[WOMEN ONLY] Social Sisters SG Weekly Dinner Meetup! 🎉
We’re so excited to host our **Social Sisters SG Dinner Meetup!** 🎉 Come join us for a relaxed, casual dinner session— a perfect chance to meet new friends, share stories, and exchange cultures in a fun and friendly group setting! 🌸
Location: **Asia Square Food Garden**
Time: **7-9pm** (Feel free to come and leave earlier or later!)
Price: **$2 to RSVP. Paynow to 89897063**
📍**Note:** Social Sisters SG is a space for genuine connection and friendship — not for business promotion or MLM (multi-level marketing) activities. You’re welcome to exchange contacts, but please do so at your own discretion.
📌 We try to keep our events **small and cosy**, with slots limited to **12 participants** per event. However, with the number of RSVPs and potential no-shows, it can be hard to gauge whether someone who has RSVP’d will eventually turn up. This sometimes means that interested attendees remain on the waitlist unnecessarily.
Hence, from **15 January 2026**, we’ll be introducing a **$2 RSVP fee to ensure attendance**. This will help us plan better, potentially reduce no-shows and keep events fair for everyone 💛

Technique Samba I Group Class (Advanced)
Originating from Brazil, Samba was introduced to the US in the late 1920s through Broadway plays. American-styled Samba differs from Brazilian-styled Samba, where Samba is danced solo and during parades and carnivals. Today, Latin American Samba is characterized by its syncopated timing, rolling hip action, pelvic tilt and a slight bounce, while its rhythm is also expressed throughout the torso. Samba is a fun and lively dance that can be performed as an upbeat and sultry dance during a show or a competition, and as the joy of a party.

Kirtan - Music meditation (Every First Friday of the month)
Many of us think of yoga as physical exercises to enhance one’s physique, with an occasional short meditation for its calming effects. But that is only the tip of the iceberg. How to we deal with our intense human emotions or trauma that accumulated as we progress in our lives?
According to ancient yoga, the human body is made up of the multiple layers—physical, mental, emotional; and there are many practices to bring light to our being.
Emotions are vital and sacred; like pockets of energy waiting to be released; emotions are not obstacles but our guiding lights to finding the ultimate bliss in life. The ancient yogis gave us Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion, to channel that energy and guide us back to our source.
Bhakti is about a relationship with the universe and it is all encompassing that it embraces every color on the emotional spectrum. In Bhakti Yoga, we lead with our hearts. We sing, we dance, we play music, write poetry, cook, paint and do everything with love —as part of our interaction with the Divine.
Kirtan, the practice of chanting mantras, is perhaps the most important technique in bhakti yoga (Man means “Mind” and Tra means “to Control”).
The practice is simple but internally it works magic in our hearts. Externally, we’re just repetitively singing with simple melodies and a few Sanskrit words. But it helps us to put our analytical minds aside and singing from within. We sing from our heart that is crying out for love. We channel whatever emotion we’re feeling into our voice.
Deep healing happens, walls will melt, wounds will heal, trauma will heal, hate & unforgiveness will dissolve. Long-submerged emotions come to the surface.
As we sing, we immerse ourselves in an endless river of love from the universe. And we enter into a meditative & blissful state that allow our hearts to heal and re-open the infinite universal source of love within us.
There is no need to understand the language of the mantra. No need for mental speculation nor any intellectual adjustment. It is automatic, from the spiritual platform, and anyone can take part without any previous qualification.
Join us for Kirtan to heal our hearts:
Every First Friday of the month

Practical Philosophy Meetup - Singapore 🇸🇬
🏛️ **WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?**
Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no ‘official’ philosophy knowledge required! 😎
Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic.
The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community 🙌
📓 **HOW DOES IT WORK?**
Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Hg7zL8ClpzM3agJCvw5HDS), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going.
When groups get bigger than 7-8 people, it’s important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture.
**General Meeting Agenda**
Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline:
* 19:00-19:15 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the ‘official' start.
* 19:15-19:25 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines.
* 19:25-20:45 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the ‘jump-off’ questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. It’s not obligatory to answer them.
* 20:45-21:00 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer concludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo.
* 21:00 - The official meeting is over but it’s a great opportunity to get to know people in a non-structured environment, so we often stick around, chat, and get to know each other.
**🧧PRICING?**
Practical Philosophy Club is FREE to attend! We just ask that if we are meeting in a café, buy a beverage! Some chapters rent a space for us to meet, and they may ask for donations to help contribute to the cost of rent. Donations will always be 100% voluntary though!
💛 WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY
🗣 “I feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief system through a series of perspectives while not promoting what’s right and wrong” - Ekam
🗣 “I got hooked from day 1 (the topic was authority) and felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people can go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexibility.” - Daniel
**🤓 FAQ**
* What will we talk about? What's the topic?
The topic for the week is shared every Sunday in the Whatsapp group. We try to add the topic to the comment section on this event page as well but if you don’t see it, the topic and the jump-off points will be in our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Hg7zL8ClpzM3agJCvw5HDS).
* Do I need to study or read anything to attend?
No preparation is necessary. This isn’t a study of other thinkers. We want to know what YOU think about the topic, not what an old philosopher thought. If you have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share, throw it on the table and we’ll discuss it, but it's not required.
* Is there a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on?
The goal of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions, and flex our critical thinking muscles. Because of this, we want to hear from every realm of thought, and don't study a particular school.
* Is it mostly men that attend?
Surprisingly, no! Although philosophy is seen as a Candelabra affair in a dark room with a bunch of guys, our Practical Philosophy meetups are generally 50/50 between genders, and we don’t meet in any dark rooms.
* Can I come alone?
Of course you can, we encourage it :)
* Can I be late?
Please don't be! We do have a 15 minute grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out, but after that if you arrive too late, it disrupts the flow of the conversation.
* Where do you meet?
The location is posted in Meetup and our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Hg7zL8ClpzM3agJCvw5HDS) group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practical Philosophy Club, you can see our chapters on our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/practical-philosophy-locations/).

Humanist Community Celebrating Darwin Day
Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program:
Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there!
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

Contra dance with Big Scioty on Feb. 7 - First Congregational Church

**Band: Trillium**
**Big Scioty Contra Dance**
**temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
