Community Conversations: The Art of Boredom
The Art of Boredom: Reclaiming Stillness in a Frantic World.
We live in a world of constant stimulation, where time often feels like a commodity that owns us.
Somewhere along the way, with our pace of life we've lost a vital human capacity: the ability to simply sit with our own thoughts and feel "bored." But what happens to our mental health, our creativity, and our relationships when we never pause!
Join us for our next Community Conversation as we explore The Art of Boredom. Our guest sparker will draw on her unique background to help us explore how reclaiming the "unstructured pause" is actually the first step toward building a deeper, more compassionate connection with ourselves and our neighbourhood.
Community Conversations is an initiative of the Boroondara Baha'i community, held monthly, to bring like-minded people together to explore themes around current challenges, strengthen connection and understanding.
This is a free event and all are invited to attend.

âThe Uninitiated Masculine As The Feeling Body As the âOrgan of Initiationâ.
People will do anything, no matter how absurd, to avoid facing their own souls.â

Allow yourself to Feel into this situation). You are a teenage boy in a Rite of Passage Circle, sitting around a camp fire with 45 other boys. The facilitator asks you to answer the simple question âHow are you actually going? Would you prefer to be hunting a lion on the Savannah?!?â ⌠How do you respond?
Based on first hand practical experience with this group work, Andrewâs talk will propose âThe Feeling Body as the organ of Initiationâ. He will explore essential questions of our time: âHow can we offer modern boys and men of all ages impeccably held Rites, that are able to move them meaningfully beyond performance and disconnection?â
What is possible when young boys and men are supported to powerfully inhabit their feeling body? From a larger perspective, how can we support men into becoming agents of meaningful change, and invite them to step up to the huge challenges facing us in this chaotic (individual and collective) moment?
The world is calling out for our âlostâ boys and men to do so, begging them to step up to the lion, to offer themselves back.
Andrew Levitas-Cameron holds a Batchelor of Health & Exercise Science from UNSW, as well as a Batchelor of Paramedicine from UTAS Rozelle. His first âhugeâ personal initiation occurred in Mexico in 2009 and launched him on his current path...drawing him through 15 years exploring Initiatory Rites the world over.
This extensive background places him at a unique axis to offer wisdom on this nuanced and contentious space, in a way few others can. During the last four years, he has facilitated more than 140 Rites of Passage coming into deep contact with nearly 5,000 teenagers!
Andrew is well positioned for this vocational work, regarding emotional truth-telling as the modern âordealâ and âgateway to authentic adulthood.â He is passionate about nestling individuals into a relational system that allows for meaningful thresholds of transformationâŚat any and all stages of life!

Shades of Courage
đż **Take a gentle pause this June as we connect, reflect and explore *Shades of Courage*.**
SoulTime offers a welcoming space for **reflection, meaningful conversation and connection** in a peaceful setting overlooking nature. Sessions include gentle music, short readings from diverse cultures, faiths and perspectives, and open discussion around uplifting themes relevant to everyday life.
This month, **we'll explore the many different ways courage manifests in our lives** \- from bold leaps of faith to quiet moments of inner strength\.
đą To help make SoulTime accessible for families, we are continuing our ***SoulTime Kids*** program! This is a parallel session for primary-aged children that runs while adults attend the main gathering, often exploring similar themes through their own creative, reflective and values-based activities. The kids' session is facilitated by a qualified primary school teacher or youth worker (with current Working with Children Checks).
SoulTime remains open to everyone, regardless of background, beliefs or life stage.
Light refreshments will be served following the group discussion.
We hope you can join us! ââ¨
Magic Mind & Peak Consciousness: Cultivating Psychic Abilities - Dr. Alex de Foe
**What if psychical abilities (psi) can be cultivated in earlier life?** What are the implications for modern society and our perception of the world? A new theory based on entropy and perception may hold the answers...
After 70+ years of controlled studies into psychical phenomena, scholars still lack a cohesive theory of what makes them possible....
**In this presentation, Dr Alex De Foe** draws on his 15+ years of research to model psi as an emergent lifespan experience - understanding it in relation to neural development and entropy, experiences often reported by children. Drawing upon the "free energy model" in perception and social neuroscience, Alex will make the case for cultivation of psi in pivotal states of consciousness.
Part 2 will focus on experiential analysis to support the argument, including case studies and a short practice task called 'Image Streaming' that engages aspects of the mind at the periphery of experience.
**Image Streaming** is a technique that bridges the divide between the conscious, unconscious, and super-conscious mind, related to Michael Thalbourne's concept of 'transliminality', in which material flows between these dimensions of mind seamlessly.
**Case studies will be presented from:**
* Research into out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and lucid dreams
* A new theory on archetypes and the collective unconscious
* Speculative accounts at the bridge between spiritual emergence and spiritual 'emergency'
**About Dr. Alexander De Foe (PhD, M Couns):**
* Academic at Monash University (2021-2026).
* Runs a research program on mindfulness/consciousness
* At RMIT University (2016-2021), he managed a virtual reality lab focusing on embodied cognition and social neuroscience.
* Published over 30 peer-reviewed studies/papers on consciousness, perception, and general psychology.
* Chair of the Australian Centre for Consciousness Studies
* Committee Member of the Australian Institute of Parapsychological Research
* Associate Editor at the Anthropology of Consciousness Journal.

Sunday Meditation | Community Building | Connection | Meet New People
**Who We are..... đ¤**
Our journey to bring people together began in January of 2022. The group was started with a simple intention to gather and meet some likeminded people - connecting through the powerful act of meditation and sharing our genuine selves while sitting in a circle that represents equality, harmony and wholeness( *we believe everyone in the circle is a teacher and a student at the same time)*.
And over the last 4 years of consistently coming together, we have fostered a beautiful, loving, dependable community where members from all walks of life have experienced a sacred space to sit in silence together and meditate, share their authentic selves, give presence to others and forge meaningful and long lasting connections.
The Meditations are guided by Sana(co-founder and host), who is a Trained and certified meditation teacher by the Meditation Association of Australia, and has been guiding meditations for 3+ years in corporate and community settings.

CMG Gives Back: Serve Dinner at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, weâll help âCreate a better worldâ by helping serve those in need. NOTE: Weâre switching it up this time and going with a DINNER shift on Mon, 7/6. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION â GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for DINNER from 4:30 to 6:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 4:20pm and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission â Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking are available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain youâll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to those volunteering at this (or any of our previous or future) CMG Gives Back events!
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
