Monday Cycling from Vienna CC
Easy cycling from Vienna Community Center to Reston and Back. Will vary based on the feels and how things go. Feel free to go at your own pace and return back. Most suited for beginners. Being water, electrolytes etc. Air your tires, tune up and you're all set!
Parking should be plenty. Find me wearing a black helmet, green Tshirt and say hi to me and everyone. We are all new and trying to get to know each other.
We usually get there by 6:15 and start by 6:30. Let's make the best of this perfect weather and have some fun!
Volunteer Night @ The Warehouse
Volunteer with us refurbishing donated bicycles to help us get them back out in the community! This event is open to both new and existing volunteers. No mechanical experience is necessary.
Note: The warehouse location is in the alley behind 1502 Mt Vernon Ave. Enter through the gray door next to a roll-down garage door. If you drive to the location, be sure to park in the street, not in the alleys or parking lots surrounding the warehouse. And wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty with bicycle grease!
Please be aware that volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to accompany them to their first volunteer experience and sign a liability waiver, while volunteers under 16 need a parent or guardian to accompany them at all times while volunteering with Vélocity.
Volunteers Only Night
We will be open ONLY for volunteers who want to work on our donated bicycles OR if you have your own bike to work on.
Everyone else will be turned away. Sorry but we want to reserve this time for fixing up bikes for our various upcoming community programs. Some help and guidance will be offered but be prepared to work mostly on your own.
We want to give time back to all our hard-working volunteers who have been so essential.

Handy Bikes | Beginners' No Drop Ride
Meet in the parking lot of the Handy Bikes Service Center.
At the start of each ride, we'll go over introductions to have a sense of participants' cycling experience.
Over the course of our rides, we'll address the following:
group riding dynamics;
safety (ABC check & trail hazards); gear shifting;
hill climbing;
audible and hand communication within the group, with other trail users, and automobile drivers;
what to bring on each ride; etc...
Bring your questions, water & a snack.
When it starts getting dark earlier, we'll need lights as well.
Helmets a MUST.
If you can, and especially if you've had issues with your bike, come a bit early to have it looked at ahead of the ride.
PS - all levels are welcome to join, however, be mindful that if you are an experienced rider, please be prepared to ride at the pace of the newest rider in the group.
Each week, depending on who's in attendance, and participants' riding ability/comfort level, we may do skills practice as a group in the parking lot or at the west end of Wheeler Ave. Once everyone is comfortable, we'll go for a ride on local trails and neighborhood streets and finish back at the shop.
Happy Pedaling !!

About the Jones Point Lighthouse
The Jones Point Lighthouse is one of the last riverine lighthouses in the country and the only one still standing in the Chesapeake Bay area. Today it is the focal point of Jones Point Park and a clue to the area's history as a busy commercial center and naval base.

**About the Woodrow Wilson Bridge**
The Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge is a bascule bridge that spans the Potomac River between the independent city of Alexandria, Virginia, and Oxon Hill in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The bridge is named for the 28th President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924), a native of Staunton, Virginia. While he was President, Wilson reportedly spent an average of two hours a day riding in his automobile to relax or to "loosen his mind from the problems before him." President Wilson was an advocate of automobile and highway improvements in the United States. In 1916, he said, "My interest in good roads is...to bind communities together and open their intercourse so that it will flow with absolute freedom and facility".

**About George Washington's Distillery**
In 1799, George Washington's distillery produced nearly 11,000 gallons, making it one of the largest whiskey distilleries in America.
Today, a faithfully reconstructed working distillery produces small-batch spirits on-site and is open to visitors from April - October.

**About Mount Vernon**
The Mansion at George Washington's Mount Vernon is one of the most iconic 18th-century homes in America. In 1734, when George Washington was only two years old, his father had built the core of what became Washington's Mansion. The Mansion is ten times the size of the average home in colonial Virginia.

The group stops a few times for slower riders to catch up.
Our bikes will always be in our sight. No additional locks are required to keep your bike safe on this trip.
For the E-bike Lovers group to be successful, we need to grow our membership carefully. Please feel free to invite other E-bike lovers, spread the word, and let's have fun.
As usual, non-assisted bikers are most welcome.

Relaxed Bike Ride in DC and Arlington
This is the second time I have rescheduled this bike ride due to expected or actual bad weather. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for decent weather on July 11!
We are fortunate to have a good network of bicycle paths and bicycle-friendly streets in the DC area. Find out how easy it can be to get around on a bike. This will be a relaxed ride of approximately 19 miles through Arlington and DC. Don't be intimiated by that mileage. You'd be surprised how quickly you can cover 19 miles on a bike. The terrain will be mostly flat with a very gradual climb along the W&OD and Bluemont trails. I intend for our group to stay together throughout the ride so you won't need to bother with a cue sheet or navigation device or worry about being "dropped." You can [click on this link ](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/55703716?privacy_code=PcKMWNH6M61rHBOEtssadbj6ShtSIZKj)if you want to see a map of our route and the elevation profile.
We'll meet at the Pentagon City (not Pentagon) Metro station and depart promptly at 10 AM. Wear a helmet, bring a water bottle, and be prepared to pay Adventuring's usual $5 trip fee. There will be an option for lunch or a snack at one of the nearby eateries after the ride if anyone is interested.

It's a classic ride from Shirlington west on the W&OD as we head to Godfrey's bakery \~7 miles out on Broad Street in Falls Church. Here we will enjoy a nice brunch. There are tables outside where we can also park our bikes. The good news (after riding uphill all the way to Godfrey's) is that the hardest part of the ride is over. It is mostly downhill all the way back to Shirlington.
