Saturday skiing at Flims-Laax
Saturday skiing at Flims-Laax
On the coming Saturday, March 22, let's go skiing to wonderful Flims-Laax. With an abundance of snow, the forecast promises -6C under 13 hours of sunshine. Train connection: Zurich HB to Chur at 7:38, Chur to Flims Dorf, Bergbahnen at 08:57. I am coming with a car, and can pick up somebody on my way from Baden. We all will meet at the valley station of the gondola to Plaun at 09:30. You won’t miss a tall mate in a bright yellow ski jacket. In any case, I will send a WhatsApp chat invit to all registered participants via PM here on Meetup. I assume all participants have sufficient skiing experience to feel at ease on read slopes and reasonably negotiate black ones. The event is for responsible individuals who ski at their own risk.
First FoodScience Dinner Party
First FoodScience Dinner Party
Let‘s kick off our first food science Dinnerparty with a swiss classic: Capunz! We‘ll do a traditional version and then look at different scientific techniques to translate the recipe into a delicious vegan dish. Participation requires a short vibe check by me (phone or text), to avoid inviting debate-bros, MLM-people, cryptospammers and right-wingers.

Open Sharing Circle ✨ (Deutsch)
Open Sharing Circle ✨ (Deutsch)

Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
So this month's prompt is more general. I think we can all agree that we are living in "unique" times that require coping skills. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels. Hope to see you on March 28th!

Art Night - Bring Your Own Work
Art Night - Bring Your Own Work
Welcome to the Art School - 20's & 30's artists Meetup group! This is a community for young artists who are passionate about exploring different mediums and techniques in the world of art. Whether you're a painter, sculptor, photographer, or mixed media artist, this group is the perfect place to connect with like-minded individuals, have a space to work on your craft, and showcase your work. Let's inspire and support each other on our artistic journeys! Whether you're a novice or a seasoned artist, all skill levels are welcome. Join us and unleash your creativity! This month we will be discussing **Frank Santoro**, an American cartoonist, painter, and comics critic known for his expressive lines, experimental page layouts, and vibrant use of color. His graphic novels—including *Storeyville*, *Pompeii*, and *Pittsburgh*—blend personal storytelling with innovative visual structure, often exploring memory, place, and relationships. In addition to his comics, Santoro has been an influential voice in comics education and criticism, co-founding the magazine *ComicsComics* and creating the **Santoro Correspondence Course for Comic Book Makers**, which has helped train and inspire a new generation of cartoonists. Afterwards, we will have time to work on our individual art projects, hang out, and if anyone is interested in feedback on their work, there will be time for that as well.
CBusData: The Fellowship of the Star Schema: Transforming OLTP Data for Power BI
CBusData: The Fellowship of the Star Schema: Transforming OLTP Data for Power BI
The Fellowship of the Star Schema: Transforming OLTP Data for Power BI One does not simply build reports on OLTP data. Join us on an epic journey from the depths of raw, normalized tables to the shining halls of a well-modeled star schema fit for Power BI greatness. We will demystify the differences between OLTP and OLAP, walk through star schema vs snowflake (and why Power BI has a clear favorite), and show you the compression differences between normalized and columnar storage that will make you never look at an OLTP model the same way again. We will cover the different types of dimensions, when to use them, and how to handle Slowly Changing Dimensions without losing your mind. You will leave knowing exactly how to identify a bad model, how to convert OLTP data into a clean star schema, and how to forge relationships that rule them all. Whether you are a data wizard, a curious hobbit, or somewhere in between, your models will never be the same.
