AI provides an incredible opportunity for innovation and disruption, but there's a problem. The data that powers AI is built for humans, and Agents require a new stack - one that is open, interoperable, and free from vendor lock-in. The principles of open data infrastructure enable humans and their agents to create powerful workflows without vendor lock-in. **19:40** đŸŽ™ïž **"AI Observability in Grafana: Instrument, Explore, and Evaluate Your AI Agents"**, [Sonia Aguilar](https://www.linkedin.com/in/sonia-aguilar-01378512a/) \- Staff Software Engineer at [Grafana Labs](https://grafana.com/). AI agents are shipping to production faster than ever — but how do you know they're working correctly? In this session, we'll walk through AI Observability in Grafana: how to instrument your agents with a few lines of code, explore conversations and multi-agent pipelines, track cost and performance, set up online evaluations to continuously monitor quality, and configure guards to catch issues before they reach the model. **20:10 - 21:00**: Networking & Drinks đŸ»đŸ• See you there 👋 Grafana & Friends Barcelona

Building Inclusive AI Experiences with Sign Language and GenAI
What if your phone could read your hands the way it reads your taps? Imagine making the gesture for weather and instantly hearing today's forecast, or using the sign for traffic to learn whether the road is clear - all without a keystroke. By pairing real-time gesture recognition with generative AI, we unlock a playful, inclusive interface for everyone. 21st BcnRust Meetup
21st BcnRust Meetup
We’re thrilled to announce the next edition of the BcnRust Meetup, this time hosted by **[Protofy](https://protofy.xyz/)**! Join us for an evening exploring two very different but equally ambitious Rust projects: an AI-native virtual machine that rethinks how code is executed, and a distributed task queue built as a hands-on journey into async Rust, concurrency, and fault-tolerant systems. Whether you're interested in language runtimes, AI agents, distributed systems, or simply seeing how Rust enables bold ideas, this meetup is for you. **Driver: An Agentic VM in Rust** by [Cristian Sánchez](https://www.linkedin.com/in/cr3at0r/) Most virtual machines are deterministic by design. LLMs break that. But what if AI wasn't an external API on top, but a native execution primitive inside the VM itself? Driver is a Rust VM where AI is a first-class execution primitive. The stdlib is aware of whether it's being invoked by deterministic bytecode or by an LLM-generated action and behaves accordingly. We'll cover the practical decisions behind the core VM, and the toolkit around it. **Aether: Learning Async Rust by building a Distributed Task Queue** by [Arnau Berenguer](https://www.linkedin.com/in/arnau-berenguer-jimenez/) Building a distributed system is a great way to learn async Rust because you run into all the hard parts for real. In this talk I'll walk through Aether, a personal project of a task queue that lets you submit and run Python scripts on a cluster from a CLI. We'll cover the system architecture, how to handle multiple concurrent tasks sharing state, how to handle loss of connection, and propagating cancellation signals on concurrent tasks over the network. Along the way we'll see the honest lessons learned and what makes async Rust hard but fun. **Why Attend?** * Explore advanced Rust applications, from AI-native runtimes to distributed infrastructure. * Learn practical lessons about virtual machine design, async programming, concurrency, and fault tolerance. * Discover how experienced Rust developers approach complex systems and architectural trade-offs. * Connect with Barcelona's Rust community and exchange ideas with fellow engineers, makers, and enthusiasts. * Get inspired by real-world projects that push Rust beyond the usual web services and CLI tools. Whether you're a Rust beginner curious about what's possible, or a seasoned developer looking to dive deeper into systems programming, you'll leave with new ideas, technical insights, and plenty to discuss. Let’s build, learn, and geek out over Rust together! 🩀 **Streaming**: We will stream it via YouTube so you can also subscribe to our [YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/@bcnrust) to get notified when we go live.

Battle of the personal agents
Battle of the personal agents
Join the Columbus AI community for a special event. **Battle of the Personal Agents** is your chance to see what people are actually building with AI agents and personal automation systems. Whether you’re running OpenClaw, Hermes, or a completely custom solution, bring your agent and show the community how it works. We’re interested in real-world implementations: the problems your agent solves, how you use it day-to-day, how it’s hosted and managed, how you built it, and why you’ve chosen to keep using it. Live demonstrations are encouraged, so be prepared to show your code, architecture, workflows, and your agent performing real tasks. This is less about polished presentations and more about sharing practical experience, comparing approaches, and learning from one another. If you’d like to present, please contact Chris Slee (via meetup) before the event so we can allocate enough time for everyone’s demonstrations. Come ready to show what you’ve built, discover what others are doing, and maybe find a few ideas worth taking home. Whether you’re deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.
