đ **Celebrating 10 Years of IAF Belgium (April 2016-2026)**
What began with a single conversation has grown into a vibrant and welcoming facilitation community. Over the past decade, together with initiators, board members, facilitators, and the facili-curious, we have co-created more than *100 events* dedicated to learning, collaboration, and meaningful dialogue.
To celebrate this milestone, we invite you to join us for a **special anniversary dinner** and an evening of shared memories, conversations, and connection.
âš **What to expect**
The evening will unfold in *two phases*:
**1ïžâŁ Interactive reflection & celebration**
We will begin with a short interactive facilitation moment led by *Ralph and Marie,* inviting participants to reflect on and share memories from our journey together.
Through a few reflective questions, weâll revisit experiences from the past 10 years:
âą What was your **first IAF Belgium experience**?
âą Which **IAF Belgium event** has stayed with you the most?
âą Why is **IAF Belgium meaningful for you today**?
**2ïžâŁ Anniversary dinner**
After the facilitation, we will continue the celebration with a **shared dinner** and informal conversations.
đœïž **Please note:** This is a **dinner gathering**, and participants will **order and pay for their own meal**.
đ„ **IAF Belgium will offer the first drink** to celebrate the occasion.
đ¶ There may also be **music during the evening** to accompany the celebration & goodies *(to be confirmed)*.
Whether you have been part of the journey from the beginning or recently discovered the community, you are warmly invited to join us in celebrating this milestone.
đ **With deep gratitude, we recognize the people whose dedication, energy, and generosity helped shape and grow this community over the past 10 years:**

Leuven lean coffee meetup
For those unfamiliar with LeanCoffee: it's a moderated discussion format where we talk about the topics that get voted on by the participants. This makes for varying topics.
Overall, Lean Coffee provides a flexible and democratic way for groups to engage in meaningful conversation.
We try to start at 19:30 with an intro round and start gathering topics you want to talk about straight after. Coming late is ok, but just know that you typically won't have a say in what gets talked about.
When you come for the first time, youâll usually find the host, Nicky, there early, with a Lean Coffee sign on the table â and often in the company of two dogs.

* **Location**
We have two locations:
Monday Sessions:
The session takes place on the first floor of The Sister Cafe. Stairs next to the bar. It's the room with a curtain at the door.
Wednesday Sessions:
At Brussels Beer Poject
Rue Antoine Dansaert 188, 1000 Bruxelles
* **Participation (Attendee list)**
The session is limited to **12 attendees**. This ensures the session is manageable and everybody gets enough chances to participate.
Therefore, only the people on the "attendee list" can participate in the session.
**Waiting list**: People on the waiting list should keep an eye on the updates in case someone from the attendees' list drops and you get their spot. It's important for the people on the waiting list also to update their RSVP status if they already know they won't be joining the session.

* Emergencies aside, please update your RSVP status on time. Canceling at the last minute or just 1 hour before isn't helpful.
* If we see a pattern from someone not showing up after confirming or last-minute cancellations, we reserve the right to prohibit session access.
* Please write a comment if you cancel and your spot becomes available. With this, others will get an extra notification.
**Improv Session Format**
The session is held in English.
The session has three sections: Warm-up, Scene games, and Cool down.
**Warmup:** Quick group games are played to break the ice and get the creative juices flowing.
**Scenes:** Then we move on to scene games. These are mostly from short-form improv, which can include different games with various gimmicks, like story building, character work, guessing, etc
**Cool down:** One or two short group games to end the session. The rules are explained by the moderator before each game.
There is no obligation to participate in games you are uncomfortable with.
There can be feedback after a game is played. This is so we learn from each other and gain skills and insights.
**Tip**: If you are new, pay attention to the regular players when they are performing and notice small details, like how a stage is cleared before a scene, how to enter a scene, and how to collaborate with each other.
* **Who is it for?**
Anyone interested in improv! We accept participants at all levels, beginners and advanced.
This is a great place to start if you are new to improv. The basics will be explained. We only require the "Yes, and...!" spirit!
If you are an advanced player and have ideas and games to share and work on, please do let us know.
We look forward to welcoming you and doing improv!

+- 8/10 km Evening hike Hallerbos
đ Evening Hike â Hallerbos (Start: Parking at ât Kriekske, 18:45)
This evening hike begins at 18:45 from the parking area right next to restaurant ât Kriekske, perfectly timed to enjoy the soft light as the forest transitions into dusk. The route covers a maximum of 8â10 km, making it an accessible and relaxed walk suitable for all levels.
From the parking, wide forest paths lead you straight into the heart of the Hallerbos. As the sun lowers, the beech trees filter the last warm light, creating long shadows and a calm, almost cinematic atmosphere. In spring, the fading daylight highlights the purple-blue carpet of bluebells, giving the forest a magical glow.
The trail is mostly flat and easy to follow, ideal for unwinding after a busy day. Youâll hear the forest slowly quiet down while birds settle for the night and the evening breeze moves through the tall trees.
After completing the loop, we return directly to ât Kriekske, where we end the evening together with a drink or meal â the perfect way to wrap up a peaceful walk in one of Belgiumâs most enchanting forests.
What to bring
Hiking shoes đ for the muddy paths đ
Some cash and cards for drink at the restaurant

About the moderator
Edit, founder of Tulipane Design.
âRaised in the Hungarian countryside, I learned sewing, crochet and traditional bead weaving. Jewellery being my main interest, I especially liked bead weaving. This passion has always been with me.
Since I have been living in Belgium, the African style fascinates me as much as the Hungarian folk style.
With my work, which manifests itself under the brand name Tulipane Design, I would like to offer a delicate mixture of Eastern Europe and Africa.
The designs are created and woven bead by bead. It is a work of patience and a kind of meditation: the beads take time to be woven.
Through my childhood trauma with an abusive father, I realised that creating is a crucial activity to find my balance and well-being and I think I am not alone with this. That's why my goal is not only to share my creations with other women but also to contribute to a social impact. Tulipane Design contributes with 1âŹ/jewel sold to the Domestic Violence Centre in Belgium.â

Trails & Ales! Prairie Oaks Metro Park / Crooked Can Brewing
**History**
[Prairie Oaks Metro Park](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/prairie-oaks/) sits along the Franklin and Madison County border, west of Columbus near areas like Hilliard and West Jefferson. The land was part of the broader push in the late 1990s and early 2000s to expand the Metro Parks system into the northwest and western quadrants of the county. Metro Parks began acquiring parcels for what would become Prairie Oaks during the millennium era, as part of a wave of new parks aimed at protecting natural features around Big Darby Creek. Much of the property had been altered by past uses, including farming and quarrying, which left behind pits that later became the Darby Bend Lakes. The park's creation reflected growing interest in preserving remnants of the Darby Plains ecosystem, one of Ohio's original prairie regions that had largely disappeared after European settlement.
The park officially opened to the public in 2000, making it one of the newer additions to the Metro Parks lineup at the time. As the 12th park in the system, it joined others acquired around the turn of the century, like Glacier Ridge. Initial access focused on basic trails and the scenic Big Darby Creek, a State and National Scenic River that winds through the property. Restoration efforts kicked off soon after opening, with crews using seeds native to the Darby Plains to replant nearly 500 acres of tallgrass prairie and grasslands. These plantings aimed to revive the open oak savannas that once characterized the area before widespread agriculture in the 1800s.
Over the first decade, Prairie Oaks grew in popularity for its mix of restored habitats and recreational features. The former quarry in the eastern section transformed into the Darby Bend Lakes area, where four connected lakes now offer boating, fishing, and a dedicated dog swim spot. Trails expanded to showcase the prairie blooms, especially in summer and fall when asters and goldenrods light up the fields. Partnerships with groups like The Nature Conservancy highlighted the park's role in protecting the Darby Creek watershed, often called one of the "Last Great Places" for its water quality and biodiversity. Visitors from around central Ohio started discovering it as a quieter alternative to busier spots closer in.
Restoration work continued into the 2010s, including wet prairie projects on about 190 acres to enhance hydrology and native plant diversity. The park's size reached over 2,200 acres, incorporating more floodplain along Big Darby Creek for flood storage and wildlife habitat. Amenities like parking at Sycamore Plains and Darby Bend Lakes improved access, drawing hikers, kayakers, and birders. Events and programs began emphasizing the prairie theme, from guided walks on blooming seasons to educational talks about pre-settlement landscapes. These efforts helped solidify Prairie Oaks as a showcase for ecological recovery in the Metro Parks system.
Today, Prairie Oaks stands out for blending restored prairie with creek-side adventure, just a short drive from the west side. Its history mirrors the Metro Parks' shift toward large-scale habitat restoration in the 21st century. The park continues to evolve with ongoing stewardship, protecting what remains of the Darby Plains while offering locals a place to experience tallgrass vistas and oak openings. Whether paddling the lakes or walking the trails, it's a reminder of how much the region has changed since settlement â and how intentional work can bring some of it back.
**Map of the Park**
Here is a [map of Prairie Oaks](https://www.metroparks.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/POK_map_1980.jpg).
**Summary**
For this event, we will hike the Coneflower, Alder, and Sycamore Plains Trails, and, depending on conditions, the Osage Opening and Tall Grass Trails, or Lake View, Mound, Darby Creek Greenway, and River Rock Trails around the lakes. Either way, we'll go around 4.5 to 5 miles.
For the most part, this won't be a terribly strenuous hike; Prairie Oaks tends to be flat. However, some of the hike won't be shaded, so be prepared for the possibility of some sun. Parts of the trails may also be muddy or wet, so I recommend [hiking shoes](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D972KN3W) and a change of socks.
**Where We'll Meet**
* Enter the Park at the main entrance at 3225 NE Plain City-Georgesville Rd. If you put "Prairie Oaks Metro Parks" into your Google Maps, it should default to this main address (but double-check to be sure).
* After you enter the Park, the first parking lot on your right is the Park Office. Keep driving past this lot.
* Enter the second parking lot you come to (which is also on your right). There's a picnic area, playground, and latrine here. There's no water fountain, though, so I recommend you bring water of your own, at least for after the hike.
* I've included a screen shot in the Photos, below, where I've circled in blue the main Park entrance as well as the picnic area we're meeting at.
**After the Hike**
After we're done surveying the prairie grasses, we'll head over to [Crooked Can Brewing](https://crookedcanohio.com/) for [drinks](https://www.crookedcanohio.com/beer) and [food](https://www.crookedcanohio.com/center-street-market). The brewery has an entire food court, and they have a large free parking lot next to the [Early Television Museum](https://www.earlytelevision.org/).
The actual address of the brewery is [5354 Center St, Hilliard, OH 43026](https://www.google.com/maps/place/5354+Center+St,+Hilliard,+OH+43026/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x883893f9ede6d5fb:0xbecf42d7055d9006?sa=X&ved=1t:242&ictx=111). We should be there by 5 if you can't make the hike and just want to join us for drinks.
Tour of Brothers Drake Meadery and mead/tea tasting
Join us for a tour of Brothers Drake Meadery in Grandview, hosted by the owner Oron Benary. He will explain the mead-making process and offer us generous samples of their fine meads.
Mead is basically wine that is made from honey instead of grapes. There are many different flavors that range from dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, to sweet. They are best known for their Apple Pie Mead.
Oron has offered us a special price of 5.00 each person for the tour and tasting, which is normally 25.00 per person. I've taken the tour several times, and it's always enlightening and fun.
Rebecca will bring a tea that will pair well with the mead for a tea tasting afterwards.
Park anywhere around the building. Please avoid parking in front of the houses in the neighborhood behind the Meadery.
Please keep your RSVP current. Knowing how many will attend will help Brothers Drake plan accordingly to accommodate us.
