Tips to become a 100X developer with Dark Factory and Compound Engineering
**Tips and practical aspects to become a 100× developer with Dark Factory and Compound Engineering**
A one-hour session on the Pier07 terrace — practical tips on Dark Factory and Compound Engineering, the evening before the full workshop.
**What this session is**
We are planning a focused, hands-on Schwartz edition for a small group. Before we lock the format, we need to know who is interested — please spread the word within your team and tell us if you would like to join.
Practical tips on becoming a 100× developer with agentic workflows
Dark Factory and Compound Engineering — what works in real teams
Dark Factory & Compound Engineering
Two ideas behind this session — in plain terms.
**Dark Factory**
Agents run the software lifecycle behind deterministic gates — specs, builds, tests, and review loops — while you steer intent, rules, and verification instead of every line of code.
**Compound Engineering**
Each cycle makes the next one easier: you capture learnings in instruction files, evaluators, and gates so the system gets measurably smarter — not more chaotic — every time agents run.

To encourage circular economy - **Bring your pre-loved items** like a book, a mug, or a painting with you and give your items an opportunity **to find a new home.** They will be laid out on a table during the mid-event break for everyone to see and pick! (No clothing please, but accessories are more than welcome) What a great way to reduce waste!
This month, we will unpack the terms '**Cleantech', 'Greentech'** and '**Climate tech**', discuss what they represent, how much money goes into developing such technologies, why governments and businesses want to show you that they have a stamp of approval, and why the climate change challenge remains unresolved, despite all the tech out there. We'll also discuss what type of cleantech solutions you should be aware of in Spain, particularly in Barcelona, so you can be well-informed when engaging our political actors.
Our speaker, **Alexander Crutchfield** is a researcher and journalist focused on climate, energy, and sustainability. His work spans investigative reporting, policy research, and strategic analysis for public and private outlets such as The Energy Pioneer, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the Spanish Royal Institute of European Studies, etc.

🎤 **Talks:**
* **“Build Applications that Welcome Change”** Alexander M. Turek
Software changes. Dependencies evolve. New requirements appear. A Symfony application that can adapt to these shifts without major disruption gains a powerful long-term advantage.
This talk explores architectural choices that allow core business logic to remain stable while the surrounding technology continues to evolve, leading to calmer upgrades, safer refactoring, and systems built for the long run.
Change is inevitable. Pain doesn’t have to be.

🍺 Agentic Coding Meetup — Devs & Drinks
No slides. No speaker. No agenda. Just developers talking shop over a cold one.
This is an informal gathering for engineers, founders, and builders who are deep in the agentic coding trenches — using tools like Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, OpenCode, or rolling their own agent pipelines. Come swap what's actually working, what blew up in production, and what you're excited about right now.
We'll be at Barcelona, and the format is simple: show up, grab a drink, and share what you know. Bring a laptop if you want to show something, but it's not required.
WhatsApp Group: [https://chat.whatsapp.com/GVS0bHMPIzID3Ch9lt6YsU?mode=gi_t](https://chat.whatsapp.com/GVS0bHMPIzID3Ch9lt6YsU?mode=gi_t)
**What we talk about (but not limited to):**
\*Agentic coding workflows and tooling
* Prompt engineering & context engineering in practice
\*Multi-agent architectures and orchestration
* AI-native product building
\*What's broken in the ecosystem and how you're working around it
**Who should come:** Developers, technical founders, and AI engineers who build with (or on top of) LLMs. All levels welcome — senior devs with war stories and curious beginners both make the conversation better.
**Format:** Open conversation, round-table style. Everyone teaches, everyone learns.

Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code - Alan Barber
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge.
**Abstract**
*Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code*
Visual Studio Code is one of the most widely used development environments today, and much of its flexibility comes from its extension ecosystem. Extensions allow developers to customize the editor with new features, integrations, and workflow improvements tailored to their needs.
In this session, we’ll cover what extensions are and the different types available, including full extensions written in TypeScript or JavaScript, along with lighter-weight extensions such as color themes, language packs, language support, code snippets, and keymaps. We’ll also look at practical reasons a developer might create an extension, from automating repetitive tasks to adding custom tooling.
The session includes a hands-on walkthrough of creating a new extension, testing it locally, and understanding the basic project structure. We’ll close with a brief overview of how extensions are packaged and published to the Visual Studio Marketplace and other distribution options.

AI Agents 101: How to Make ChatGPT Do Actual Work
Most people still use AI like a search box: type one question, get one answer, repeat.
But the next step is AI agents: systems that can take a goal, break it into steps, use tools, remember context, and produce useful work for a human to review.
In this beginner-friendly session, we’ll demystify what AI agents actually are — without hype or jargon. We’ll walk through practical examples of how agents can help with research, planning, writing, coding, operations, and personal productivity.
We’ll cover:
* What makes an AI “agent” instead of just a chatbot
* How agents break tasks into steps
* Where agents are genuinely useful today
* Where they fail, hallucinate, or need human review
* How to design simple AI workflows for your own work
* A live demo of an AI agent-style workflow from start to finish
No coding experience required. This is for anyone who wants to understand where AI tools are going and how to use them more effectively right now.
LOGISTICS AND PARKING:
The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks!
The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
