizing, gathering, and creating. A place where art, music, and community work sit side by side. These years hold many forms of work: 1. queer joy built through shared nights and events 2. radical resistance expressed through culture and action 3. space for queer youth to be seen and supported 4. consistent focus on disabled, POC, and marginalized communities 5. ongoing organizing in the heart of Vienna This work did not stay abstract. It stayed present. In rooms, in conversations, in performances, in care networks that formed around need. We continue because the need continues. This night also responds to current pressure. Funds from the event go toward rising rent costs and the Queer Vienna Mutual Aid Fund. Both are essential to keeping community infrastructure alive and accessible. Villa Vida plans to continue creating and collaborating for as long as capacity allows. Support at every level helps sustain that path. Entry follows a pay-what-you-can model. Across Italy and the Lusophone world — Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique — ***convivio*** — living together through the meal. In Southern Africa, ***ubuntu*** — "I am because we are." In Okinawa, ***moai*** — the lifelong circle that eats, walks, and grows old together. Across Malaysia and Indonesia, ***makan-makan*** — the easy, communal feast. In the Sikh tradition across South Asia, ***langar*** — where every person eats as equal, seated on the same floor. Eight cultures. Eight words. One truth: **the long table, the slow meal, the people who start as strangers and end as family.** The Blue Zones research — Dan Buettner's work on the five places where humans live longest and healthiest (Okinawa, Sardinia, Ikaria, Nicoya, Loma Linda) — keeps pointing back to this. Not the recipe. The table. The presence. The time. So let's do it. **What:** One long table. Food we cook together. The show combines comedy and storytelling with wit, boldness, and self-awareness. Performer Denice Bourbon once described FLONA as a “Self-made Feminist” after hearing her stories about growing up in Syria, arriving in Europe as a refugee, and building a new life in Vienna. The term stayed — because FLONA’s feminism was not inherited or taught in theory classrooms, but shaped through lived experience, resistance, and constant self-reflection.
