Let’s spend a winter evening at Melbourne Planetarium for Scienceworks’ Discover the Night Sky session. This month’s topic is: Exoplanets: exploring alien atmospheres The session is part of Scienceworks’ Discover the Night Sky series, hosted with astronomer Dr Tanya Hill, exploring Melbourne’s night sky, astronomy stories, and the latest space news. We’ll meet outside the Melbourne Planetarium entrance gates at 6:00pm, then head in for the 6:30pm Planetarium session. After the show, ticket holders for the early session are encouraged to stay for stargazing from around 7:30pm to 8:30pm, weather permitting. Mostly standing, sitting, and short walking around the venue. * Vibe: Friendly, calm, social, and low-pressure. * Group style: We’ll meet before the show, attend the session, then stay for stargazing if it goes ahead. **Weather / backup** The Planetarium session is indoors and should go ahead as scheduled. The stargazing part is weather dependent and may not happen if there are clouds, rain, or high winds. The way of the Sufi (or Dervish) is an ancient wisdom-teaching tradition. Its roots reach back to the beginnings of human spiritual consciousness. From these origins have grown the studies of psychology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and other sciences. Yet many imagine that Sufism is a mystical branch of Islam mainly because of poor, academic, and incomplete knowledge of its foundations. It is the pure water of spiritual awareness that runs through all great religions and prophets. Since its beginnings, Sufism has transmitted the same knowledge of what it means to be a Human Being, acclimating to the time, place, people and language. A traditional but Australian school of Sufism, *The Ansari Sufi Order*, is now established in Sydney and Melbourne. Associated with these teachings is healing, counseling, spiritual growth, creativity in music, theater, and other arts; and increasing your learning capacities. You will also learn about the founders of the order, Abdul Qadir al Jilani, Ahmeder Rifai; *zikr*, *ilahi*, how to balance your life, and enjoy heart-full companionship, Sufi stories and poems from Rumi, Hafiz and others. We usually conduct the Sufi Ceremony of Remembrance (Zikr). Traditional Sufi teaching stories and poetry may be presented. These include works by Rumi, Hafiz and Nasruddin. **I am trialing a new form of get together for those who love contemporary visual art and art spaces. I invite you to visit one art exhibition during the month and then to meet with like-minded art-geeks to share details and impressions in a cafe environment. I will offer suggestions about which exhibitions to visit, but encourage you to visit the spaces/exhibitions in your own time and in your own company. I will offer prompts to enhance your gallery visit and also to encourage conversation when we unite at a cafe. Location and date of cafe meeting will be decided closer to time and with consultation with the group. I intend to keep group numbers small.
