Wednesday Board Game Night at Your Hobby Place, Alexandria
We're playing board games at Your Hobby Place, a Friendly Local Gaming Store in Old Town Alexandria. Feel free to bring your own games. They also have their own library of games available for play. We start at 6:00, but your group can certainly show up earlier. The store closes at 9:30. Snacks and drinks are available for sale, and several good restaurants are nearby. Free parking on Wythe St. and Columbus St. The store is 1/2 mile east from the Braddock Road Metro station down Wythe St.
Pinochle at Panera Bread in Bethesda
We have taken more than a year off due to the pandemic. Our old favorite cafe in Bethesda is now closed so lets try the Panera Bread down the street on Wisconsin Ave. Please come and join us for some double deck pinochle, assuming (of course) that you have been inoculated for Covid-19 and you are willing to follow the current guidelines of the business on mask wearing.
We will start the first game about 6 pm. We play 300 point games so the second game will likely start just after 7 pm, and we will rotate tables if we have more than 4 players. Card players of all level are welcome. We play primarily 4-handed double deck Pinochle but other variants are have been tried on occasion. Games go from 6 pm until Panera closes, which currently is 9 pm.
This event is scheduled to repeat every other Wednesday night. Please don't wait until the last minute to RSVP.
Post-Valentine's Day White Elephant Pick-Your-Poison!
We're doing a "White Elephant"-style spin on Pick-Your-Poison, a few days after Valentine's Day!
Two of your packs will be whatever you choose, but ONE will be from a pool of packs that I encourage attendees to bring (I'll have some of my own whipped up ahead of time to make sure we'll have enough, just in case). The pack can be any 15 cards YOU choose to bring--could be 15 Storm Crows, 15 Conspiracies, or 15 Mythic Rares, the choice is yours!
Also, here's a spreadsheet of cards [needed for my cubes](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uanQ4tfY_ygH_wAFe9krzo1Swbu4Ax8Ao204nPPymIA/edit?usp=sharing) for donation/trade! Feel free to show up as early as 5:40 for Jumpstart or Planechase Commander.
**Here's how PYP draft works:**
I have dozens of sets, including just about every "normal" set printed since Battle for Zendikar, and some older/odder ones like M12, Dark Ascension, and Conspiracy 1 and 2. I've also got deluxe packs: New Phyrexia, Shards of Alara, Iconic Masters, and Ravnica Remastered, to name a few. You choose three different packs (for variety's sake, only one of those packs can be from the last 3 sets) and we all sit down and draft with what we've chosen. The price varies based on what you pick (on average it's $18, which would cover three normal packs and $6 prize support). Prizes are pack-per-win in whatever's handy.

Blackout Phone Free Hangout at Hush Harbor DC (Black Owned!)
Join Blackout as we visit Hush Harbor on DC's H Street Corridor as we have a night of convo, games, and retro vibes. It's a Black-owned cocktail bar focusing on interesting drinks and inspiring connections.
If you're not familiar with Hush Harbor, the concept is that it is a phone free cocktail bar. They put your phone in one of those cases but you can still access it in a pinch. More info: https://hushharbor.co/#info
Remember when we could hold conversations without needing to refer to cellphones? House phones? Numbers on napkins? Remembering people's names? Printing out MapQuest directions? We're going back to that time.
We'll have some conversational topics and games that we'll play as we get to know each other.
Hold your spot by sending $5 via CashApp ($Blackoutbaltimore). This'll go towards the Polaroid film--yep, it's a throwback kind of night. And, yes, I'm actually bringing a Polaroid for the group shots.
Can't wait to see you there!

**TALK ABSTRACT:**
AI is all the hype these days; however, despite (or maybe because of) the excitement around it, a high percentage of AI projects fail. Projects that are over budget, delayed, or that fail to scale past the POC phase are very common. In many of these scenarios, choosing the right approach can be as critical as the solution itself. Should you build a tailored machine learning model, leverage the power of large language models (LLMs), or integrate with AI copilots? Each option has unique strengths, trade-offs, and resource requirements, and the key to success lies in aligning your choice with your business goals and technical constraints.
In this talk, we will go beyond the basic concepts and definitions to provide a practical guide that allows attendees to navigate these decisions through real-world case studies. We will examine scenarios in which different AI paradigms were chosen, discuss the factors that influenced those decisions, and outline the process for evaluating needs, constraints, and outcomes. From assessing data availability and team expertise to balancing cost and scalability, you'll gain insights into the critical considerations that guide the selection process.
By the end of this session, youโll have a clear process for determining whether machine learning, LLMs, or copilots are best suited to your AI challenges and understand the resources and strategies needed to bring your chosen solution to life. This talk is ideal for decision-makers, technical leads, and innovators seeking to demystify AI implementation and maximize the impact of their investments.

For this event, weโll help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents, wash dishes and clean surfaces at Fath Mission โ Grant Kitchen. If something unavoidable comes up, please update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With very few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve.
THANK YOU: This CMG Gives Back event provides an opportunity for YOU to get involved in helping others! Benefits go well beyond the help we give to others. Volunteering provides a wide range of personal benefits, including positive effects on mental and physical health, reduced stress/depression/anxiety, increased happiness and improved purpose, life-satisfaction and personal well-being! Plus, the opportunity to get involved, connect with others and help those in need.
PARTNER AGENCY: This event is hosted by Lutheran Social Services (LSS), which serves thousands of people in need each day in 27 Ohio counties by addressing the four core societal issues of food, shelter, safety and healing. LSS offers food through the LSS Food Pantries, housing and supportive services through LSS Faith Mission and LSS Faith Mission of Fairfield County homeless shelters, domestic violence services through LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence, senior living and health care, affordable housing communities, and other services that uplift families and strengthen communities.
