Bible Study: Gospel of Matthew
Bible Study: Gospel of Matthew
This year the Christian lectionary centers on the **Gospel of Matthew**, and we’re taking the opportunity to read it carefully and together. Matthew is a Gospel that speaks plainly and powerfully about discipleship, community, justice, mercy, and what it means to follow Jesus in real life. In this Bible study, we’ll move through the text at a thoughtful pace, paying attention to the story Matthew tells and the questions it raises—both for the early church and for us today. This group is discussion-based and welcoming. You don’t need any special background in theology or biblical studies, and you don’t need to have all the answers. Listening, asking honest questions, and engaging the text together are at the heart of the experience. **Details:** * **Language:** English * **Location:** American Church in Berlin * **Format:** In-person * **Who:** Open to adults of all backgrounds Whether you’re reading the Bible for the first time or returning to it with fresh curiosity, you’re welcome to join us. Bring a Bible if you have one—and if you don’t, that’s just fine too.

The school was founded in the middle of the 15th century by Iizasa Chōisai Ienao at the Katori Shrine (Katori jingū) and has become the origin of numerous other martial arts schools over the course of its almost 600-year history. The training consists of the continuous repetition of fixed sequences of movements (kata) and includes the use of classic Japanese weapons such as the sword (iai-jutsu, battō-jutsu, ken-jutsu, ryōtō-jutsu, kodachi-jutsu), the long staff (bō-jutsu), the lance (naginata-jutsu) and the spear (sō-jutsu), as well as unarmed disciplines, tactics and spiritual aspects. **The Katori Berlin dojo** is the only official shibu of Otake Nobutoshi-shihan’s dojo Shinbukan in Germany and fully dedicated to the transmission and study of one martial tradition: Tenshinshō-den Katori Shintō-ryū. In 2023, he received his Menkyo license and permission to set up a training group in Berlin the following year.

Paper Stories: Folk Tales in Papercut
Paper Stories: Folk Tales in Papercut
**Paper Stories: Folk Tales in Papercut** Complementary to our February watercolour workshop on illustrating folk stories, this workshop explores the same mythic terrain through paper cutting. **Drawing inspiration from European folk tales and the intricate paper cuts of Hans Christian Andersen**, we’ll work with silhouette, repetition, and negative space to create narrative images using only paper and a blade. Across two sessions, **participants will experiment with folding, layering, and cutting techniques to translate forests, figures, and symbolic motifs into graphic, tactile compositions**. Starting with simple silhouette exercises, we’ll treat the scissors as a drawing tool. Step by step, we’ll add complexity, exploring rhythm, repetition, and the role of empty space. In the final session, we’ll develop small compositions that unfold a story through cut paper. * Open to all levels. No previous experience needed. * All materials included (black and white papers, colour and textured papers, scissors, glue, cutters and more). * Bring any extra material that you would like to experiment with (eg. old envelopes, painted papers, etc) **Wednesday 11 – 18 February** from 6:00 to 8 PM Join us for the whole course or for singles classes! **In Friedrichshain**, Berlin (exact address by e-mail) **Price:** * **65€** for the entire workshop (2 classes) * **35€** per single class * *Special discount for regular students: 60€/30€* * Payment via **PayPal / Bank transfer** ### **To book:** Email: **hola.berlinartclub@gmail.com** You’ll receive the payment details and the exact address upon confirmation. 🎟️ **Spaces are limited.** Important: RSVPing here doesn't guarantee a spot (sometimes the group is already full; please get in touch!) Folk Devils - Mask Making Workshop
Folk Devils - Mask Making Workshop
**Welcome to a new Mask-making Workshop!** As Carnival approaches, we are excited to invite you to a new, two-day hands-on mask-making workshop inspired by folk devils, spirits, and popular mythological figures from Latin America and Central America. This workshop combines cultural references, imagination, and craft, inviting participants to create their own expressive folk mask using recycled materials. No previous experience is required. In this context, devils are not symbols of evil. They represent creative **chaos, irony, protection, transformation, and vital force.** These figures often blur the line between human, animal, and spirit, appearing as guardians of the land, playful tricksters, or exaggerated reflections of social power and fear. **Day 1: Symbols, Archetypes & Design** We begin with a short cultural introduction about what the “devil” represents in Latin American folk traditions. We will explore visual examples from traditional masks and popular celebrations: folk spirits, tricksters, and hybrid animal–human figures. We will then choose a personal archetype to work with. Using a template as a base, and through quick sketches, we will design and define: • Expression: rage, irony, mystery, laughter. • Horns, nose, fangs, beard, beaks, ears, snouts • Human, animal, or hybrid forms By the end of Day 1, each participant will have a clear mask concept and begin **building the base structure with recycled cardboard and paper-maché**, which will be left to dry before the second session. **Day 2 — Painting & Finishing** We will bring the masks to life through finishing, colour, textures, and expressive accents. You will get insights on choosing your colour palette, mixing colours and painting with acrylic to get different finishing effects. The workshop closes with a collective sharing moment, where participants can present the character, spirit, or creature behind their mask. **Dates:** Friday 20 + 27.02.26 from 5 to 8PM. **Address:** In Friedrichshain. Exact address by e-mail. **Price:** 110€/ 90€ for regular students. Materials are included as well as drinks and snacks. **Materials:** All basic materials are included (Cardboard, paper, paste, papier-mâché, acrylic colours, fabric and thread, natural elements such as seeds, wood, fibres, or decorative details) We encourage you to bring your unique elements (your own special colours, personal materials or objects, small found items, fabrics, feathers, textures, or symbolic elements connected to your mask) **How to sign up?** Please send an email to **hola.berlinartclub@gmail.com,** and you will receive the registration form with all the details of payment and the exact address. Limited spots. About the teacher: **Rosi Diaz Roigt** is a graphic designer and illustrator with over 7 years of experience working with film production teams, bringing fictional characters to life through graphic design, prop creation, and movie posters. Join **Daclaud** at **The Arcane Foundry** for an evening that introduces newcomers and enthusiasts alike to the timeless craft of **tabletop wargaming** and **miniature painting**. My own journey began with a fascination for fantasy — knights in armor, grim and hardened warriors, and monstrous creatures locked in epic battle. That passion led me to **Dungeons & Dragons**, where I painted my first **Basic Heroes set** and felt the spark that comes from bringing a character to life in miniature form. Not long after, I discovered **Warhammer Fantasy** and **Warhammer 40,000**, and I was hooked. The vision of vast armies clashing across the table — each unit meticulously painted, each story unfolding through dice and imagination — became my creative obsession. During this event, we’ll explore the **origins of wargaming**, from its early military simulations to the richly detailed worlds of modern tabletop battle systems. You’ll learn how to **build and customize your own armies**, paint your first figures, and experience the joy of turning strategy and storytelling into a hands-on art form. Whether you’re drawn by the lore, the hobby, or the thrill of commanding miniature legions, this introduction will open the gates to a world that has captivated hobbyists for generations. **🎨 RSVP today and join us at The Arcane Foundry — where every brushstroke and battle tells a story.**
