HDW Low-Key Data Meetup - Summer Edition!
HDW Low-Key Data Meetup - Summer Edition!
We thought it would be nice to start the summer right, in good company, in a relaxed setting. So, for the first time, the HDW Low-Key Data Meetup takes place at the [Olarin Panimo Taproom](https://olarinpanimo.fi/taproom/) at Konepaja, Vallila. We'll be outside, weather permitting, so it's also the perfect start for the 'terrace season'. And if it happens to rain, we'll just be inside instead. If you're coming from the city center, Tram number 9 is probably the easiest to take. A couple of words about Helsinki Data Week at the beginning. After that, it’s again just hanging out with like-minded folks and your beverage of choice! Free for participants! Join us in Olarin Panimo Taproom at 17:00 on Thursday, June 4! ps. Following a spring cleaning of his bookshelf, Antti will have \~20 (mostly data) books to give away. First come, first served!

Film Club: Full Metal Jacket / Stanley Kubrick @ Kino Regina
Film Club: Full Metal Jacket / Stanley Kubrick @ Kino Regina
You're welcome to join us for our film club featuring classic movies from all decades! After the screening, we'll gather somewhere nearby to discuss the film and share our appreciation for the art of cinema. -- This time our featured film is Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, screening at Kino Regina in the Helsinki Central Library Oodi: > Full Metal Jacket is a 1987 war film directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick from a screenplay he co-wrote with Michael Herr and Gustav Hasford. The film is based on Hasford's 1979 autobiographical novel The Short-Timers. It stars Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermey, Vincent D'Onofrio, Adam Baldwin, Dorian Harewood, and Arliss Howard. > The storyline follows a platoon of U.S. Marines through their boot camp training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. The first half of the film focuses primarily on privates J. T. Davis and Leonard Lawrence, nicknamed "Joker" and "Pyle" respectively, who struggle under their abusive drill instructor, Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. The second half portrays the experiences of Joker and other Marines in the Vietnamese cities of Da Nang and Huế during the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War. The film's title refers to the full metal jacket bullet used by military servicemen. The tickets to this screening cost 10€. Make sure to reserve yours before they run out: [https://kinoregina.fi/elokuva/104618/](https://kinoregina.fi/elokuva/104618/) -- After the screening, we'll gather near the theater exit before sitting down somewhere nearby to discuss our experience.

Oulu retreat- Held by Nature, Held by Being
Oulu retreat- Held by Nature, Held by Being
Theme of this retreat is deepening our relationship with nature — pausing to listen, reconnecting with ourselves, each other, and the living world around us. During the retreat, we create space for stillness, presence, and gentle exploration of what nature within us — and around us — is inviting us to notice, feel, and remember. These days offer a chance to exhale and be held in a safe and accepting space, where you can be seen and heard just as you are. If you feel the call to slow down and go deeper, this might be your moment. For more information about this transformative opportunity, contact me directly: 0445588999
Unhosted Board Games at Arkade (Thursday)
Unhosted Board Games at Arkade (Thursday)
This week's event is **unhosted**. Worry not though, we're still likely to have \~20 people from our group playing games at Arkade. Pay the **5 € board gaming fee** to the bar at the counter when you arrive. You must be at least 18 years old to enter [Arkade](https://www.arkade.fi/). We play in English and the game rules are taught before starting play, unless everyone is already familiar with the game. No previous experience with board gaming required. Despite our RSVP numbers here on Meetup, we almost always have at least 20 people participating weekly. The venue has a great board game library, the host and other players usually bring their own games too: our selection varies weekly. We're a very casual group so you're welcome to arrive early or late and join whatever game is starting up, there is no attendance tracking, or welcoming process. The bar has alcoholic drinks, mocktails, and soft drinks available as well as some snack foods. They've been okay with people ordering food to the bar with meal delivery services. If you are feeling sick, please stay home.
