ABC of CROWDFUNDING (workshop) 🤑💰😎 How to fund your writing projects!
Have you ever wondered how you could make money as a writer? You dream of being more independent or taking the next steps, but don't know how? Or you are trying to find an audience willing to pay for your words? Then this **WORKSHOP on CROWDFUNGING you own WRITING PROJECTS** is exactly for you! **🤑💰😎**
This workshop have limited seats available**. Reserve your spot today!**
**ABOUT THE EVENT**
Let's face it: making money as a writer isn't easy. 😢 Here, I'll will present strategies and experiences with **CROWDFUNDING** so that you, too, can get (financial) wind in your writing career! 😀💸🤩
I will give a presentation of financies strategies on two platforms: **KICKSTARTER** and **PATREON** based on my own succesful project which has raised more than 10,000 USD last year on [Kickstarter "The Dessert that Changed the World"](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jens-notroff/the-dessert-that-changed-the-world). I will also talk about my recently launched [Patreon page](https://www.patreon.com/corradonai) which is off to a great start.
The focus will be on my own (science) writing, but you will learn tools applicable to raising funds for ***any*** writing.
From this workshop you will get away with is and plans for *your own* writing project. You will gain plenty of ideas, inspirations and suggestions that can be used on *any* projects, genres, mediums, plans you are developing, and crowdfunding platforms you want to explore.
After a presentation (about 30-45 minutes) about crowdfunding, focussing on what worked well, and what didn't work that well, we will have a practical exercise, a group discussion, and there will be time for questions.
At the end of the presentation, everyone will be prompted to prepare a short plan and pricing of their (mock) public facing crowdfunding campaign. You will be asked to answer the following questions: What products you'd like to offer as reward to supporters? How would you price them? What other strategies could you use to get succesfully funded? What are your goals? After about 20-30 minutes of work on your assignment, we will discuss together (some) of the plans presented by attendees.
For any questions not answered in the project description, feel free to post a comment in the event page.
We have organised this event before, as well as plenty of other workshops... take a look!

Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us as we get together for an Arthouse Movie Friday event to see the A24 dark comedy /romance / psychological-thriller, THE DRAMA! The film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a happily engaged couple whose relationship is challenged when one discovers unsettling truths about the other. Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: The film follows a happily engaged couple whose relationship is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails. The film comes from A24, is written/directed by Kristoffer Borgli stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Zoë Winters.
QUICK WORD OF WARNING: The film hasn’t screened for critics yet and most of the details are being kept tightly under wraps. But, early buzz (possibly promotional) says the film is a brilliant psychological thriller/romance but also provocative, twisty and some contains occasional uncomfortable viewing! I love the cast and trailer, so look forward to seeing for ourselves!
ZENDAYA-PATTINSON TRIFECTA CHALLENGE: Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will star in THREE movies together this year, including THE DRAMA, Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY this Summer and Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE: PART THREE at Christmas!
TRAILER: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk)
PLAN: We’ll plan for 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime! Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater but early arrival is advised. Possibly post-movie get-together at the nearby Rusty Bucket! Complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
Take care and look forward to seeing you there, Dan
The Graduate
This 1967 film is widely regarded as one of the best American movies ever made. Now remembered almost as much for its Simon and Garfunkel music as its deadpan comedy and being the role that established Dustin Hoffman as the hottest actor in Hollywood. It became a cultural icon for capturing the spirit of 60s angst of a young man on the make, while garnering a batch of Oscar nominations.
After watching the movie on your own, join us to relive (or experience!) those feelings at our discussion.
DoJo (Informal Python Meeting)
**New Dojo Location!**
**Knotty Pine Brewing**
1765 W 3rd Ave,
Columbus, OH 43212
We're going to try a new dojo location for a few weeks and see how it works
Dojos are informal Python group study sessions where everyone interested in Python gathers to learn about Python, help others with Python, or just hang out. Everyone is welcome from Python beginners to experts. Bringing a laptop is encouraged (we'll have extension cords and power strips). If there's something you want to learn leave a comment on this invite so we can plan ahead.
We're looking for topic suggestions and people interested in presenting at our monthly meetings. To this end we've set up a survey form at [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15eBKF1nQQ2XS5gzD4rvhVRHMBEj7lJtHuA9wXupS3Uc](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15eBKF1nQQ2XS5gzD4rvhVRHMBEj7lJtHuA9wXupS3Uc)
Discount Tuesday: THEY WILL KILL YOU at the Gateway Film Center!
Join us as we get together for a Discount Tuesday event to see the off-the-rails, over-the-top, action-comedy-horror THEY WILL KILL YOU! Zazie Beetz as a woman who answers a help wanted ad to be a housekeeper in a mysterious New York City high-rise not knowing its mysterious past! Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: A woman takes a job as a housekeeper in a NYC high-rise, unaware of the building's history of disappearances. She soon realizes the community is shrouded in mystery. The film is directed by Kirill Sokolov and Zadie Beetz, Myha'la, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette. The film is being released immediately following its premiere at this year’s SXSW Festival earlier this month.
TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYqQPiXpi4w
BUZZ: Early reviews say it’s “an adrenaline rush of action-packed fights, tons of blood and gore and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments” and a movie that’s “unafraid to march to its own campy, violent, and clever little drummer!” But a quick word of warning -- according to reviewers, "it's gory, excessive, hyper-stylized, and ultra-violent" sigh 'show-stopping fight choreography and an abundance of epic gore" but on the plus side, "It has been a while since we’ve had a movie as weird and fun as this one.
PLAN: Please purchase your ticket for the 7:45pm showing and we’ll meet inside the upstairs lobby between 7:25 and 7:35pm! Tickets on sale now and just $5.00 ($6.50 after online fees when purchased via the GFC website). Close, convenient parking available in the nearby garage (Between 9th and 11th, just off High) and just $2 when you have your ticket validated at the theater!
NOTE ON TOW: Unfortunately, TOW looks to be a one-week only Gateway exclusive so the word I’m receiving is it won’t be around any longer on the date of our event, so this event will likely be to see THEY WILL KILL YOU! Temporarily downgrading the TOW portion to a “Possible Alternate Title.” Once I confirm on Tuesday evening, I’ll update the event and (most likely) remove the TOW portion then.
Should be a wild one, Dan

Hybrid MI Python: Monthly Talk
Use this link:
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85031832141?pwd=7Sa7wy8KlHqPhKxYQUl42uCsf8YawO.1
**Opening Talk:**
Luisa will demo a sassy AI-powered plant built in FastAPI using GPT-4o to explore personality, dialogue design, and human-AI interaction.
**Main Talk:**
What about using certain CLIs puts a smile on your face and gets you telling all your friends and colleagues about it?
The Unix philosophy emphasizes simplicity, modularity, and the idea that programs should do one thing well and work together. However, CLI programs are primarily used by humans. Programs that you actually enjoy using can achieve both of these aims of composability and human-centeredness.
This talk explores what makes CLIs great: fast, trusted, and delightful. Through real-world examples from modern tools like uv, cargo, ripgrep, and GitHub CLI, you'll learn the design patterns that separate good CLIs from great ones.
Whether you're building package managers, creating developer tools, or just curious why modern CLIs feel so much better, you'll leave with a practical checklist of techniques to apply to any CLI tool you build.
**Agenda:**
7:00pm - Opening announcements
7:10pm - Opening Topic - Build an AI-powered, Sassy Speaking Plant
7:25pm - Main Topic - Designing Delightful CLIs with Python
7:50pm - Q&A
