C++ vs intuition : Gleb Gladilov
C++ vs intuition : Gleb Gladilov
Hello Everyone, For this meetup, we'll have a presentation by Gleb Gladilov about common C++ pitfalls. Gleb is a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Intel, building machine-learning compilers for Intel NPUs on top of MLIR/LLVM. A long-time open-source enthusiast, he has spent over a decade working in C++ across compilers, low-level optimization, computer vision, and high-performance computing—and still enjoys uncovering the language’s sharp edges. C++ is full of delightful traps: code that looks obvious, may even compile cleanly, but then does something… else. In this talk we’ll tour a collection of minimal examples where C++ behavior turns out to be counter-intuitive, covering operators, initialization, constexpr, and a few other sharp edges along the way. We’ll unpack what’s really happening in hope of having fun and avoiding the “wait, what?” moments in production. Slides include links to extra material (Compiler Explorer snippets, articles, and curated talks) for anyone who wants to go further.

Members who attended the previous tours will agree that the tour was very enjoyable and Dr. Whelan kept us enthralled with his great wit and knowledge. In 1671, a charitable school for boys of poor families was established called the Hospital and Free School of King Charles II, Dublin. It became known as the King's Hospital or Blue Coat School because of the boys' military-style blue uniform. The original school built on another site, was deemed to be in danger of collapsing by the early 1770's. Thomas Ivory, Master of the School of Architectural Drawing in the Dublin Society prepared a set of thirteen drawings in 1776 for a new design. The building was never finished to Ivory's design. In December 1783, the building was opened. and the first boys moved into the school. In 1894, the incomplete tower was removed and replaced by the present cupola. Blackhall Place remained the home of the Blue Coat School until 1968. The building was acquired by the Law Society in 1971 and having completed substantial renovations, it was opened as the headquarters of the solicitors' preofession in 1978. The Chapel, now known as the Presidents' Hall, has considerable distinction with its fine plasterwork of the Georgian period and was enhanced in the 20th century by the erection of a stained glass east window by the Irish artist, Evie Hone. I look forward to seeing you there.

Ivan's Childhood (1962)
Ivan's Childhood (1962)
This month’s film is Tarkovsky’s *Ivan’s Childhood* (’62) (postponed from last month). Together with Fellini’s *8 ½*, Antonioni’s *L’Avventura*, Resnais’ *Last Year in Marienbad*, Godard’s *Le Mepris*, Visconti’s *Death in Venice* and Bergman’s *The Seventh Seal,* this is one of the foundational films of 20th century cinema. Bergman described him as: “the greatest film maker… who invents a new language.” And this is comfortably his best and most important film.

Neon Ideas Night: Influences to Originals
Neon Ideas Night: Influences to Originals
Hi all, join us for our next meetup where we'll be heading back to the bar for another relaxed, idea-filled session - part listening party, part creative spark generator. We’ll continue sharing songs, bands, sounds, and textures we love to help shape our collective dream pop / synth wave direction 🎶 As well as that, anyone that has any original material of their own is encouraged to bring it along - that could be a chord progression, a synth patch, a guitar riff, a bass groove, or even a vocal melody - something simple that captures your vibe. No pressure, no perfection needed - just a starting point. The goal is to build from these fragments, inspire each other, and slowly piece together our own signature sound 🔊 We'll also need lyrics for any tunes we come up with so if anyone has any they'd like to use feel free to bring them, or indeed write some on the way 😎 Expect good chats, creative energy, and plenty of shimmering, reverb-soaked inspiration.

In addition to his comics, Santoro has been an influential voice in comics education and criticism, co-founding the magazine *ComicsComics* and creating the **Santoro Correspondence Course for Comic Book Makers**, which has helped train and inspire a new generation of cartoonists. Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us as we get together for an Arthouse Movie Friday event to see the A24 dark comedy /romance / psychological-thriller, THE DRAMA! The film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a happily engaged couple whose relationship is challenged when one discovers unsettling truths about the other. Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event: DESCRIPTION: The film follows a happily engaged couple whose relationship is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails. The film comes from A24, is written/directed by Kristoffer Borgli stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Zoë Winters. QUICK WORD OF WARNING: The film hasn’t screened for critics yet and most of the details are being kept tightly under wraps. But, early buzz (possibly promotional) says the film is a brilliant psychological thriller/romance but also provocative, twisty and some contains occasional uncomfortable viewing! I love the cast and trailer, so look forward to seeing for ourselves! ZENDAYA-PATTINSON TRIFECTA CHALLENGE: Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will star in THREE movies together this year, including THE DRAMA, Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY this Summer and Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE: PART THREE at Christmas! TRAILER: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk) PLAN: We’ll plan for 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime! Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater but early arrival is advised. Possibly post-movie get-together at the nearby Rusty Bucket! Complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. Take care and look forward to seeing you there, Dan

Humanist Program
Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid.
