What Is Knowledge? How Do We Know Anything?
What does it mean to *know* something?
We often say things like âI know this is true,â but philosophy asks a deeper question: what separates knowledge from mere belief? If someone believes something that happens to be true, is that already knowledge â or is something more required?
In this meetup we will explore some of the central questions of **epistemology**, the philosophical study of knowledge:
* What is the difference between **belief**, **truth**, and **knowledge**?
* Do we need **justification** in order to know something?
* Can we ever be certain about anything?
* Could we be radically mistaken about the world â dreaming, deceived, or living in a perfect illusion?
* Is it possible that **knowledge itself might be impossible**?
Philosophical skepticism raises the unsettling possibility that we might never truly know anything at all. If all our beliefs could in principle be mistaken, what would count as genuine knowledge?
We may also briefly discuss famous philosophical puzzles, such as the **Gettier problem**, which challenges the traditional definition of knowledge as *justified true belief*.
No prior knowledge of philosophy is required. The goal is not to reach final answers but to explore the problem together through open discussion.
Bring your curiosity â and perhaps a few things you think you know.

After Work - Founder (& aspiring) networking
Laid back get together to network and exchange over a couple of drinks.
Board Games at Arkade (Thursday)
Pay the **5 ⏠board gaming fee** to the bar at the counter when you arrive. You must be at least 18 years old to enter [Arkade](https://www.arkade.fi/). We play in English and the game rules are taught before starting play, unless everyone is already familiar with the game. No previous experience with board gaming required. Despite our RSVP numbers here on Meetup, we almost always have at least 20 people participating weekly.
The venue has a great board game library, the host and other players usually bring their own games too: our selection varies weekly. We're a very casual group so you're welcome to arrive early or late and join whatever game is starting up, there is no attendance tracking, or welcoming process.
The bar has alcoholic drinks, mocktails, and soft drinks available as well as some snack foods. They've been okay with people ordering food to the bar with meal delivery services.
If you are feeling sick, please stay home.

Sketchy Collective: Helsinki Drawing Meetup
**Welcome to Sketchy Collective!**
A relaxed and social drawing group for anyone who enjoys sketching â or just wants to give it a try.
\*\*\*
We meet **every Sunday at 15:00** in **Oodi Library**.
\*\*\*
**HOW TO FIND US**
We meet on the **top floor of Oodi Library**, on the stairs **opposite** the childrenâs area.
It's a good idea to **keep your sketchbook visible** so others can easily recognize that you're there for the sketching meetup. And if youâre a regular participant, making it clear that you're part of the sketching group can be very helpful for newcomers!
\*\*\*
**HOW IT WORKS**
At each meetup, attendees take turns being the model for a quick **10-minute sketch session**. One person poses, everyone else sketches, then we rotate.
\*\*\*
**WHAT TO BRING**
Pencils and paper (or any sketching tools you like).
No fees, no pressure. The only thing we ask is that everyone takes a turn posing for the group. You can sit however you feel comfortable â the 10 minutes go by quickly! Draw as much as you like, skip a round if youâre tired or just want to chat, and leave whenever it suits you. The event continues as long as thereâs interest.
\*\*\*
**STAYING CONNECTED**
Due to issues with spam and advertising, the group has decided that **only people who have attended at least one meetup will be accepted into the WhatsApp group**. To be added, please ask other participants at the meetup â a few members have permission to approve new people, and at least one of them will likely be present.
\*\*\*
**SOCIAL MEDIA**
If youâd like to share your drawings from the meetup, you can send them via message on Facebook or Instagram, or use the Instagram collab function. We warmly encourage everyone to share their work and take part in building our international sketching gallery â together with artists from all the cities where Sketchy Collective meetups are organized.

* The background of using an external sign-up and payment system is because Meetup.com introduced a service fee to increase 21% of the fee in May 2023, and we want to reduce this cost.

**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
**Abstract**
Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively.
This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. Weâll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from serverâdriven controls, and why theyâre becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether youâre maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, youâll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standardsâbased way.
