Our growing dance section is always open to new members, and beginners are always welcome – no previous experience is required. Our group of dancers and percussionists is a friendly family of people from all over the world who have come together to meet new people and share a love for music, dance, and expression. Joining our classes is not just an opportunity to learn something new, it's a chance to meet a new group of people who regularly organise social events and perform together at events across London and the UK. In this 4 week will teach dance choreography for Maracatu, with a focus on steps for the Orixa Oxossi and techniques for dancing whilst parading, in preparation for Notting Hill Carnival 2026. Beginners and experienced dancers welcome. You do not need to join us for our NHCarnival parade to attend this course. The classes are taught by Gladys who is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is a professional Brazilian, ballroom, and Latin dancer, teacher, choreographer and producer. She has performed all over Europe, Middle Eastern, Africa, and Asia, and has a wealth of experience teaching Brazilian and Latin dances for all ages and nationalities. Open weekly Maracatu percussion classes for all levels – beginners to advanced – Newbies very welcome! The classes are run by Sam Alexander, a professional musician, teacher, and artist. He leads the community group Baque de Axé in London, which plays traditional Maracatu Carnival percussion music from Recife in Pernambuco, Brazil. Whether you have never drummed before, a beginner, or a skilled drummer, the workshop is open to all. We have such fun and play gigs in and around London as well as Penge. No experience is required, and you don't need to bring a partner, as partners change regularly to enable everyone to get to know each other. Most people come by themselves and make new friends! After the class, the club night goes on till midnight with DJs and a bar. The venue is hired out exclusively for the people who come for dance classes and practice.
