**What You'll Build** A fully working Employee Management REST API with: * **CRUD endpoints** (POST, GET, PATCH, DELETE /employees) * **Pagination**, sorting, and filtering on the list endpoint * **Strong runtime validation** via *zod* * A typed, schema-first database layer via *Drizzle ORM* * **Environment-aware configuration** (development / production) * A multi-database PostgreSQL setup orchestrated via *Docker Compose* * A seed script to populate sample data * A **REST Client** app.http file to exercise every endpoint **What You'll Learn** By the end of this workshop you'll be able to: * Scaffold a NestJS application from scratch with `@nestjs/cli`. * Containerize a Node.js API using a multi-stage Dockerfile and *Docker Compose*. * Run PostgreSQL in Docker with auto-created databases via init scripts. * Load environment variables dynamically from `.env.${NODE_ENV}` files. * Wire up *Drizzle ORM* as a global NestJS module with proper lifecycle hooks. * Define a database schema in TypeScript and generate SQL migrations. * Validate request bodies and query params with *zod* using custom decorators (no class-validator). * Implement pagination, sorting, and filtering the right way. * Translate database errors (e.g. unique_violation) into proper HTTP responses (**409 Conflict**). * Write a seed script that works across environments. * Test the API end-to-end using the **VS Code REST Client**. **Prerequisites** Please install before the event: * Node.js : ≥ 22 [Download here](https://nodejs.org) * pnpm: ≥ 9 * `corepack enable && corepack prepare pnpm@latest --activate` * Docker Engine: ≥ 20.10 (With the Compose v2 plugin, `docker compose`, not `docker-compose`) * Git: latest [Download here](https://git-scm.com) * VS Code: latest [Download here](https://code.visualstudio.com) * VS Code extensions: * REST Client, ESLint, Prettier A working internet connection is required to download Docker images and npm packages.

This meetup is for beginner players that were not able to attend the original Meetup back on April 8th. Players will be building their investigators for the first scenario. No need to bring anything with you. I have all the supplies you will need. We will meet at Kaldi's Social House at 3100 10th Street N. Arlington. Start at the old train depot. After the run, we'll meet at Mile 20 for a drink! Run starts at 6:45 pm we will head toward Sterling tonight. Run at your own pace out and back. 2 mile runners turn around at Crestview Drive. 3 mile runners turn around at Tamarack Court. 3.5 & 4 - No cross streets in this stretch. You're on your own. :-) 5 mile runners - turn around at Sterling Blvd.

Run starts promptly at 9:45 am and follows a 1.5 mile loop around the lake. Do however many loops you like! Run at your own pace. After the run, we'll meet at the Brew House for a beer or coffee and BREAKFAST pretzels! Those cannot be anything but delicious. See you there.

Join the RunDMV crew every Thursday night at **6:30pm** outside **Caboose Brewing Co.** in Vienna (520 Mill St. NE). We hit the W&OD Trail right behind the brewery for a **40-minute out-and-back run/walk**—go at your own pace, and when you hit 20 minutes, just turn around so we all finish together. No matter if you’re walking, jogging, or pushing the pace, you’ll have company out there. Each week we switch directions (east one week, west the next) to keep things fresh. After the run, we stick around for food and drinks at Caboose—because half the fun of run club is hanging out afterward. 🍻

Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy nature! We meet Saturdays at 10am, by the bike racks and benches 150 feet in front of BUBBLES Hair Salon in Reston, leaving no later than 10:05. Every week we'll walk the Green Trail to Lake Anne Plaza (\~1 mile), pause there for 5-10 minutes (water, bio, and from April-Nov a Farmer's Market), then circle the lake (2 miles) before returning to our starting point. It's roughly 3.5 miles and takes about an hour and a half. Afterwards, some members will often head to a local restaurant to refuel and relax before tackling the rest of the day. This event is open to all ages and fitness levels, and both friends and dogs are always welcome! We recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water bottle, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll always walk, rain or shine. We’re still working to get more people into these Meetups, but our goal is to give PlayYourCourt members a few social tennis outings each week in addition to your practice sessions and Challenge League matches. These Meetups are co-ed, super laid back, and all skill levels are welcome.
