**SUBSCRIBE TO [THE MAILING LIST](https://torontorationality.beehiiv.com/). EVENTS ARE NO LONGER POSTED HERE.** Arguing about important things doesn’t usually lead to people changing their mind. Double Crux is a technique for making discussions more productive and understanding the actual reasoning of those who disagree with us. Sometimes it even helps to better understand the foundations of your own beliefs. Together, we'll learn about [Double Crux](https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/ya59PtGeYnCG25eWn/double-crux-in-a-box), and then break into pairs with someone we disagree with to practice finding out why our views are different and what might change our minds. ## Location Enter the Mars Atrium via University Avenue entrance. We'll meet at the food court in the basement. I'll be wearing a bright neon yellow jacket. ## Detailed Directions to the Food Court Enter from University Avenue and walk east until you see escalators. Take the escalators down. The food court is to the east of the escalators. If you are lost/confused, ask a security guard to direct you to the food court. 🌆🚶‍♂️ THE PATH WALK & LUNCH ADVENTURE 🚶‍♂️🌆
🌆🚶‍♂️ THE PATH WALK & LUNCH ADVENTURE 🚶‍♂️🌆
🌆🚶‍♂️ THE PATH WALK & LUNCH ADVENTURE 🚶‍♂️🌆 Toronto’s Underground City… Let’s Go Get Lost (On Purpose) Did you know Toronto has an entire second city beneath the city? Welcome to **PATH (Toronto)** — a 30-kilometre maze of tunnels, walkways, food courts, shops, office towers, and hidden corners connecting more than 70 buildings in the downtown core. It’s climate-controlled. It’s slightly confusing. It’s uniquely Toronto. And we’re going to explore it together — above ground first, then descending into the urban underworld like the confident city adventurers we are. [NOW Magazine piece](https://web.archive.org/web/20220429041937/https://nowtoronto.com/lifestyle/health/toronto-walk-exploring-the-path-in-winter) about the PATH awhile back. 👉 **Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp group** – [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) \*\*\* 🗺️ The Plan We’ll begin at Wellesley Station and start by walking west. Then we’ll head south and eventually make our grand entrance into the PATH system. From there, we’ll continue indoors, weaving our way south through the network — past office towers, hidden corridors, and pockets of unexpected energy — all the way down to **Union Station**. At Union, we’ll head into the food court to grab lunch, sit down, and actually socialize (because that’s the point, right?). Expect lots of conversation, a little “Wait… where are we?” and a whole lot of discovering how this city secretly works. It’s part walking tour, part social hang, part urban exploration. \*\*\* 🌧️ Rain or Shine (Mostly Shine Because… Indoors) T his walk goes ahead rain or shine. The beauty of the PATH? We’ll be indoors for large portions of the route. That said, we’ll start above ground — so dress appropriately. It may be wise to bring a backpack or bag for your coat once we’re inside. You don’t want to be carrying it dramatically over your arm like you’re in a soap opera. \*\*\* 🐾 Important Notes Dogs are not allowed in the PATH system. Service animals are of course welcome. \*\*\* 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Spot: Main entrance of Wellesley Station (near the bank of PRESTO machines) 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Start time as listed — please arrive on time We’ll begin promptly so we can stay on route. \*\*\* 🎟️ **Meetup Fee:** $5 cash in person **or** e-transfer to 📧 \*\*[mathewmaclean@hotmail.com**](http://mathewmaclean@hotmail.com%2A%2A/) This fee helps support the group and allows us to keep hosting events like this. Thank you for supporting community! 💖 \*\*\* 🌈 Who Is This For? This group is open to anyone who wants to be social and make friends — whether single or not. We also host: 🎬 Movies 🚶 Walks & hikes 🎭 Arts & culture outings 🍽️ Restaurant meetups There’s always something happening. And remember — you can just show up on the day if you’re unsure about your schedule. \*\*\* ⚠️ A Gentle Reminder Sometimes life throws curveballs and events may need to be canceled — please keep an eye on updates. \*\*\* 👤 Organizer: Mathew Questions? Post on the event wall or email 📧 [torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com](mailto:torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com) Come for the tunnels. Stay for the laughs. Leave knowing a secret shortcut through downtown that most people still pretend to understand. Toronto has layers. Let’s go explore one of them. 🏙️✨

Long Point Classic Birding Extravaganza including Ruthven Park
Long Point Classic Birding Extravaganza including Ruthven Park
Greetings Bird Lovers, Why do we keep returning to Long Point? The answer is simple. At this time of year, there is no place in Southern Ontario quite like it for the sheer number and variety of birds we can see. Our last few trips to Long Point have been exceptional, and every visit seems to deliver something exciting. On our last two outings, we have saw several Bald Eagles, seen thousands of Sandhill Cranes, and enjoyed literally thousands of ducks. At times, it feels like stepping right into a National Geographic special. The birding can be that good. As spring begins to build, the longer days and milder temperatures make this one of the most enjoyable times to be outside. The first migrants are returning, Red-winged Blackbirds are beginning to sing, and the whole landscape starts to feel alive again. For me, spring is the most exciting season of all, and Long Point is one of those places that never disappoints. Long Point is one of Ontario’s most celebrated birding destinations and is recognized internationally as an Important Bird Area. Birds are present here year-round, but spring is when things really begin to come alive. We will be watching for a wide variety of waterfowl, Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, and whatever other surprises the day may bring. We'll also be making a stop at Turkey Point for a chance to see rare Little Gulls and Bonaparte Gulls. We are also stopping at Ruthven Park, where we have a chance to see Tufted Titmouse and Eastern Bluebird. As always, I will keep an eye on local bird news, and if something unusual has turned up, we may adjust our route to give ourselves the best chance of seeing it. That is part of the fun at this time of year. You never know what might show up. Whether you are a seasoned birder, a newer birder, or a photographer who simply loves being out in nature, this trip is for you. Long Point is a wonderful place to enjoy birds, scenery, and the excitement of spring migration. Binoculars are recommended, and a camera is always a great idea. One of the things that makes these outings so enjoyable is the friendly atmosphere. We always have a fun group, plenty of laughs, and a shared excitement for whatever the day brings. It should be a fantastic day out, and I would love to have you join us. We will meet at the Finch Station Passenger Pick-Up and Drop-Off area at 7:45 a.m. and depart promptly at 8:00 a.m. We expect to return at approximately 5:30 p.m. after exploring several excellent birding areas southwest of Toronto. There is space for up to 3 bird lovers in my vehicle. The cost is $99 plus tax, for a total of $112. To reserve your spot, payment can be made by PayPal or by e-transfer to torontonaturelovers@hotmail.com. If you send an e-transfer, please let me know so I can manually add you to the trip. Important: transportation is provided, and spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Come join us for a wonderful spring day of birding, nature, and great company at one of Ontario’s very best birding destinations.

Data & Analytics Wednesday - The Data-Driven Brand
Data & Analytics Wednesday - The Data-Driven Brand
**The Data-Driven Brand: Using Analytics to Shape Perception** Can you use analytics to improve tacos? This being CBUSDAW, we think the answer is probably “yes”, but we’re not sure how to implement or test this theory. For our April meetup we’ve got Sara Kear, CMO of Condado Tacos, to investigate this delicious question. Sara will explore how she blends quantitative data and qualitative customer feedback to shape brand positioning and drive business decisions. We all know that marketing and analytics go way beyond attribution. Sara will show how Condado uses customer insights to inform product and pricing strategy. She’ll also highlight how Condado leverages customer feedback at scale to influence operational priorities, positioning marketing as the voice of the customer across the organization. In the last 12 years Condado has gone from one location in Columbus to 52 locations across 10 states, so we’re guessing there’s more to that growth than really good guac (though the guac probably helps). Ultimately, this talk focuses on the intersection of art and science—using data to inform creativity and build a brand that resonates with customers in a measurable way. **About Our Speaker** Sara Kear is Chief Marketing Officer at Condado Tacos, where she oversees brand, restaurant design, menu and pricing strategy, off-premise including catering, and customer data strategy. Since joining in 2021, she has helped grow the brand from 19 to 52 locations while building a data-driven marketing organization focused on loyalty and customer insights. Condado has since been named to the Inc. 5000, recognized as Breakout Retailer by Chain Store Age, and consistently ranked among FastCasual’s Top 100 Movers & Shakers.
