Vibe Code March with Sydney Parks
Vibe Code March with Sydney Parks
Dive into the world of Artificial Intelligence in Web Development with Vibe Code Austin at our March meetup. Explore how AI is revolutionizing how websites and applications are built and discover practical applications for real-world projects. Learn about the latest trends and techniques for integrating AI algorithms into web programming to enhance user experiences and streamline the development process. In March, we invite special guest Sydney Parks to share "Palettable Programming: AI Workflows by a Painter." Palettable Programming is about using AI and code the way you use a paintbrush and paint. AI is woven into the fabric of Parks’ artistic practice, from visual ideation and conceptual research to project planning, AI-generated modeling, and AI-assisted programming. In this talk, the artist and Professor will share how she moved from being a painter to becoming an autodidact programmer and teacher. She’ll walk through her AI workflows built through experimentation, failure, and a constant desire to automate and expand her studio practice. This talk will end with a live demo so you can see behind the scenes, including the inevitable glitches along the way. [Sydney Parks](https://www.sydneyparks.io/) is an Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Texas at Austin and an interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of virtual and physical space. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Houston, where she also served as a Teaching Fellow. Her career spans exhibitions, teaching, and public art, and she previously worked as Assistant Director at Anya Tish Gallery in Houston. Committed to community engagement, Sydney has taught Prison Drawing to male inmates at the Huntsville Holliday Unit. Her artwork has been exhibited at institutions including the Blaffer Art Museum and Lawndale Arts Center, and her work has been published in HCE Review (Dublin, Ireland) and R2: The Rice Review (Houston, Texas). She lives and works in Austin, Texas. We'll also talk about recent developments in Vibe Coding this month, such as Claude projects, Cursor's Cloud Agents, WebMCP, how to teach your dog to vibe code, and a hands on demonstration of AI-assisted engineering with the Cursor IDE. Whether you're a seasoned web developer or a curious beginner, this workshop will provide valuable insight into incorporating AI into your project. Meetup only allows 10 to RSVP to each event. If RSVPs are full on Meetup, join us on [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/events/1280681410680972/). Hosted by [Time 2 Magic](https://time2magic.com)

HABEX2 - High Altitude Balloon Flight - Design Update - Hybrid
HABEX2 - High Altitude Balloon Flight - Design Update - Hybrid
This event is managed by Nature Nerds Austin -- https://www.meetup.com/nature-nerds-of-austin/ This is the monthly design status and update meeting. Participation is both in person and online. The meeting will be held at a private makerspace, Diogenes. It is located in the same building as the adult club Colette Austin. The door is at the left end of the building, Suite C. Go to the back of the first floor workspace and head upstairs. If you have questions please feel free to submit them in the comments below or send them to me directly. Zoom meeting details will be posted about a half hour before the meeting begins. HABEX - High Altitude Balloon Experiments The reference to experiments is two-fold. The first is in regard to the actual balloon construction and flight processes. The second is a reference to the payload and what it does during the flight (e.g. images, environmental measurements, etc.). To be clear, there will be two design processes going on in parallel, the balloon proper and the payload. This initial flight is really focusing on the balloon to get that process pinned down and clearly defined. The initial payload should be simple (e.g. digital camera taking pictures). One of the primary design considerations will be the use of CanSat techniques in the design and construction process. We may need to build a technology demonstrator for this (i.e. dummy payload) before the actual flight process. CanSat -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CanSat Design Process: Design/Buy > Assemble > Test > Loop (Will it fly?) > Flight Plan Meeting Sequence: Pilot - Initial meeting (possibly two) to gauge interest and get first round of participants. Design - Group responsible for the first four stages of the Design Process. - Multiple meetings. Pre-Flight - Review process to date and verify readiness - Set the date of launch - Possibly two meetings Launch - Two teams (Launch and Recovery) Clean up - Launch team cleans up launch site and transitions to tracking and telemetry Recovery - Recovery team (possibly several groups) chases the balloon and tries to stay ahead of it. Post-Flight - Review, analysis, and release of flight report (including experimental results if any). Flight Plan: * Pre-Flight * Schedule * Assembly * Launch * Tracking * Recovery * Review/Release Results Constraints: * COVID 19 * Budget * Resources/Tools/Facilities * Legal (e.g. FAA rules about weight and number of modules) * People * Transportation

Becoming the Unfinished Man
Becoming the Unfinished Man
Most men don’t lack potential. They lack **clarity, regulation, and direction**. This gathering is for men who feel they are in a transition — between who they’ve been and who they know they’re becoming — and want a space to think clearly, speak honestly, and move forward deliberately. There will be room for listening. There will be room for receiving. This is not about pretending to have it all figured out. In this session, we’ll explore: * What stage we feel like we're stuck in. * How to align Identity with our actions * How emotional regulation creates confidence and authority * What it actually means to “work on yourself” in real life * How to move even when others around you are stuck The format is conversational, reflective, and practical. You’ll leave with **clear distinctions, grounded insight, and a stronger internal compass** — not hype. You don’t need to be confident. You don’t need to be complete. You just need to be honest about being **unfinished**. This is a room for men who are still becoming. This group is best suited for men who value reflection, responsibility, and growth over blame or posturing.

From Web Forms to Web Components - Burton Smith
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 **Abstract** Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively. This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. We’ll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from server‑driven controls, and why they’re becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether you’re maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, you’ll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standards‑based way. **YouTube Link** TBA

How LLMs Like ChatGPT Actually Work and How to Build With Them
How LLMs Like ChatGPT Actually Work and How to Build With Them
**First meetup of the Columbus AI Engineering group.** We’ll kick things off with a practical, beginner-friendly discussion on: **How LLMs like ChatGPT actually work — and how to build real applications with them.** We’ll cover: * what’s actually happening under the hood (at a high level) * why LLMs behave the way they do (hallucinations, prompt sensitivity, etc.) * how people are building real systems with them today * where things break in practice This will be a **short, informal talk (\~15–20 min)** followed by open discussion and Q&A. Whether you’re an engineer, builder, or just curious about how modern AI systems work, you’re welcome to join. No slides, no fluff — just real conversation about real systems. We’ll hang out afterward and get to know each other.
