Beavers, Brews, & Big Dills: Touch Rugby Kickoff!
Alright Beavers, it’s time to emerge from the lodge and get back on the pitch! Practice is officially back this week, and we’re capping off the first week with a session that is—quite literally—a big deal.
We’ll start with a **fun touch session** to shake off the rust and work on our ball handling. After we’ve built up a proper thirst, we’re heading straight to **Audacious Alewerks** for a post-practice social.
**Why you shouldn't miss it:** It happens to be **Pickle Day** at the brewery! Since we’re Beavers, we usually stick to wood, but this Saturday we’re making an exception for some fermented cucumbers.
**The Game Plan:**
* **Touch Rugby:** Fast-paced, low-contact, high-fun. 🏉
* **The Weather:** Looks like it will be a wonderful warm and sunny day!
* **The After-Party:** We’re heading to Audacious Alewerks in Falls Church.
* **The Goods:** They are bringing back the **"Kind of a Big Dill" Pickle Gose Ale**. If beer isn't your thing, they’ve got **pickle martinis**.
* **The Grub:** **Bad Ass Pickles** will be there from Noon–4:00 PM doing tasting flights. Word on the street is they go great with grilled cheese.
**The Details:**
* **When:** This Saturday, March 7th.
* **Where:** Larry Graves Park then Audacious Alewerks.
* **RSVP:** Do it now.
Let’s kick the season off right. See you on the pitch!

The AGI Transition: How AI Affects Work and Life
To help us estimate attendance and to see the venue address, please RSVP on Luma!: https://luma.com/af0yjzz6
*A free, public workshop—no technical background needed*
Artificial intelligence is no longer just getting better at narrow tasks—it’s beginning to look *general*. Many researchers believe we’re entering the early stages of the **AGI transition**: a period where AI systems start to match or exceed human abilities across a wide range of domains.
This workshop explores what AGI actually means, how to think about it intuitively (without hype or jargon), and what this transition could mean for your job, your relationships, and your day-to-day life—much sooner than most people expect.
Together, we’ll explore questions like:
**What is AGI?**
How do experts define artificial general intelligence, and how is it different from today’s AI tools?
**Work & Jobs:**
Which kinds of jobs are already being automated or transformed—and which ones experts believe are most likely to remain resilient?
**Human Connection:**
How is AI starting to replace or supplement roles once filled by coworkers, friends, tutors, therapists, and companions?
**Robots & the Physical World:**
What happens when advanced AI is paired with rapidly improving robotics—and which parts of the economy could change next?
**What you’ll get:**
* A clear, beginner-friendly explanation of AGI and why it matters
* Real-world examples of how AI is already reshaping work and social life
* Live demos that highlight both impressive capabilities and emerging risks
* Interactive discussion and exercises to test your own intuitions about the future
Come ready to grapple with one of the biggest transitions humanity may ever face—a shift that could redefine not just how we work, but how we relate to each other, find meaning, and navigate a world increasingly shaped by intelligent machines.

Handy Bikes | MOOTS Routt 45 Demo Experience
**The MOOTS Routt 45 Demo Experience:** *A Full Size Run (50cm–60cm)*
One bike for any occasion. Every size for our riders.
**We are stoked to announce a special collaboration with our MOOTS factory representative for an exclusive demo day at Handy Bikes Retail Showroom.** We aren't just bringing a couple of bikes; we’ll have an entire size run of the legendary Routt 45 ready for you to throw a leg over.
**The Bike: The Routt 45**
**The Routt 45 is the "do-everything" titanium gravel machine**, named after the unpredictable mix of surfaces found on Routt County Road 45 in Steamboat Springs. Whether it’s forest tracks, chunky gravel, or the trails where the maps end, this bike is built to handle it all with:
**-Modern Gravel Geometry:** *A longer top tube paired with a shorter stem for stability and precision.*
**-All-Day Comfort:** *A relaxed, upright posture that lets you stay in the saddle longer.*
**-Massive Clearance:** *Room for up to 50c-wide tires to soak up the chatter.*
**-Ti-Flexibility:** *Compatible with both 1x and 2x drivetrains and featuring discreet fender eyelets.*
**Find Your Perfect Fit**
Titanium is a lifetime investment, and getting the fit right is the first step. Our rep will be on-site to help you dial in your setup across the full range:
*Available Sizes: 50cm \| 52cm \| 54cm \| 56cm \| 58cm \| 60cm*
**Don't Just Read the Reviews—*Ride the Legend***
It’s rare to see a full size run of MOOTS in one place, let alone get to take them for a ride. This is a unique opportunity to skip the 'parking lot test' and actually feel how handcrafted US-made titanium handles. Whether you're dreaming of your *'forever bike'* or just want to see what the hype is about, this is the day to do it.
The Power of the Subconscious Mind
**THE POWER OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS OVER YOU**
You are welcome to arrive 15 minutes early for refreshments!
At the lecture "The Power of the Subconscious", the speaker will clearly and understandably explain topics such as:
What is the exact definition of the Subconscious Mind?
How does it inflict unwanted feelings and anxiety in you?
What determines how much pressure it exerts on a person?
What exactly is the goal of the subconscious?
This is not just a lecture where you sit quietly and listen. It's interactive and LIVE, so you can ask questions at any time.
And the most important topic:
**HOW DO YOU TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR SUBCOUNSCIOUS?**
**Attend and find out.**

**How it works**
Near the beginning of the event, we do an introduction circle. You say your name, what you can help others with, and what you would like help with. You can also share job opportunities. After the introduction circle, everything is self-organized.
**Event Host and Directions**
We are meeting in the big meeting room at the back of the library.
Meaningful Conversation and Coffee - Northside Social Falls Church
**Join us in Falls Church for conversations that go beyond small talk.**
Higher Grounds – Falls Church is where this growing network of gatherings began: a space for thoughtful, authentic dialogue about what matters most. Whether we’re exploring the nature of happiness, the challenges and possibilities of midlife, spirituality, culture, capitalism, parenting, or the role of art and travel in a meaningful life, every conversation is shaped by the people in the room.
There’s no set leader or rigid agenda—just a shared commitment to listen as much as we speak. We start with brief introductions focused on what makes you *you* (not your LinkedIn bio), then dive straight into whatever is on people’s minds. The direction of each meetup emerges organically, making every event unique.
MANDATORY: PLEASE REVIEW OUR COMMUNITY GUIDELINES IN THE GROUP DESCRIPTION. Everyone is expected to engage in respectful conversations and listen deeply as well as share. We have a zero tolerance policy of sexual harassment and hate speech.
Come ready to share, reflect, and connect with others in Falls Church who are also seeking deeper conversations.

Building a Scanning Tunneling Microscope - Lab Day - Attempt Scans
***Join us for a day in an electronics lab, as we attempt to finalize the system, and run scans for atoms.*** We will likely not succeed on our first attempt - but we still plan to put the time in.
If you RSVP, you will get a DM with the address but it's located in Silver Spring.
We will attempt full, clean lab - clean tip repeated scanning tests to see what we can learn and improve. We will experiment with online attendees, but if all possible showing up in person is strongly encouraged. Online join link is: - [https://meet.jit.si/mocomakers](https://meet.jit.si/mocomakers)
Our community is building (and documenting for other teams) how to build a scanning tunneling microscope using a mix of common and 3D printed parts. This will allow us to scan and visualize a single atom - an ambitious we are doing over the course of a few months.
The MoCo Makers community is one of the most innovative and competent groups in Maryland, and we've done everything from [publishing cancer research](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38136356/), to [launching products](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gotim/cozy-curvy-multi-contour-pillow), [winning grants](https://covidinfocommons.datascience.columbia.edu/awards/2014255), and inspiring thousands.
Now our biggest challenge yet has appeared. We are building a Scanning Tunneling Microscope, that will allow us to scan and visualize single atoms.
To get a better idea of what we are doing, see our reference project here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N3OqTEq08g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N3OqTEq08g)
All starting CAD, code, and reference files should exist. However, let's be the first Maker community to document the build process and share it with learners around the world.
We will be publishing our work here -[ https://hackaday.io/project/202816-qt-panda](https://hackaday.io/project/202816-qt-panda)
