Filmonik Meetup and screening #126
Filmonik Meetup and screening #126
Filmonik Melbourne is an open filmmaking group with monthly open-screen screenings like an open-mic for films. Meet at Eclipse on Tuesday March 24th for our 126th screening and it's our proven mix of immediate, spontaneous, crafty, fun, inventive and weird short films. You should expect comedies, a bit of drama, animation maybe, there's generally one suspense/thriller, one music video, some fun trash, horror or documentary but sometimes we don't even know what will be playing. Films are generally under 5 minutes to keep things fresh and fun, followed by a quick QA with the director to hear about the process. Enjoy the networking, meet the artisans, recruit for your next short film, hang out, **DETAILS:** Admission $13+fees = $13.83. https://events.humanitix.com/filmonik-126-open-screen-short-films-screening Tickets at the door if still available ($15 cash exact change, or Square) FILMS UNRATED (18+ by default). Content may offend. TUESDAY MARCH 24 at Eclipse Cinema 32 Wellington Street, Collingwood. This is an accessible venue, DDA-compliant. 6pm start. Please arrive in advance so we can start at 6:15pm at the latest. Eclipse is Licensed to serve a range of quality wines & craft beers and has homemade Choc Tops, popcorn or sweets. **FILMMAKERS:** Our open-screen get pretty popular these days so the best practice is submitting in advance at [filmonik.com.au/submit-your-film](https://www.filmonik.com.au/submit-your-film) or [info@filmonik.com.au](mailto:info@filmonik.com.au) so we can reserve you a spot in the program. Films under 5-minutes get close-to-automatic entry, and anything over may get held up until there's a quiet month. A quick QA with the host follows each film. Organize your own premiere with us or run a cheeky pre-premiere of your festival film. Guidelines here: [filmonik.com.au/how-to-screen](https://www.filmonik.com.au/how-to-screen). Filmonik is part of the worldwide Kino movement active in 30+ cities around the world since 1999.
Board Game Social Hangout - NeuroSparks x NeuroDisco Collab!
Board Game Social Hangout - NeuroSparks x NeuroDisco Collab!
Hi all, us at NeuroSparks and our friends over at NeuroDisco are having our first board game collab event! Whether you're new to boardgames, or an experienced player, this could be a great way to meet like-minded people and have some fun too. **The venue:** Drop in at Gameology from 12pm onwards, there will be a wide range of board games for you to grab and play, but you can also bring a board game from home if you'd like. Gameology is also a games store, so feel free to browse what they have available or chat to the friendly staff for help or questions at any time. The board games room where we’ll be hanging out in is on the left as you enter the store and has air conditioning. It also has a limited drink selection, however you’re free to bring food from outside to enjoy in between playing. The cafe across the road called Lux Foundry, or Ima Pantry around the corner are particularly good! But please be mindful of avoiding getting either the venue's or other attendee's games dirty. Additionally, while use of the space and games are free, a gold coin donation would be appreciated! This goes towards HeartKids, which is the charity Gameology is currently supporting. They also rotate through supporting different charities every month. While a donation is not compulsory, it is greatly appreciated in getting a little more community love and support. **Location:** There is very limited parking at the front of the store as well as in the surrounding area. However, the venue is close to public transport. The closest train station is Anstey station on the Upfield lane and the number 19 tram on Sydney road. There is also the number 508/509 bus line, with the closest stop being on the corner of Sydney road and Blyth street. The venue will also be closing at 5. We'd love to see you all there and if the event goes well this could possibly become a regular event! **PS:** If you have any questions about this event, feel free to message either myself or Ki. The event is open to all neurodivergent people and anyone who values a friendly, inclusive space. Many attendees come on their own, so if you’re feeling a bit hesitant, know you’ll be in good company and warmly welcomed. If at any point you have concerns or feel uncomfortable about any group member, please notify one of the organisers. **Disclaimer & Safety Notice** By attending this Meetup, you agree: • Participation is voluntary and at your own risk. • Organisers are community volunteers, not medical or professional providers. • You are responsible for your own safety, choices, and belongings. • Organisers are not liable for injury, loss, or damage at any time. • If you have health or access needs, please make your own arrangements. • In an emergency, call 000 immediately. **AI, Product & What Actually Matters with Dr. Marily Nika** LTP Events is coming to Melbourne — and this one is something special. For one night only, we’re bringing one of the world’s most influential AI Product Leaders to our community. Based in Silicon Valley, Dr. Marily Nika is an award-winning GenAI Product Leader, bestselling author, Harvard Fellow, TED AI / TEDx speaker, and the creator of Maven’s first and top-rated AI PM Certification. Together, they’ll explore what it really means to build AI-powered products today: * Where the hype ends and hard decisions begin * How GenAI is reshaping the role of product leaders * What separates AI experiments from real impact * And how to think clearly when the technology is moving faster than your roadmap Expect thoughtful discussion, practical insights, and honest reflections from someone shaping the global AI product conversation in real time. Surrounding the conversation is what LTP does best: a relaxed, no-pressure space to connect with fellow product leaders, builders, and thinkers navigating the same questions. Just smart people, meaningful dialogue, and conversations that continue long after the chat ends. **Evening timeline** 5.30 – 6.00pm: Arrive, grab a drink, and connect 6.00 – 6.40pm: Fireside chat with Dr. Marily Nika plus Q&A 6.40 – 7.30pm: Networking, conversation, and connection Hosted at the great Easygo space, we’ll have light food and drinks covered — all we ask is that you bring your curiosity and good energy. Plus! Everyone who attends goes into the draw to win 2 free tickets to LTP 2026. Simply show up, connect, and you could be heading to Australia’s best product conference in May! This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of the most respected voices in AI product — without flying to Silicon Valley. Please RSVP if you are keen to attend and they will be capped but don’t stress, late cancellations are okay. We can’t wait to host you for this one.

Filmonik Kino-Kabaret 2026 — A 72-hour filmmaking challenge
Filmonik Kino-Kabaret 2026 — A 72-hour filmmaking challenge
The Filmonik Kino-Kabaret is our yearly all-you-can-film buffet of spontaneous creativity, where participants collaborate on as many short films as they can, in a shared production hub called the Kinolab, at Balam Balam Place in Brunswick. This 72+hour jam-session of filmmaking is followed by the premiere screening party of all short films that have been produced. It's fun, it's epic, it's chaotic, it's challenging, you meet heaps of new people and get attached on-the-spot to many productions just by hanging out in the hub. We're fiercely non-competitive so it's a celebration of films of all styles and scope, not a competition with creative restrictions. No teams set are to be set in advance, and writers and directors come to the Friday production meeting with a script ready to go or can improvise all weekend with the other participants. The magic should happen with the cast and crew participating and present in the hub. Short films can get written, shot and edited all in and around the hub. It's not a requirement but it's how you can learn more, challenge yourself, get help when you need it, and hop on anyone else's project to try something new. **Check out the 2025 Kino-Kabaret recap video for the vibes and venue** [https://youtu.be/w0TJ4iObWsU?si=QAm2Gbxs1HRHrJ9g](https://youtu.be/w0TJ4iObWsU?si=QAm2Gbxs1HRHrJ9g) **Registration** Tickets at [https://events.humanitix.com/filmonik-kino-kabaret-2026-a-72-hour-filmmaking-challenge](https://events.humanitix.com/filmonik-kino-kabaret-2026-a-72-hour-filmmaking-challenge) One ticket is for Directors for a spot in the screening for a film under 5 minutes and the other ticket for all other participants: cast, crew and any other film artisan participating in as many projects as they can. Every ticket includes: \- Access to our collaborative space and studio at Balam Balam Place from the evening of Friday March 27 to Monday March 30 \(Balam Balam Place opening hours apply\)\. \- Entry to the Tuesday March 31 premiere short film screening at Howler\. How the mind works
How the mind works
The optimum computing machine is a subject many of us have studied. If you were building one how would you design it? First the computer should be able to compute with perfect accuracy on any problem in the universe and produce answers which were always and invariably right. Second the computer would have to be swift, working much more quickly than the problem and process could be vocally articulated. Third the computer would have to be able to handle large numbers of variables and large numbers of problems simultaneously. Forth, the computer would have to be able to evaluate its own data and there would have to remain available within it not only a record of its former conclusions but the evaluations leading to those conclusions. Fifth, the computer would have to be served by a memory bank of nearly infinite capacity and would have to be available to the analytical portion of the computer in the smallest fractions of a second. Sixth, the computer would have to be able to rearrange former conclusions or alter them in the light of new experience. Seventh, the computer would need no exterior director, but would be entirely self determined about its programing guided only by the necessity –value of the solution which it itself would determine. Eight the computer should be self servicing and self arming against present and future damage and would be able to estimate future damage. Ninth the computer should be served by perception by which it could determine necessity –value. Tenth ,the memory bank should store perceptions as perceived ,consecutive with time received with the smallest possible time divisions between perception .It would then store in color-Visio (moving),tone audio (flowing),odor ,tactile and self sensation ,all of them cross –coordinated . Eleventh, for the purposes of solutions, it would have to be able to create new situations and imagine new perceptions hitherto not perceived and should be able to conceive these to itself in terms of tone –audio ,color-visio ,odor, tactile, and self sensation –and should be able to file anything so conceived as imagined ,labeled “memories” Twelfth, the entire machine should be portable. It might be somewhat astonishing at first to conceive such a computer .But the fact is, the machine is in existence .There are billions of them in use today and many ,many more billions have been made and used in the past . In fact you’ve got one .for we are dealing with the human mind. L.RON .HUBBARD Do you want to learn how the mind works? Then do not miss this meetup. RSVP now !!

**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 **Abstract** Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively. This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. We’ll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from server‑driven controls, and why they’re becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether you’re maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, you’ll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standards‑based way. **YouTube Link** TBA

Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to “pin the blame” on someone or something. If you don’t find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse. Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well. Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, don’t know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe you’ve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship. Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action? Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships! Break free from self imposed limitations Here we will discuss: • How to “erase” the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isn’t always repeating past mistakes. • Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you? • Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it? • Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love? • Fights & arguments - what's really behind them? • What underlies “corrosive criticism” or the need to invalidate self or others? • How one can stably change one’s outlook on life so they can affect positive change? • Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them? • How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about? • How to enhance one’s own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or one’s career? Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general. Learn where painful experiences are “stored” and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can “erase” those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become “toxic” personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you won’t be tripped up trusting the wrong person. Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life. We look forward to having you join us! This class is sponsored by the Dianetics & Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.
How LLMs Like ChatGPT Actually Work and How to Build With Them
How LLMs Like ChatGPT Actually Work and How to Build With Them
**First meetup of the Columbus AI Engineering group.** We’ll kick things off with a practical, beginner-friendly discussion on: **How LLMs like ChatGPT actually work — and how to build real applications with them.** We’ll cover: * what’s actually happening under the hood (at a high level) * why LLMs behave the way they do (hallucinations, prompt sensitivity, etc.) * how people are building real systems with them today * where things break in practice This will be a **short, informal talk (\~15–20 min)** followed by open discussion and Q&A. Whether you’re an engineer, builder, or just curious about how modern AI systems work, you’re welcome to join. No slides, no fluff — just real conversation about real systems. We’ll hang out afterward and get to know each other.
