Maestro Impro (TM) Free Warm-up
Maestro Impro (TM) Free Warm-up
The excitement, the fun, the drama - experience Maestro Impro(TM), the most famous theatresports format across the world! Improvisors from Vienna’s vibrant improv scene will be joined by international guests to fight for the audience’s favor. The show has an elimination structure, where randomly chosen improvisors play scenes with each other. The directors set up the scenes, which will be scored by the audience. The players given the highest scores continue while those with lower numbers leave the show. This goes on for several rounds until only one improvisor remains - the Maestro. You can also be part of the show - if you want! The directors will host a free warm-up workshop for all contestants to get to know each other. And we invite everyone to join us for this workshop. At the end, we will ask for volunteers and pick a few participants to go on stage with the already set cast. This offer is open for all levels of impro, even beginners! This time the warm-up will be led by our directors Shawn Fisher and Hanna Scharf- If you do not get selected, you will need a ticket to see the show. And since there can only be a few lucky ones, we advise you to buy your tickets now (you get your money back if you are selected): [Buy Ticket](https://maestro.viennaimprov.org/)[!](https://www.yesticket.org/event/de/maestro-impro-comedy-show-08-11-22/) You need to RSVP to this event if you want to participate in the warm-up! The participation in the warm-up does not guarantee a spot in the show, it only gets you a chance.

UX VIENNA at home with Arnold Schönberg
UX VIENNA at home with Arnold Schönberg
Arnold Schönberg (1874–1951) was one of the most significant figures in the creative world in the first half of the 20th century. Following in the tradition of Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Mahler, the Austrian (and, after his immigration to New York and later Los Angeles, also US-American) composer, music theorist, teacher, and writer reshaped the practice of harmony in classical music. Some of Schönberg’s most famous contributions were the development of his twelve-tone-method and his attention to sound color (Klangfarbe), both of which strongly influenced generations of composers up until today. But Schönberg’s creative world goes beyond music. He was a designer, painter, inventor, and systems thinker: building tools and furniture, binding books, designing stage sets and costumes, inventing machines, and even building his own chess set, for four players. In this meetup, we explore Schönberg through a UX lens: what can his way of thinking, making, and problem-solving teach us about design, tools, and user experience today? We will also look at the museum and concert space as an experience that unfolds through the perception of an audience. The [Arnold Schönberg Center](https://schoenberg.at/) is a repository of Schönberg's archival legacy. Director Dr. Ulrike Anton will provide an introduction to the Arnold Schönberg Center. User researcher Dr. Franziska Brunner will give us a guided tour and lead a discussion of the exhibition. Arnold Schönberg's estate is on [UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register](https://www.unesco.at/en/communication/documentary-heritage/memory-of-the-world-in-austria/arnold-schoenberg-estate), recognized for its global importance as a documentary heritage. After an afternoon in the museum space from 3:00–6:00 p.m.. We also invite you to attend an [in-house concert at 6:30 p.m](https://schoenberg.at/en/events/upcoming-events/3793/loops-from-other-planets)., followed by dinner. 🎻 🍽️ * The €18 concert price includes entrance to the exhibit. (Entrance to just the exhibit without the concert costs € 6.) * Admission for both the museum and the concert is free for those under 26 years old. * Dinner afterwards is optional, and everyone will cover their own meal. *Photo: Replica of Schönberg's study room © Johannes Böck*

Contra dance with Big Scioty May 2 - Clinton Heights Lutheran church
Contra dance with Big Scioty May 2 - Clinton Heights Lutheran church
**Caller: Richard Ades** **Band: The McKenzies** **Clinton Heights Lutheran Church** **15 Clinton Heights Ave, Columbus, OH 43202** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/) Please bring your own refillable water bottle.

City Lights (1931)
City Lights (1931)
"The SOB is a ballet dancer. He’s the best ballet dancer that ever lived, and if I get a good chance I’ll kill him with my bare hands." - W.C. Fields In *City Lights*, Chaplin's Little Tramp meets a blind girl selling flowers who mistakes him for a wealthy man. When he learns that an operation may restore her sight, he sets off to earn the money she needs to have the surgery. He also befriends an alcoholic millionaire who only recognizes him when he is drunk. When the blind girl and her grandmother fall behind in the rent and face eviction, he tries working and even enters a boxing competition to raise the money they need. Regarded as Chaplin's masterpiece, *City Lights* has been ranked on more than seventeen "100 greatest movies of all time" lists. Orson Welles cited it as his favorite picture. *City Lights* is available for streaming on Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBOMax, Tubi and PlutoTV. The Columbus Library lists three copies on blu-ray and eight copies on DVD. Watch the movie on your own, then join us upstairs at East Market to discuss the film.
