Art X Fashion @ The Museum at FIT
Admission to the museum is free.
This exhibition will be on display from February 19 until April 19, 2026. If you cannot attend the opening, please stop in and see the show at your convenience. Call ahead for hours.
This exhibition is a comprehensive exploration of the symbiotic relationship between the world of fashion and fine art. Featuring more than 140 objects, including garments, accessories, textiles, photographs, and original artworks drawn from MFIT's permanent collection, *Art X Fashion* challenges the traditional hierarchies of visual culture, presenting fashion and art each as parallel, potent expressions of social, intellectual, and creative forces. Curated by Dr. Elizabeth Way, curator of costume and accessories at MFIT, the exhibition reflects MFIT's mission to advance the understanding and appreciation of fashion's critical role in culture.
The core of *Art X Fashion* lies in its profound engagement with the eternal question: "Is fashion art?" The exhibition explores the ways that fashion has always been a partner, not a follower, of fine art, highlighting typically overlooked integrations throughout history. This includes examples of how the two disciplines have worked together to create European styles, from the drama of Rococo and Neoclassical grandeur to the unsettling world of Surrealism, to the shock of Pop Art and postmodernism.

The Bayonne Chess Society A La Bruno's Pizzeria
News Flash -- New videos are up 0n the YOUTUBE channel.
[https://youtu.be/WMC-NSg_Sr0?si=tO9S0DLIxqjbpuwB](https://youtu.be/WMC-NSg_Sr0?si=tO9S0DLIxqjbpuwB&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExWUhwbWY2R1JBZkx1c1kwTAEe0ZjENYiGn9EvJvCbVd-FsbuKPvRO4UybAPOzBLxank9Y6lUwKq6yMiNedjQ_aem_sxu_sS-O8HR7ivVLdCYHKA)
All ages...ALL skills welcome. All club members/players get 25% of food purchases !!! Come play some chess, make friends, eat, and have a great time playing 'The Game Of Kings'. They also have an outside area, where members can play in, once the weather gets warmer.
Remember, the chess is free, the venue isn't. So please patronize the host. How can you not...at 25% off !!! The discount is applied to those sitting and playing a game. This will prevent people walking in, saying they're a member, and walking out after making a purchase. Bruno's is playing this by ear. Also, understand, Bruno's is the our ONLY venue offering our members this deal.
Let me see, the penne a la vodka with two meatballs is DELICIOUS. That's my go to. The sandwiches are huge. Also delicious. Nice variety of baked deserts. Hard to not stuff my face every time I go. I've gotten a lot of the members onto the pasta. They all acknowledge it's very very good.
We have sets, but if you can bring your own...its never bad to have extras.
We're currently over 500 adult members. It's close to 600 adult members if we include our members in the 'Boardgame Division'. No idea how many kids. Join the group on Facebook, under the same name. Answer the membership questions, and agree to the group rules, so you won't be surprised when you're declined...because you DIDN'T answer the membership questions and agree to the group rules.
Looking forward to meeting all the new members and players from that part of town.
Friday nights we're at Joe's Pizza. for a chess event.
We added 'OJ Macs', but they're on hold until spring now, as it's gotten too cold and we used to play in their spacious back area. Mom and Pop Shop Collectibles have been added to the schedule on Saturdays from 6pm to 10pm. That's a 'Combo all games Event'.
On nice days we have Sunday Outdoor Chess at Morris Park on 47th and Broadway. As of October 21 we won't be ending it, because its too cold. We'll pick up again next Spring.
We also have Combo Nights at 'The Vic'. Those are on Monday nights. They purchased their own sets for customers to use whenever they want. Combo nights is boardgames & chess being played. Bring whatever boardgame you want, and go at it. We usually have Scrabble, Uno, Skip Bo, Dominoes, Life ...just to name a few. So, don't miss out on a good time...and some good food and drink.
Chess at The Hugh restaurant hall
The Hugh is an indoor restaurant hall with lots of restaurants and bars to choose from.
The Chess group sits at the tables in front of the Pesce Lulu restaurant stand, where we get a 10% discount (mention the chess).
This event is run by my good friend Sam and is named "Knight's Brigade", which you can find on Instagram. Usually about 15 - 20 players are present - many more than those who RSVP here.
All skill levels are welcome, but not that this group skews to the intermediate - advanced range.
This is a completely free event.

Sunday Night Gaming at Hex & Co. West
**THE SIMPLE STUFF**
* **Be kind.**
* **Most games are planned in advance on our [Discord](https://discord.gg/rYNfkpdJNE).**
* **Be on time.** People cluster up pretty quickly and you can be without a gaming partner.
* **Cancel if you're not coming by 2PM that day.** We have limited seats.
* **Cost is $10 at the door.** This is a special Meetup rate.
* **FIRST TIMERS** **may be removed from the event** if they fail to respond to a request to confirm attendance.
**THE DETAILS**
Join us for a weekly Sunday night board game night at [Hex & Co](http://hexnyc.com/) in Morningside Heights. Tell the cashier that you're with “the Meetup” and they'll direct you to our tables in the back. Food and drink are available, and Hex has a large lending library you can choose from.
Most games are planned in advance on our [Discord](https://discord.gg/rYNfkpdJNE). Pickup games happen all the time, but are less complex than our standard fare.
All levels of game complexity are welcome, but we lean toward middle-to-heavy euros. Don't worry, teaching is a big part of our culture.
**NEW TO THE MEETUP?**
Thanks for coming! We hope you enjoy yourself. We are a social, friendly group that meets to play games. Language and behavior that is racist, sexist, ableist, ageist, and so on, is not tolerated. Bullying and bad-mouthing the other guests are also not tolerated. We're not here to debate politics, and we are not a dating service. Obviously gaming can sometimes include trash talking. Just … know if your opponents are up for that! And look, we all make mistakes -- if you’ve offended someone, an apology can go a long way.
**QUESTIONS**
**I’m relatively new to board gaming! Is this group for me?**
Hi! Welcome to board gaming! Yes, it is. To make sure you have a great experience, please show up on time, before games get decided, and introduce yourself, telling people you’re new to gaming and what games you know and like.
We were all new to gaming once, too.
While most games we play are medium-to-heavy weight games, light games appear every week, so there's probably something for you.
If you’re willing to stretch a bit and learn a more complex game, that’s great, as someone will almost always know how to teach it. To find out if players are willing to teach a game they’re about to start, just ask. Some experience with games like Azul, Catan, Splendor, Century Spice Road, 7 Wonders, Sagrada, etc., is helpful, but not essential.
**What if I am on the waiting list?**
It is rare that people on the waiting don't get seats, but it can happen. So you could just take a chance and show up.
If you do show up, 1) ask employees up front if you can wait to pay (they're typically cool about that, but no promises here /shrug) and 2) come check in with us in the back.
Seats for confirmed guests are held until 5:15, after which they're considered a no-show. (Unless they contact us first, or had something like an awful train ride.) Then seats are first-come first served.
**Will someone teach me games if I don’t know them?**
Often, yes - you just have to ask. But planning ahead can be helpful too, because that’ll give you a chance to read the rules before you come.
**What do you mean by mid- and heavy-weight board games?**
Some examples: Hansa Teutonica, Concordia, Keyflower, Great Western Trail, Clank!, Root, Small World, Scythe, Dinosaur Island, Terraforming Mars, Trickerion: Legends of Illusion, Kemet, Arcs, Underwater Cities, Food Chain Magnate, Indonesia, A Feast for Odin, Archipelago, Detective: City of Angels, and Tzolk'in.
**Can we play *X*?**
Sure! Suggest it. Make sure someone has a playable copy (you or the store), either you or someone else knows and can teach the game, and others agree to play. Games that take an exceedingly long time (4+ hours) probably won’t get picked up.
Weekly Williams Center Boardgame Night
A weekly casual gathering in the Atrium of the 100-year old Williams Center of Rutherford, NJ. The event is centered around playing contemporary boardgames of various types. Bring a game and a friend! Here is a list of our current boardgames: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/12xLd0a7dCjyqgVpD8a_7X66ZdIAfxonv-Dr4yQx9qSc/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/12xLd0a7dCjyqgVpD8a_7X66ZdIAfxonv-Dr4yQx9qSc/edit?usp=sharing)
Focal Point - LIC
Games we play: party, social deduction, strategy, euro. There's usually plenty of games around, but feel free to bring your own.
It's very important to support our hosts in opening up their place for us. We ask you to purchase a beverage from them. They have a great drink selection to choose from. Great food options in the area and that we're allowed to bring in!
If you arrive late and games have already begun, the wait for a new game shouldn't be long.

**Design, but make it real.**
**by Julian Garcia**
Software design roles have emerged and expanded alongside shifting economic and organizational demands. In the early days of software, programmers handled nearly all aspects of product creation. Over time, specialized design roles formed around interaction, research, and experience, and today those roles are shifting once again. In this talk, I explore how design work is evolving as the use of code and generative AI tools become standard.
**Julian Garcia** is a product designer and engineer based in New York.

**The design process is dead. Here’s the new one.**
**by Aleksei Kipin**
AI makes generating design options cheap and fast, breaking the old artifact-driven workflow. We’ll discuss what’s fading in the traditional process, what’s replacing it, and which skills matter most now.
**Aleksei Kipin** is a Product Designer with nearly two decades of experience across graphic and product design. He has led teams at startups in Singapore and at a major tech company, and now works in New York on AI-driven recruiting products.

Game Night, Back In Person!
We're finally back in person! After a long while of things being online, I've got the OK to invite you all to the Astoria Food Pantry at the last Thursday of the month.
Donations are highly recommended if you come in for the fun, considering they're letting us use the space; please be considerate to our hosts and donate what you can! [15 dollar donations are what's recommended to keep it going!]
Masks are now required for the winter season! Given that COVID has been spreading a bit more, we ask you please be considerate for those that choose to wear them; there are also masks at the door should you want one.
Hope to see you all there!
Play board games and meet cool people!

Join us for board gaming at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture at **269 4th Ave Brooklyn, NY!**

* You can enter regardless of registration status (as long as we are under space capacity, 74 people)
We provide tons of games, soft drinks, seltzers, water, and beers, but please feel free to bring any drinks and food you like!
You'll see silly, social party games, European economic simulators, social deduction experiences, and everything in-between. We love teaching the games and sharing all the great stuff that's going on in modern game design, so even if you're not familiar (yet!) with what games can do lately, you'll come away having learned something new.
Your suggested donation of $12 (Venmo or cash) includes hours of gaming and all the beverages you care to drink, and it directly benefits the [Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture](https://bsec.org/).
