Come along, grab a coffee, shut up, and write! We will do at least two sessions of each 45 minutes of writing and two breaks. We will start the first writing session at 10:15. For space reasons, we are limited to a certain number of attendees, so please update your RSVP if you can't come. We are typically by the large windows facing the U-Bahn entrance. If you are new, come and say hello, as we know that suddenly going quiet for 45 minutes and staring at that blank page can be intimidating when it's your first time. We have a lot of long-term regulars who will be happy to help you feel welcome. In between sessions, we have a Telegram chat: https://t.me/joinchat/ERW3pxD5kfELGeWs9SUhjw For more information, visit [https://shutupwrite.com](https://shutupwrite.com/).

Bloody Art! The Body Under the Microscope
**Bloody Art! The Body Under the Microscope** ***Art & Science Workshop*** Join us for a new workshop that brings art and science together, co-led by Cristina Brischetto, Molecular Biologist and of course, Lu. Together, they will guide you into the fascinating world of blood—exploring its vital role in the body and its hidden beauty under the microscope. This workshop is divided into two parts. In the first part, Cristina will introduce the science of blood in a short, engaging, and accessible way, sharing how blood cells function, travel, and work tirelessly to keep us alive. In the second part, Lu will guide participants through watercolour techniques with live demonstrations, focusing on fluidity, movement, and organic forms. **Inspired by microscopic images, participants will learn about biology while painting their own artistic interpretation of blood cells, linking artistic expression with scientific imagery.** No prior artistic experience is required—just curiosity and an open mind. Come explore the rhythms, colours, and stories flowing within you. **Details** * When: Wednesday, **29.04** from 6 PM to 8 PM. * Cost: €35 new students / €30 regular students. * Material: Please bring your watercolour material (watercolour paper, watercolour set and brushes) If you need materials, get in touch. **ℹ️ The next meetups will be managed on Luma.** **You can register for this event 👉 [here](https://luma.com/zma43t8d). Follow the Django User Group Berlin Calendar on Luma.** \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- In April, we'll be hosted again by [MPB](https://www.mpb.com/de-de?utm_source=luma), the second-hand market for camera and video equipment, running good ol' Django. Be sure to chat to them while you sample their food and drinks. This month, like last, we'll have a speaker from within our own community, **Sofia Fischer**, Backend Developer at Kraken Technologies. The title of her talk is: "**How complex is my function?**". This talk will give an overview of complexity metrics in computer science, software engineering, and linguistics to show many different ways in which a function may be complex. Based on the Django Framework repo, I will show how a project can be analysed with different complexity metrics. As always, please make use of the **lightning talks** and talk about anything you like: a problem that you'd like help with, a thing you've built, or a hobby you like. Doesn't have to be Django, doesn't even have to be tech! **18:30 Doors open** **19:00 Main talk by Sofia Fischer** **19:30 Lightning talks** **19:45 Get eatin'** This event is governed by the **[Berlin code of conduct](https://berlincodeofconduct.org/de/?utm_source=luma).** We want this to be a safe space for all. Any questions and concerns can always be directed towards the organizers Lara Krämer ([lara.softwareengineer@gmail.com](mailto:lara.softwareengineer@gmail.com)) and Markus Binsteiner ([markus@frkl.dev](mailto:markus@frkl.dev)) before, at and after the event. **Accessibility information:** The main entrance can be accessed via stairs or a ramp. The front door is a bit heavy and must be opened manually when closed. An elevator is available to take you up to the fifth floor. Once you reach the office door, please ring the bell; when you hear a sound, turn the handle two full turns to the right to enter, or somebody can come and open the door. If you need any assistance, feel free to reach out—we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Bring your laptop! *** **Abstract**: In this workshop, we will discuss the unique challenges (and solutions) faced when deploying Deep Learning models to embedded microcontrollers. These tiny devices are increasingly capable of running models, even for relatively complex use cases, but come without many of the comforts of a classic computer. When deploying a model to a microcontroller, a much deeper understanding of the physical hardware and good knowledge of the various optimization paths that help reduce the resource consumption of an application is needed. We aim to shed some light on how to deploy models to these cheap, ubiquitous and sometimes surprisingly capable little pieces of hardware. **In this session, we will cover:** * Important differences between a desktop/server and a bare-metal embedded system * Quantization for model compression * Anatomy of an Embedded Application * Embedded ML Inference Engines and how to run them * Deploying a model step by step **Who is this event for?** This session is targeted at anyone with basic ML knowledge. Experience with C and embedded systems is probably helpful, but not required. We will cover the most important aspects as part of the workshop. **⚡ FINAL REMINDER ⚡** **You MUST register and be approved on Luma to attend. The event location will only be visible after your registration is confirmed by the host. Workshop: Writing Characters & Dialogue
Workshop: Writing Characters & Dialogue
**Overview** This two day workshop is open to filmmakers, writers, and creative souls alike - Join us as we discover the amazing word of Fiction! **Workshop Description** *"Whatever You Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not"* [https://workshops.filmarche.de/event/260502_charactersanddialog](https://workshops.filmarche.de/event/260502_charactersanddialog "https://workshops.filmarche.de/event/260502_charactersanddialog") This two-day workshop will explore two essential elements of great fiction: character and dialogue. Together, we’ll first consider (and challenge) some ideas of more traditional storytelling; this is so we can then look at other, more unexpected ways to craft a vivid and undeniable narrative. We’ll discuss a range of techniques for creating characters who’re worthy of audience investment—characters who continually grow more known yet also more mysterious: * What exactly makes a character “interesting” to audiences? * What distinguishes a character arc that’s confusing from one that’s compelling? * What’re common pitfalls or out-of-date formulas for creating characters? * How can you elevate character development from basic level existence to magnetic presence? We’ll also focus on dialogue—one of the most evocative as well as most difficult-to-wield tools in a writer’s toolbox. So we want to demystify why it challenges so many writers. In class we’ll read examples of contemporary fiction writers—like George Saunders, Joy Williams, and Richard Price—who’ve cracked the dialogue code in uniquely spellbinding ways. And we’ll apply some of their techniques to our own creative work. Besides serving as a method for character development, dialogue can also act as a powerful force by which to create conflict, escalate tension, and galvanize a plot’s pacing. Together, we’ll break down some of dialogue’s seemingly more elusive principles, including: * What distinct challenges does dialogue present to writers? * What qualities do we tend to find in or use to describe the better kinds of dialogue? * How do we organically and clearly distinguish different characters’ voices from each other? * What’re some techniques to avoid writing dialogue that sounds one-dimensional or perfunctory? By the end of this workshop, you’ll come away with a greater grasp of how to craft exciting characters, write engaging dialogue, and overcome several unique challenges in storytelling. **Workshop Location and Dates** This event takes place over the course of two days (Saturday May 2nd from 10:00 - 18:00, Sunday May 3rd from 10:00 - 18:00) at the filmArche campus in Berlin Neukölln. **About the Instructor** Alexander Lumans is a fiction writer based in Berlin. He’s been awarded fellowships to The Arctic Circle Residency in 2015 and 2025, a 2018 U.S. National Endowment for the Arts Grant in Fiction, and the Philip Roth Residency at Bucknell University. His writing has appeared in The Paris Review, Electric Literature’s Recommended Reading, Guernica, PolarLit, Off Assignment, American Short Fiction, and others. And he’s won fiction contest prizes from The Sycamore Review, The Yalobusha Review, and Gulf Coast. He received his MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He currently teaches for the Berlin Writers’ Workshop. And he’s currently at work on a novel set in the contemporary High Arctic of Svalbard, Norway. ### **\*To Register for the Event/Purchase a Ticket** PLEASE READ! Tickets cost between 80 - 120 euros. Free in Person Meeting - Get Over Losses and Betrayls
Free in Person Meeting - Get Over Losses and Betrayls
Do you want more motivation and confidence to build Lasting Relationships? This is a free, in-person meeting on the subject of betrayals, losses and how to get over them so you can build lasting relationships. Are you burdened by a stressful relationship? Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to “pin the blame” on someone or something. If you don’t find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse. Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival, while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well. Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, don’t know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe you’ve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship. Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action? Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships! Break free from self imposed limitations Here we will discuss: • How to “erase” the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isn’t always repeating past mistakes. • Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you? • Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it? • Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love? • Fights & arguments - what's really behind them? • What underlies “corrosive criticism” or the need to invalidate self or others? • How one can stably change one’s outlook on life so they can affect positive change? • Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them? • How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about? • How to enhance one’s own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or one’s career? Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general. Learn where painful experiences are “stored” and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can “erase” those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become “toxic” personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you won’t be tripped up trusting the wrong person. Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there. This class is held at the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center.

Join us for this free, in person meeting on the subject of betrayals, losses and how to get over them so you can build lasting relationships. Do you want more motivation and confidence to build lasting relationships? We look forward to having you join us! This class is held at the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.
