Who's Going to Save Us From the Energy Use of AI? You Are.
"Climate change: I say the debate is over. We know the science, we see the threat and we know that the time for action is now" - Arnold Schwarzenegger
Forget Skynet. Right now, AI's greatest threat to humanity is its demand for electricity. Anne Currie, co-author of O'Reilly's Building Green Software, will talk about why the energy demand from AI has exceeded anything we've seen before in tech; how that demand can and is being met using efficiency and flexibility by forward thinkers like Google and DeepSeek; and what you can do from your own desk that might have global impact on both the AI and the renewable power revolutions.
Anne will be joining us remotely.
Check out the Green Software Brighton [website](https://greensoftwarebrighton.co.uk/) for links to previous talks.
Arrive from 18:00 for pizza and drinks. Talk will start at 18:30. We always head for a drink and a chat locally afterwards too.

Disconnect & Connect in Nature
Iām putting together a small hike trip weekend in Hoorneboegse heide in Hilversum, the idea is to come with a few people who want to step out of their routine, spend time in nature, and meet others in a relaxed way.
This is not a tour or a structured retreat.
The idea is simple step out of your comfort and everyday life to reconnect with nature and with each other. We will
ā explore the beautiful nature
ā share a few moments together
ā and keep things easy and natural
There will be time together (walks and sunset).
Group size will be small (around 2- 4 people), to keep it comfortable and personal.
This Meetup is to connect people who are interested in real and human connection
If this resonates, feel free to join and Iāll share more details š
AI Agents: Test or Trust?
**The Agent Who Tested Me: Behavioral Testing for AI Skills**
**Software engineering in the age of AI agents: whoās in control?**
Welkom in moderne software engineering.

Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code - Alan Barber
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge.
**Abstract**
*Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code*
Visual Studio Code is one of the most widely used development environments today, and much of its flexibility comes from its extension ecosystem. Extensions allow developers to customize the editor with new features, integrations, and workflow improvements tailored to their needs.
In this session, weāll cover what extensions are and the different types available, including full extensions written in TypeScript or JavaScript, along with lighter-weight extensions such as color themes, language packs, language support, code snippets, and keymaps. Weāll also look at practical reasons a developer might create an extension, from automating repetitive tasks to adding custom tooling.
The session includes a hands-on walkthrough of creating a new extension, testing it locally, and understanding the basic project structure. Weāll close with a brief overview of how extensions are packaged and published to the Visual Studio Marketplace and other distribution options.
