May Book Club Meetup: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
London's Friendly Book Club's pick for March is **Project Hail Mary** by **Andy Weir**.
A lone astronaut.
An impossible mission.
An ally he never imagined.
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.
All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company. His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it's up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery-and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.
And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he's got to do it all alone. Or does he?
Please only RSVP if you think you'll be able to make this event. **We host three sessions per book, you only need to attend one.**
Everyone is welcome! Grab your copy and join us for a relaxed and engaging discussion.

May 30 Just Play Mahjong Club (Chinese, American Styles &Japanese Riichi)
### đ
EVENT DETAILS
đ **Where:** Aldgate Tower (just outside Aldgate East Station, Exit 1)
đ **Who:** Players who already know how to play with scores (not suitable for beginners)
â **Included:** Instructor help, free tea, coffee, and unbeatable vibes
## đ WANT TO PLAY MAHJONG REGULARLY?
Mahjong is still a niche board game in London â and since it needs **4 players**, it can be hard to organise regular games with just your own friends or family.
In many parts of Asia, **Mahjong parlours** bring people together to play. While weâre **not** running a commercial Mahjong club, we *are* here to build a **community**.
Many of our players started as complete beginners in our workshops â and now theyâre **hooked**! Thatâs why we created our **đïž Just Play tickets**.
### đ DIFFERENT MAHJONG STYLES WELCOME
### đđ° Hong Kong Style (Main Style)
Our main style is **Hong Kong Mahjong**, with a **3 fan minimum to win**.If you know how to play other Chinese styles like **Taiwanese**, **Sichuan**, or **British Mahjong**, youâre still welcome! Weâll provide **scoring cards** to help you adapt.
â ïž However, these tables are **not suitable for beginners**. If you havenât yet graduated from Level 1 or Level 2 of our workshops, or if you donât know how to score, please join our learner workshops first to build confidence.
### đŻđ” Japanese Riichi (Growing Community)
Riichi Mahjong is **new to our community**, but we love its fast pace and strategic complexity! If you already know how to play Riichi â \*\*amazing! Please join us.\*\*If you play Chinese Mahjong and want to try Riichi, one of our instructors or friendly regulars might help, but we **canât guarantee full teaching support yet**. You're welcome to learn by playing alongside others.
### đșđž American Mahjong (New Community in 2026)
Weâre excited to add **American Mahjong** to our offerings. Itâs quite different from Chinese Mahjong, so weâll run newbie workshops and regular Just Play sessions from 2026. **Note**: Just Play bookings require solid prior knowledge of American rules. However, we encourage crossâstyle learning, so if you already know one style of Mahjong, learn another with us, so you can play at any table.
## đ· OUR BEST PRICE PROMISE
Weâre doing our best to keep **Just Play tickets affordable** for a 2-hour session â thatâs our **best price promise**. đ
Unlike clubs that charge entry or venues that require a minimum spend, our ticket price covers only whatâs needed: venue, staff, admin cost.
And yes â with a booked ticket, **YOU ARE GUARNATEED A SEAT AT THE TABLE**, and we also provide **free tea, coffee**, and the occasional **festive treat**. âđȘ
We're not a charity, but we are **deeply committed** to creating a welcoming Mahjong community. đ Your support helps us keep the tiles clicking, and we love seeing familiar faces return week after week!
## đ± JOIN OUR MAHJONG WHATSAPP COMMUNITY
Stay connected with fellow players in our friendly WhatsApp group â a space to ask questions, get updates on upcoming events, and even arrange private games outside of our Saturday sessions. It's the easiest way to stay in the loop and grow your Mahjong circle!

Blood On The Clocktower in Regents Park
New and Experienced Players Welcome!
Ever played Werewolf, Mafia or Secret Hitler?
Well this game is like that but on steroids! đđ
Ever watched The Traitors and wished you could have a turn? Well now you can!
We Play **'Blood on the Clocktower'** a game where you never know who you can trust...
A great way to meet new people in a fun interactive way, in Regents Park enjoying the lovely weather!
Continue reading for a general description of the game:
Blood on the Clocktower is a bluffing game enjoyed by 5 to 20 players on opposing teams of Good and Evil, overseen by an experienced Storyteller.
During a 'day' phase players socialize openly and whisper privately to trade knowledge or spread lies, culminating in a player's execution if a majority suspects them of being Evil.
At 'night' time, players close their eyes and some are woken one at a time by the Storyteller to gather information, spread mischief, or kill. Use all your powers of deduction and deception to survive this game of murder and mystery.
The game will be fully explained at the event.

Tall Persons Meet up in a pub to talk, drink, eat and make new friends
Hello fellow tallies, **and by tallies we mean women over 5\`9 and men over 6\`2**. This is the one chance a month for us to meet up in person literally face to face in London.
We are moving back to our old central London meeting place at **The Marlborough Arms** for a few months.
**The Marlborough Arms is at 36 Torrington Pl, London WC1E 7LY**. It is
Just a few minutes from Goodge Street tube station and a 10 minute walk from Tottenham Court Road, Russell Square and Euston Square tube stations.
**The Tall Persons Club have been meeting in London on the last Friday of every month for over 30 years** so there tends to be more people there than just who is on this Meetup group.
Come and experience the back straightening joy of standing alongside people who are taller than you and learn a whole new body posture, that accompanies that - cheaper than a Chiropractor!
You are welcome to bring a non tall partner or friend, but one of you MUST be tall! **PLEASE NOTE:** this is a tall persons meet up where we tallies get a chance to talk to other tallies so there is a **minimum height requirement of 6\`2 for men and 5\`9 for women**.
The venue is a Greene King managed pub with their own range of beers, gins (!) and spirits. Classic pub grub is available. We're happy to report that the staff there are friendly and looking forward to being looked down on - in the physical sense, not the attitudinal one.
When you get to the pub, we have an area reserved right at the back of the back of the pub on the left hand side, When you get to the back room room you should see us there easily enough but if not just come in to the room where you should find either Mike, Simon, Neal, Sharran, Rory (we will have name stickers on) and we will introduce you around. If all else fails look for a 3ft wooden Giraffe called Jerry who will be sitting on on of our tables.
Everyone is nervous the first time but we are a really friendly eclectic bunch, and we really look forward to meeting you! If in doubt to where we are then just please just ask the bar staff and they will point you in the right direction.
If you have any questions, please email us at

Remember those wind tiles, flower and season tiles? Theyâre not just decorative â they play a big role. In this session, weâll dive deeper into advanced rules like wind positions, sharpen your strategy, and teach you how to master scoring and bonus points. By the end, youâll be a more confident, competitive player â ready to take your Mahjong game to the next level.
### **Why Learn With Us?**
**Weâre Professional Teachers** â We understand how people learn best and have designed two **step-by-step workshops** that makes Mahjong easy and engaging.**Mahjong is More Than a Game** â Itâs a vital part of Asian social culture, and **Dear Asia London**, as a language and culture school, is passionate about sharing these traditions with you!
