Teatime Talk: Dublin's Women Street Traders, 1882-1932
A ballad about street trader Molly Malone is widely regarded as Dublinās anthem, yet the cityās relationship with the women who traded on its streets was often contentious. From 1882 onwards efforts commenced to have street traders banned alongside gentrification projects. A watershed came with the passage of the Street Trading Act of 1926. Join historian Susan Marie Martin for this talk which looks at the resistance of the traders when those with power refused to recognize them as stakeholders. What the establishment learned was that the women were prepared to engage in civil disobedience, endure violence from GardaĆ and serve time in jail to both protect their livelihoods and protest what they described as ābanishment to the slumsā.
Please book your ticket through the Henrietta Street website before you RSVP.
When your ticket is booked: You will automatically go on the waiting list when you RSVP.
Please mention in Comments when your ticket is booked.
I will then move you from the waiting list to the going list.
This talk starts at 6pm.
We will meet at the registration desk inside No.14 Henrietta Street at 5.40pm.
Susan Marie Martin is a historical sociologist. She is a guest lecturer and research project supervisor in University College Cork's Food Studies and Irish Foodways programme.
This talk will take place in person on the 1st floor of the Museum and can be accessed via lift.
I look forward to seeing you there.

Improv Theatre Workshop - for Beginners and Improvers @ the LAB
Join this Improv workshop for an afternoon filled with fun!
You don't need any acting/stage experience to join us. It is meant for beginners and improvers.
**What we will do:**
* Group exercises to warm up and feel safe playing
* Play improvised scenes
Each person has their own way of improvising, of playing characters, that are fun for an audience to watch and fun to play. Maybe the mind, with its judgment and fear, is now hiding this part of you. The goal of our workshops is to unlock that part of you by providing a safe environment and the tools to improvise.
**About the venue:**
We are meeting at The LAB, studio 1.
NOTE: We ask a fee of 10⬠per person to help pay for the room/costs of the asc group. Please pay the organizer after the event (cash, revolut or PayPal).
šBook Swap And Social - Treat Your S(h)elf š
š There are always books that live within ourselves. Some books are living rent-free in the house. We need space for new books and to let go of some old ones. In reality, space to accumulate books in Dublin is only a dream. You may be a tsundoku (book hoarder). And want to let go a few books :-)
This will also provide an opportunity to refresh our literary tastes, book review from the participants, and declutter our bookshelves. āØ
So let's exchange books and discuss them together! š¬
š **Guidelines**
* Please bring your used or new books (plural, please!) to swap. Engage in discussions with other participants about the books.
* If you read e-books, I understand your situation; however, you are welcome to join us and take home a few books for your reading.
š **How does this work?**
Bring the books you'd like to swap and place them on the **book swap table**. Then pick the book you like and continue the conversations with the particpants.
**What happens if no one picks my book?**
You can take the book back with you or leave it in the table. As an organizer, I will take the book and donate to the charity bookshop or place in the little library like one in Pearse Street Dart Station.
Feel free to walk around and explore what other participants have brought. When you spot something that interests you, grab it before someone else does! Trust meāthere's always friendly competition for the best reads.
**Don't forget to bring a bag to carry your new books home!**
We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event!
ā ļø**Something Happened?**
If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. It may be small but don't hesitate to reach out to me.
š **How to find us?**
* When I reach the venue, I'll leave a comment in the meetup where the group is seated. Normally, the booking is in my name, so you can ask the staff for the group.
* If you're unable to find us, leave a comment in the meetup page. I'll be able to guide you.
As an organizer, I'm always looking for feedback about the event and suggestions for new events, so feel free to suggest ideas to me. š”
I hope to see you all soon! š

Letās enhance our curiosity and creativity in ourselves and others through Movement.
In this event we will have easy exercises and games prepared for us to associate on life in a playful and fun way, and create choreographies with music.
An Example of an Exercise: In small groups, we visualise a word with a 5 second gesture, followed by another person, who will associate on that gesture, and create their own. With music, the rhythm can influence the size, intensity and speed of your motion. The other exercises will be a surprise.

Let's try a Friday Night Fish Fry!
We thought of one of the interesting things that can be enjoyed at this time of the year. We will be meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a "Fish Fry" in Marian Hall on Friday, March 27th at 5:00 PM.
It might be fun for you to experience what has become a tradition on the Fridays before Easter. They will have fried fish or baked fish, French fries and Cole slaw, as well as beverages, all for $16.00 for adults. They will have other beverages and desserts available for sale, as well. We have never tried this, and sometimes there are quite a few people at these events so we hope that we will be able to find each other easily. I'll try to have signs outside Marian Hall that Identify our group. We hope to have you join us!

So come and join us and meet other local atheists, along with agnostics, heathens, humanists, skeptics, and anyone else who's 'hell bound'!
