Book Swap Social Event - Make New Friends Who Love Books
Do you have spare books lying around your home? Do you want to read new interesting books for free while socializing with interesting people? This is the event for you.
We will enjoy nice drinks and snacks together at a beautiful lounge bar in London. You can bring your books and exchange them with whoever has the books you want to read. Since this is a Science and Philosophy book club, it would be great for you to bring non-fiction books that are insightful and thought-provoking. If you want to bring fiction books that are scientifically or philosophically insightful, feel free to bring those as well.
Since it is a social event, I encourage everyone to make deep meaningful conversations and make new friends. You can come alone or bring your friends with you. If you come alone, there is no need to be shy or scared. I will welcome you and introduce you to cool interesting people to speak with. Also feel free to come even if you forget to bring any books.
Tribalheart Ecstatic Dance- Winter Solstice Celebration
Tribalheart Ecstatic dance creates space for free-form movement in a chat free zone where you can dive deeply into the heart, reconnecting, expressing, dancing in and out, up and down, learning to let go of anything and everything that holds you back from yourSelf and inner freedom. Let the energy move you, let the spirit of the heart guide you.
There is space to dance alone and no pressure to connect with anyone else, just be yourself and honour what you need in the moment.
This night is an inspiration and fusion of club culture, dancing yoga, active meditation, cardio fitness, Ecstatic trance dance (blindfolds available) and a sacred Nataraj. If you choose to connect, it is a chance to meet others without words from a place of movement, meditation, energy and soul; eyes and heart wide open.
### **The winter solstice celebration**
We are delighted to welcome ROHINI, who will be orchestrating a LIVE performance. š„ ROHINI brings Electro Healing: a journey where global rhythms meet deep bass, where ancestral sounds merge with modern beats, and the dance-floor becomes a space of unity, uplift, and collective vibration.
We will start the evening with a welcoming warmup to relax the body and mind. Together we will set an intention for the evening inviting the heart to open and awaken within us thus creating sacred space for all. For those that wish to partake, we will enjoy and deepen our intention with a short Cacao ceremony. (The cacao is used to take us deeper into our body, awakening our senses, connecting us to heart energy and aiding a spring in our step) We also embark on some dynamic breathwork to fire us up for the evening.
\- Please leave at least 2 hours after eating a heavy meal if drinking cacao\.
-Please do not drink alcohol before the event as it is contraindicated with some of the breathwork techniques we practice
We inject passion into sourcing the music for our events and aim to deliver an eclectic mix of genres for your heart. From tribal to electronic and everything in between we aim to assist a natural flow peaking and resting to mirror the rhythm and energy of life. Prepare to shake, spin, whirl and twirl. The music becomes the facilitator during the wild ecstatic dance ending with moments of stillness into silence where we can rest and breathe together
**20th December-Winter solstice celebration- LIVE MUSIC performance with ROHINI**
**About Rohini**

Make New Friends At A Bookshop
Do you want to meet new people in a relaxing chill atmosphere surrounded by new books? Do you dislike loud and smelly places like pubs and clubs? This is the event for you.
Science and Philosophy Book Club is creating a new kind of meetup where people who love books and knowledge can meet new friends in a big book shop. We will explore around different sections of the book shop together as a group while making interesting conversations with each other. We will go to both fiction and non-fiction areas.
If you feel shy and feel nervous to come alone, I will make sure you will feel comfortable and accomodate to your needs. I will help introduce you to others so you can go over the barrier of anxiety when approaching a new person.
We will meet on the ground floor lounge area of Doubletree Hilton Hotel at 6 p.m. It is an amazing cosy bar with classy vibes. We will wait for everyone to show up while getting some drinks and socializing. At 7 p.m we will head to the Waterstones book store near Russel Square and UCL. After we explore the book store, we will come back to the hotel bar and stay there for the rest of the night.
This event requires £3 donation to cover the venue fees. You can pay via cash or card. Thank you for helping the book club!
Tribalheart OSHO Dynamic meditation
The Venue is a room in Lauderdale house set on the entrance of the magnificent Waterlow park in Highgate (nearest tube is Archway, on the northern line. Waterlow park is less then 10min walk up highgate hill) A very beautiful location to be after such a energizing and emotionally cleansing experience!
Doors open 0830am
Instructions 0900am
Meditation -915am-1015am (no admission after 915am)
There is a cafe downstairs for you to drink, eat and connect together afterwards or you may feel drawn to wander alone into the majestic park, soaking up the beauty of the trees, lakes and landscape...whatever is right for you!
Active meditations were designed by Osho with us westerners in mind. It can be challenging with our hectic lifestyles, full of stimulus to just sit down and switch off into silence. How many times have you heard people say' I just can't meditate, my mind is too busy, my body cannot be still etc...'
Active meditations were designed by Osho to use the body and breath first, enabling us to 'empty our vessel ' through physical movement. By doing this we release pent up emotions and tension in the body so that we are more able to reach inner stillness, silence and meditation. We will commence with the dynamic meditation for a series of weeks then rotate to try other active meditations designed by Osho.
What is the dynamic meditation?
A complete work out for mind, body and soul; It is the mother of all emotional cleansers!!
More detailed instructions for new comers given at 845am(optional attendance if you know this meditation well).
Meditation starts 9am sharp. Doors will have to close then. This technique is in 5 stages that flow together beautifully to make up the complete meditation. It is done with the eyes closed so no need to feel self conscious; no one is looking at you!
Stage 1)chaotic breathing. Completely takes you out of the mind, energizes, detoxifies and oxygenates the body in preparation for the next stage
Stage 2)Catharsis-emptying your vessel! How often will you get the the opportunity to release on such a spectacular level. Your endorphins will be flying as you act out, scream, cry, shout, play madness as best you can. Doing this regular will release stress and tension on all levels; It could keep you sane:)
Stage 3)''Hoo'' phase. Grounding the energy
Stage 4)Silence...drop inside and really experience the witnessing self. Meditation will come easily now.
Stage 5)Dance. Celebrate your experience like a new born you
Meditations will start at 9am (running for one hour )on Saturday mornings. New comers please arrive at 845am if you want to go over the instructions...
Cost is on a sliding scale depending on your wage or situation-
Ā£20/15

This meditation can be done alone but the more the merrier for a real energy blast. I know it's early but get up and JOIN IN!!! Trust me you will feel amazing afterwards....
Ideally this is best done on an empty stomach(certainly not a full one). As I said there is a cafe downstairs so you won't go hungry or you can always picnic in the park!
Come alone or come with friends. Bring a bottle of water and an open mind!

Some important information:
⢠Age 18+
⢠Terrible Football meet-ups are extremely popular but unfortunately we have limited spaces. If you end up on the waiting list, please wait and see if a spot becomes available. We will have to check who has RSVP-ed if too many show up and will have to turn people away if theyāre not on the list.
⢠Please show up on time! If you have RSVP-ed but donāt show up on time, we will have to give your spot to someone else! If you show up after we have started playing, and no one else has taken your spot, you might still be asked to sit the first half out in order to prevent confusion. There is nothing worse for organisers than people showing up late!
⢠As mentioned above, we donāt charge, however, if you are a regular, we do ask you to donate some money once or twice a year for the upkeep and new equipment.
For any questions, please contact one of the organisers.

Santa Challenge Race | London 20s and 30s
**Christmas is all about giving and spreading joy and so this year, we'll once again be teaming up with [Evolve](https://www.evolvehousing.org.uk/), a leading homeless charity for another afternoon of festive giving.**
Yep on Sunday 21st December, we're hugely excited to hosting our 3rd Charity Santa Challenge.
If you've not been in previous years, this can be best described as a fun hybrid of a scavenger hunt, "Supermarket Sweep" and a fast-paced Christmas shopping trip.
The aim of the game is simple: **build the best sack of presents for the homeless.**
Using your best creativity, resourcefulness, and negotiation skills - youāll have approximately 3 hours to source a selection of gifts that can help add some sparkle for homeless young people.
To help you do this, each team will have a team present fund that will be supplemented with presents and vouchers very kindly donated by a number of major high street brands, including **TK Maxx, ZARA, Lush and Sainsburys.**
Along the way - to spice the game up, there'll be a series of live challenges designed to test creativity and speed, that can earn your team extra presents for your sack.
When the time is up, we will then finish up at a pub in Central London where we'll be judging the sacks and awarding prizes, before taking the presents over to one of Evolve's shelters in the centre of the capital.
Last year, we were able to create **[10 incredible sacks full](https://www.evolvehousing.org.uk/2025/01/fighting-homelessness-spreading-festive-cheer-the-great-santa-challenge/)** of thoughtful gifts, treats and much-needed essentials.
It was a truly special afternoon of Xmas giving and so hopefully you can join us for what will be another fun and festive afternoon again this year.
**\- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \-**
**ATTENDANCE FEE**
Whilst the event is free to attend, you are asked to bring a **Ā£5 donation to contribute** to your team's present fund and so please do come with your cash donation on the day.
**\- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \-**
**WHERE TO MEET**
Meet Point: Golden Square, London, W1F 9JJ (Exact Location: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/e6LhQTWnXLJVbM97A](https://maps.app.goo.gl/e6LhQTWnXLJVbM97A))
Closest Train/Tube stations: Piccadilly Circus (5 Min Walk) Oxford Circus (10 Min walk)
Start Time: 1:30PM
Finish time: 5:00PM
**\- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \-**
**WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?**
**Last year, more than 118,000 young people approached their local council because they were at risk of homelessness - roughly one person every four minutes.**
The cost of living crisis and rising youth unemployment have pushed even more young people into vulnerable situations and this Christmas, itās estimated that over **23,500 young people will be without a home.**
One of Londonās amazing charities that are help tackling this issue is **[Evolve,](https://www.evolvehousing.org.uk/2025/01/fighting-homelessness-spreading-festive-cheer-the-great-santa-challenge/)** who help over 1,000 young people each year with both housing and support designed to break the cycle of homelessness for good.
Their staff work daily with young Londoners who are rebuilding their lives under incredibly challenging circumstances.
Sadly, demand for their services has never been higher and at Christmas, their already-stretched resources are pushed yet further, and increasingly have to seek external support.
And for the young people themselves - whilst most of the city winds down, the festive period can be a stark and painful reminder of the year past and the challenges theyāre contending with.
And so our Charity Santa Challenge is a small and simple way to bring some joy and the sacks you create will go directly to young people that Evolve work with, and show them **they are not forgotten and that people out there care.**
Social bridge south of the river
Join us for social bridge without the formality of a tournament. Advice on bidding and play Is available to those who are still learning the basics. I sometimes bring along set boards for improvers to work through if they so desire.
The Royal Oak is one of Londonās most traditional pubs, and serves an excellent range of beers and drinks, but the kitchen closes early on a Sunday.
There is a £1 fee (or £5 per year) to cover Meetup fees and we do ask that you spend at least £5 at the bar.
We should be upstairs in the John Harvey room.

December Book Club/White Elephant Book Exchange
Welcome, readers! āļø
Our December read is **_A Quiet Life by Ethan Joella._**
A Quiet Life by Ethan Joella is a tender, character-driven novel that follows three people in a small Pennsylvania town as they each cope with loss and seek connection. Chuck, a widower, struggles to find meaning after his wifeās death; Ella, a young woman, faces the heartbreak of her missing daughter; and Kirsten, a veterinary technician, grieves her father while contemplating her future. Their stories intertwine gently, revealing how grief and hope coexistāand how even small acts of kindness can help people rediscover purpose and peace in the aftermath of tragedy.
Looking forward to discussing with everyone!
At this meeting, our third annual White Elephant book exchange will take place!
If you'd like to participate, bring a gift-wrapped book that you already own. On the gift wrap, write the genre of the book.
We will meet at Zaftig Brewing Co in their event room in the back. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **drinks must be purchased at the bar.**
Happy reading! š
