En 1991, seulement 17.6% s’identifiaient comme taïwanais. **Que signifie ce changement ?** Pékin affirme aujourd’hui que l’île de Taïwan lui appartient et menace d’annexer par tous les moyens cette démocratie de facto indépendante,…Mais au delà de cette menace, on prend rarement le temps de parler de Taïwan et de sa population de plus de 23 millions d’habitants dont les vies basculeraient dans le cas d’une invasion chinoise. Taïwan abrite une société multiculturelle qui, au travers des siècles, a subi les colonisations espagnoles, hollandaises, japonaises, et enfin la terrible loi martiale des nationalistes chinois de Chiang-Kai Shek.
