Languages Virtual Exchange [FREE BUT RSVP REQUIRED ON EVENTBRITE]
To secure your spot, purchase your ticket from the Eventbrite link (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/languages-virtual-exchange-tickets-162849488203). RSVPing only on the Meetup page, doesn't allow you to attend the Event.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Let us meet up, online for a language exchange. It works the same as the live one, except we don't get to meet face-to-face.
We will create different and private breakout rooms for all represented languages and we will assign attendees accordingly. If you are a polyglot, you could roam around from breakout room to breakout room.
HOW IT WORKS :
1. Sign up on Eventbrite for FREE indicating your native languages and your target languages. So that we will direct you to your respective groups.
2. When you purchase a FREE ticket, you will be emailed the Event ID and Password, on the date of the event.
3. So many languages would be represented and you can hop-on and hop-off to different language breakout rooms.
4. As we try to make it a live event, you can't turn off your camera.
5. We have limited spots and RSVP at your earliest convenience.
Feel free to bring your own beverage (alcoholic/non-alcoholic).
All languages are welcome! However we don't guarantee the availability of a partner in that particular language, you would like to exchange.
Rules to abide :
1. When you log in, we will direct you to your respective breakout room.
2. Be respectful to your counterparts and give them a chance to exchange with others as well.
3. We all are native speakers of one or two languages and be willing to help others and try to accommodate as much as possible.
4. If you don't speak the other person's required language, LEAVE THEM ALONE.
5. Rude or aggressive members are removed from the group at an organizers discretion.
6. Most of our members complained about people writing in the comment box. Since it sends notification to all attendees. If you have any questions, send a message to the organizers. Don't write in the comment box.
7. We have ZERO TOLERANCE for solicitation. We don't allow anyone to run their own agenda at the Event. If you are interested to promote/sponsor/collaborate; contact us via (info@merevents.com).
8. Don't be shy of your local languages. We have diplomates assigned to different countries, who would love to practice your languages.

Horse by Geraldine Brooks
1850s Kentucky, 1950s NY, and 2019 Wash DC. “A fascinating saga based on the famous 19th-century racehorse -Publishers Weekly. Smithsonian scientists find themselves unexpectedly connected through their shared interest in the horse—one studying the stallion’s bones for clues to his power and endurance, the other uncovering the lost history of the unsung Black horsemen who were critical to his racing success. “Brooks makes a masterly case for the power of retelling.” —NYTimes. “There’s something bordering on the supernatural about Brooks. She seems able to time travel. Boston Globe. (401 pgs)

Wildflowers on Earth Day at Lake Accotink (Rating: D)
*You must read the following NVHC Sign-in Sheet Statement/Liability Disclaimer, [https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf](https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf) and then answer the question that you will see when you RSVP with "I accept" to be permitted on the hike.*
Distance: 3.5 miles
Elevation change: about 100'
Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22! How far have we come since the first Earth Day in 1970? Join us at the 500-acre Lake Accotink Park, a surprising retreat in the middle of suburban Fairfax County. We'll walk partly on and partly off the main trail and along the lake shore on natural surface trails (about 4 miles total). We'll walk by an active eagle nest that is visible from the trail, unless the leaves are out. We may see the eagles flying around the lake. We'll find a variety of native plants, including the native azalea. **We meet at the parking lot by the dam**, then hike on natural surface side trails that most park visitors don’t know about. I'm also a naturalist, so we will stop occasionally to look at spring wildflowers. Some of the terrain is hillier than the main trail around the lake, with an elevation change of about 100 feet from lowest to highest, with many short but steep hills that make for a good workout for a suburban location. The route has small rocks, roots, and a couple of small stream crossings and is not suitable for people with difficulty walking. Pace is about 2 mph average with occasional short stops for checking out nature and discussing Earth Day.
Restroom: By the pavilion (about a 5-minute walk from hike start)
No dogs, please
Park Entry Fee: NONE
[Park map](https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/sites/parks/files/Assets/documents/waterfront/lakeaccotink/lake-accotink-brochure-map.pdf)
* NOTE: Alternate directions if you are coming to the Park from the direction of Tysons Corner on 495 (Beltway): You may enter the Park at an entrance on Heming Ave. From I-495, take Exit 54 East onto Braddock Road (east). From Braddock Road, turn right onto Heming Ave., then right into the parking lot for Lake Accotink Park. HOWEVER, you cannot drive from that parking lot to the hike starting place. The two parking lots are connected by a paved walkway through the Park. It's a short walk down the hill to the lake (passing restrooms at pavilion), and then follow road to the dam. Please allow 10 extra minutes once you park to find your way and to walk to the dam if you arrive that way.

Tim's Non-Surprise B-DAY Extravaganza at Plaza Oaxaca in Rockville
Hey all, this year we are returning to a favorite spot to once again celebrate Chapter Two's very own, Tim. As you can see from the photo, Tim is a lucky man and it may seem sometimes like his birthday is every day, but his real one is coming up, and we are going to party at his favorite taco joint, this side of Taco Bell.
So come join us the evening of Sat, April 25th at Plaza Oaxaca Rockville to raise a glass to Tim (or at least a taco shell). We will be at the high tops near the bar. If Tim's past bdays are an indication, there's likely to be dancing too, until the youngins arrive and shame us off the dance floor (or make memes out of us to share with their friends).
So come one, come all, to wish our favorite seaman (a title Tim would particularly appreciate) our best wishes as he puts another year in the books and grows even wiser.
Lastly, if you don't know Tim, still come for the margaritas, tacos, and great company. Tim will be the one with the mischievous grin trying to convince you to eat the restaurant's grasshopper tacos.

Dinner at Shaw's Tavern (rescheduled)
Hello!
In rescheduling from March, we'll meet up for dinner at Shaw's Tavern. A bunch of us went here when Bella DePaulo came for her book talk a couple of years ago. They have some nice low-key, reasonably priced options: [https://www.shawstavern.com/](https://www.shawstavern.com/) \- I reserved some space on the covered outdoor patio\. Hopefully\, the weather is springy\!
Street parking is free on weekends, but difficult to find. Alternatively, it's an eight-minute walk from the Shaw-Howard U stop on the Yellow/Green Line.
A couple of disclaimers: this is not a "meet market." Many of us desire to become DINKs at some point, while others do not; let's not assume the former for anyone. In the spirit of the overall group, this is inclusive in that regard. But please just come with the intent to have fun and connect with other CFs, not to hook up or partner up. If it happens naturally, awesome. But please don't have that goal in mind. You can bring a guest provided they're single and childfree.
If something comes up and you can't make it, please switch your RSVP to "no" by Friday, 4/24 at 5 p.m. That said, if you've repeatedly signed up and then switched your RSVP to "no," I reserve the right to move you to the waitlist if we have enough people wanting to go.
Reservations are limited to eight people; if anybody wants to make their own reservation so we can have more, let me know, and I'll increase the size.

Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk.
