In this lesson you'll learn the techniques of Chen Style Tai Chi movements. Chen style Tai Chi (陳式太極) is a more active form of Tai Chi with much faster and explosive power movements emulate a more realistic application of the martial arts techniques You need to be physically fit to practise this style with a balance between hard and soft, fast and slow, and able to learn the fast, explosive movements. Chen style Tai Chi (陳式太極) is the original Tai Chi style reflecting its martial art origin and techniques, It is artistic and rich in combat technique, as well as characterized by soft and vigorous movements combined. It features dynamic punches, internal power and spiral force * The Chen style of Tai Chi uses some explosive and fast moves - like jump kicks. This may be out of the fitness range of some people. * If you're already fairly fit or athletically inclined (or looking for a more exciting form of Tai Chi) consider the Chen style. * The Chen style uses wide, expansive movements that can be hard on the knees and lower back muscles. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
