Well it's New Year's once again, 2026, and it's time to party.
Let's restart the process and head into the sun. It will be a great year I'm sure. Well in theory anyway. Let's make 2026 shine.
Over the years, Toronto has played host to some of the most famous nightclubs in the world. Nightclubs that not only invited the world's celebrities to party, but also created an exciting city that loved to boogie into the early morning. These nightclubs and dance halls turned the city of the Sunday Blue Laws into one of the world's party towns. And historically some of them are still around, but in a very different setting. Come along on a voyage of discovery as we look back at thirty of the iconic nightclubs in the downtown core.
And take a trip down memory lane to the spots we all know and love. I remember two clubs from my youth, one was the iconic RPM on the lakeshore and Sparkles at the CN Tower. Do I have stories to tell about these two? Oh yeah, do I! Just don't hold it against me! Hope to see you on this walk, and Happy New Year, 2026.
This walking tour is for all fitness levels and skills. Please dress for the weather.
This walking tour begins at the Toronto Reference Library on Yonge Street just north of Bloor Street. We end at the King Edward Hotel on King Street East!
And hope to see you there!
This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person!

McCrae Lake New Year Kick Off Hike
**Please note the only way to register for this adventure is on [our website](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/snowtubing-2026-).**
***2026 is here and it is time to conquer your resolutions by getting active, connecting with nature and meeting new people.***
McCrae lake is an absolutely gorgeous conservation reserve at the Southern end of the Canadian Shield. It is nestled in secluded beauty just a stoneâs throw from Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. Only a couple of hours away from Toronto, it's very quiet this time of year, so youâll have the opportunity to fully decompress from the never-ending buzz of the city.
This is an 8km out-and-back hike thatâs relatively easy - if you are comfortable walking a brisk 5k, youâll enjoy this hike. We never leave anyone behind!
**What you can expect on this hike:**
\- Winding forest trails
\- An epic lakeside lunch lookout
\- Possible wildlife spotting
\- Moments to learn about and experience Ontario nature
\- Frozen lakes abound
**Depending on snow levels we may be required to use snowshoes or ice spikes. We have a limited quantity available that you can grab at check-out. Ice spikes are free to borrow and snow shoes can be rented for a small fee.**
**Please note that parking is extremely limited at this location and youâre strongly recommended to take Wilderness Unionâs transport to avoid disappointment on arrival.**
**Highlights**
**Pristine Nature:** Breathe deeply and take in the beautiful, quiet power of this hidden spot away from it all.
**Epic Lookouts:** Enjoy lunch with friends from a stunning viewpoint.
**Frozen Lakes:** See how the winter cold transforms Ontarioâs landscape.
**Event cost**
***Starting from $50+HST - optional transport available!***
**Register [here](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/mccrae-winter-2026).**
**About Wilderness Union**

Members range from 20-40 years old. The group is a mix of GTA locals and newcomers to Toronto from within Canada and abroad.
Attendance numbers on Meetup don't reflect our actual event attendance - we typically have 15-20 community members at each event. Large enough that there's someone new to meet but small enough that it's not overwhelming!

1. Leave the subway station and walk west for about three minutes along Dundas Street.
2. At the intersection of Bay Street and Dundas Street, you will find an entrance. Proceed down the escalator.
3. The food court is on the basement floor. Please talk to the organizer with the signboard showing TJEX. (If you canât find them, please send a message to the organizer.)
â ïžRSVP & Late Policy

* If you are running late, please ensure you send a message to the organizer so we can keep a spot open for you. We will rearrange the groups for members who show up on time. If you show up late without letting us know, we will no longer allow you to join so please be mindful of the time.
Waiting List:
Members can join the waiting list if an event is full. In case a spot becomes available, it will be automatically assigned to a member on the waitlist on a first-come first-serve basis.
PLEASE BE ADVISED:
Members from the âWaitingâ list are moved automatically to the âGoingâ list by the system when a spot opens up. You may or may not get a notification from Meetup when this happens. So only sign up on the âWaiting listâ for an event if you are sure you can come for it. If the system automatically puts you on the âGoingâ list and you don't show up to the event, you will receive a strike.

Art Deco is all around us.
Streamlined Modern or Art Modern are two other fascinating ways to say the same thing. Whichever way you plan on saying it, Art Deco buildings tell a rich story of optimism and positivity during one of the most darkest decades in history, the great depression of the 1930s!
This walking tour explores our built environment of our downtown core. Toronto Stock Exchange built in 1937, along with the Royal York Hotel and the Canada Permanent Trust Company are prime examples. But others line Spadina Avenue during the challenging years of the depression, but also during the tensions which were bubbling in the Garment Industry. Art Deco buildings were centre stage!
These buildings tell a story that goes beyond style into the heart of the Toronto story itself!
Built at the height of the roaring 1920s and 1930s, the bubble was about to burst however, and the depression was just settling in. But a new style would set the tone, and it was called Art Deco!
Toronto built some of its most enduring buildings, and left a built legacy of Art Deco during the 1930s which should be treasured and protected. Losing any of these treasures would surly be a loss to the community. They tell a rich and inviting story about the growth of Canada, and Toronto!
This walking tour is for all walking levels. Please dress for the season, and hope to see you there.
Please meet under the **clock tower** of the Queens Quay Terminal at 207 Queens Quay West on the south side just west of York Street! We end on Spadina and Richmond Street!
This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person.

Vision Loss Support Group: AT Ohio
Bill Darling, Director of Assistive Technology Ohio (AT Ohio), will address the purpose and function of AT Ohio. Of particular interest to our group is likely their Device Lending Library.
As taken from their website, AT Ohio's mission is to help Ohioans with disabilities learn about or acquire assistive technology. Assistive Technology refers to devices, equipment or services that assist individuals with disabilities to function independently in the areas of work, home or school.
AT Ohio is NOT a grants-giving or funding organization. They do not assist in financing the purchase of any assistive technology. If you need funding for a device, they might be able to direct you to resources that may provide funding, but they do not fund devices.
Target audience for this group is persons who are visually impaired, especially those who have experienced recent loss, however, all are welcome, including family members and supports. Light refreshments will be served.
You can also join the meeting by Conference Call at (518) 263-8851.

This political thriller from Brazil is set in 1977 where a man flees from a mysterious past and returns to his hometown but soon finds the city is far from being the refuge he seeks. Hereâs a description, trailer and plan for this event:

BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The Secret Agent was the most awarded film at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival where it won Best Actor for Wagner Moura, Best Director for Mendonça Filho, the Art House Cinema Award and the FIPRESCI Prize. At this yearâs Golden Globes, it became Brazilâs first film ever to be nominated for Best Film (Drama)!
