Open Coffee Riga is a friendly informal networking event for entrepreneurs, professionals, locals, guests, people in the startup community, and students in Riga. Open Coffee Riga is an “un-meeting” without a speaker or agenda. We are focused on attendees gaining value from other attendees. The rules, tools, structure and moderation aim to facilitate this goal. You may find a mentor, investor, client, co founder, employer, vendor, inspiration or a friend. What is the BIG idea behind Open Coffee? We want to help people create valuable & meaningful connections. Everyone is welcome to our meetings, and we especially love first-timers. We want to make sure that if somebody coming from an unsupportive background/country has the courage to join, they will notice that we are glad they came because we welcome them. If you feel shy, you can also just listen but we encourage you to talk. We start at 19:00 sharp. Everybody gets up to 2 minutes to present: 1. Who they are and what they are doing 2. You can talk about any project/topic. This event is based on the Open Coffee Krakow format, run by Richard Lucas and others in Krakow, Poland since 2012. The Open Coffee Riga is a revival of the Open Coffee Riga from 2011 (!) where it evolved into TechHub Riga & that evolved into StartupHouse Riga. **Meeting at 11:20 on Saturday at the Laima shop & Ticket Offices area of the central railway station. We are taking the 11:38 train to Skulte, and will get off at Vecaķi. Please arrange for your own ticket.** You might have seen recent photos of the frozen seaside and the famous Lady Kathleen / Lady Cotlin shipwreck near the Mangaļsala Pier. On this daytrip we will venture out to Vecaķi and walk by the seaside to the Mangaļsala Pier. **The path will most likely be frozen and slippery.** If possible and safe, we will get close to the shipwreck as well. **Approaching the shipwreck might be unsafe and it is your own responsibility.** The weather is expected to be cold and appropriate clothing and bringing hot drinks are advised. The walking distance is about 12 km from the Vecaķi train station to the Pier and then to the terminal of Bus 24. We will take Bus 24 to return to the centre. Everyone is welcome to join. **People Analytics 101: Making Sense of Compensation Data** Compensation data is one of the most widely used and widely misunderstood forms of people analytics. The session will cover where compensation data comes from, including market pricing data, internal payroll data, and benchmarking sources, and how companies think about structuring and analyzing that information. We will explore how compensation data is leveraged to set salary ranges, manage internal equity, support hiring and retention, and align pay with business strategy. A portion of the session will address common data challenges and limitations, such as market noise, inconsistent job matching, and incomplete datasets, while keeping the primary focus on practical use rather than technical depth. The session will also look ahead at where the space is going, including the growing impact of pay transparency laws, expanding pay equity requirements, and emerging regulations in the US and Europe that require organizations to report on gender and pay gaps. The goal is to give attendees a clear mental model for how compensation analytics works today and why getting it right is becoming increasingly critical.
