Between 1974 and 1981, the excavations at Wood Quay and Fishamble Street in Dublin transformed our understanding of Viking and Anglo-Norm an Ireland. Led by Dr Pat Wallace, these groundbreaking digs uncovered the house types, town layout, and waterfronts of medieval Dublin, offering an unprecedented glimpse into the city’s early development. Dr Wallace will reflect on the Wood Quay excavations, where the distinctive dwellings and street patterns of Viking Dublin, along with the waterfront structures of the succeeding Anglo-Norman period, were revealed. Now, just over 50 years since he first began work on the site in 1974, it is a fitting moment to revisit the discoveries—and the often controversial circumstances—in which the excavations took place. Following his success at Wood Quay, Dr Wallace went on to serve as Director of the National Museum of Ireland for 24 years, overseeing major expansions and championing the preservation of Ireland’s cultural heritage. A friendly, beginner-focused dancing lesson for anyone curious to learn Balboa dancing. Study the basics in a relaxed, welcoming environment — no experience or partner required. Come move, meet new people, and enjoy classic swing music while building confidence on the dance floor. Our agenda for January 2026 includes four progression classes for complete beginners on Wednesdays: 1 hour each week starting from January 7th, in the beautiful Pillar Room (top of O'Connell Street, behind The Ambassador, Dublin 1). Let's start February off with a swim in the sea at Seapoint. Wear a wet suit, boots and gloves or simply a swimsuit. Wear warm clothes to change into after the swim and bring a warm drink too. The sea will be cold so don't stay in for too long. Be guided by the experienced swimmers in the group. We are not lifeguards, so everyone is responsible for their own safety. We'll meet at the lifeguard station or in the shelters if it's raining. Some of us will go to a local cafe afterwards. See you soon,

For this event, we’ll help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents, wash dishes and clean surfaces at Fath Mission – Grant Kitchen. We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve those in need.
