Ski/Snowboard - Liberty Mountain + Hot Pot Hero
Winter calls for a different mountain experience - let's trade in our hiking boots for ski boots and hit the slopes!
We will meet at North Bethesda Metro (previously named White Flint) at 8AM and carpool to the resort. Drive time is about 1 hour and 30mins - Please post a comment below if you are willing to drive. Carpooling saves the environment and makes friends.

**Trip Details:**
Let's give Liberty a shot this time. Liberty is a small ski resort, but with a drive less than 2 hours, it's easy to get to the mountain and back home in time for dinner. Liberty is thought of as being more beginner friendly than the nearby Whitetail, but does offer several large terrain parks.
This is not designed as a trip to help with ski/snowboard instruction. However, Liberty does offer both lessons and rentals.
On the way back, I plan to stop at a hot pot restaurant called Hot Pot Hero in Gaithersburg, MD. Address is 100 Paramount Park Dr, Gaithersburg, MD 20879.
**WHAT TO BRING:**
* Ski/snowboard gear (rentals available onsite)
* Lift ticket or season pass (available onsite)
* Warm layers, gloves, and goggles (available onsite)
* Helmet - optional (available onsite)
* Snacks, water, and electrolytes (available onsite)
* Steez
**LIFT TICKETS:** You will need to either purchase an Epic Season Pass or single-day lift tickets. The ticket prices vary, but I recommend purchasing them well in advance as they can (and do) sell out.

Movement Columbia Saturday Boulder & Brews
**Description:**
Join us for a late morning of indoor bouldering at [Movement Columbia](https://movementgyms.com/columbia/) followed by an optional lunch at nearby restaurant [Jailbreak Brewing](https://jailbreakbrewing.com/). Plan is to boulder for about 2-3 hours and then make our way to the brewery.
If needed, you can arrive early to the gym for rental equipment (climbing shoes, chalk, etc.). If it's your first time to the gym, you'll need to sign a [waiver](https://movementgyms.com/waiver/) when you arrive, or you can do it ahead of time here. **Sends with Friends Rock Climbing Meetup Waiver and Release of Liability**

Whiteoak Canyon - Cedar Run Waterfall and Ice Hike
Let's take this traditional Adventuring winter hike (previously nicknamed The Ice Hike). Not just waterfalls and more waterfalls, these will be some of Shenandoah’s most iconic. This hike is part of the Hike All the Named Waterfalls in SNP series (number 4). If you’re into waterfalls, this is surely the best hike in all of Shenandoah National Park. If the falls are iced over, then this hike upgrades to transcendent.
There will be nine waterfalls in all, ranging from a series of gorgeous cascades to the spectacular Upper and Lower Whiteoak Canyon Falls. For the water to fall so dramatically, the terrain must be steep; we will be ascending and descending next to where the water is falling. We'll take plenty of short stops to savor the views (to catch our breath and to take those all-important selfies). With its 8.5 miles length, and 2306 feet of elevation gain, this circuit route is very strenuous. Also, be prepared for two shallow stream crossings on the return leg along Cedar Run, so leaving a pair of dry sox and street shoes in the car is recommended.
Bring lunch, 3 liters of water, and sunscreen, and be sure to wear waterproof hiking boots with good treads (the path is steep and rocky and those rocks can be slippery). Dressing in layers is essential. You will be peeling them off and adding them back on throughout the day. Packing a set of ice traction cleats or crampons is suggested, but not required. This ice gear must not be worn on wet rocks, where it becomes a hazard.
If you carpool, transportation and trip fees will be $20, which includes the $5 Adventuring fee (paid by all) and $15 for your driver. Also factor in the cost of our restaurant stop on the return. This is a full day hike. We'll meet for forming our carpools at 8:30 a.m. at the East Falls Church Metro Kiss & Ride parking lot. We will make a convenience pit stop half way to the trailhead (Sheetz). We may return as late as 9 p.m.

A Poetry Workshop
Hey Poetry Lovers!
This group is on a roll. Here’s the gist:
We meet at the **Capital One Café in Chinatown** from **12pm - 2pm** every other week.
For enrichment, we start by reading and reflecting on a **“published poem”**, suggested by someone in the group. No advance preparation is necessary. Next, we **share our work and offer feedback**. Depending on attendance, everyone gets \~10 minutes to use as they like. (No need to share, though; you’re welcome to come even if you prefer just to listen.)
We maintain a **Discord server** to help share our work and communicate outside our bi-weekly meet-ups. If you haven’t used Discord before, take a moment to download it and create an account before arriving. When we meet you on Saturday, we will add you to our server, the “DC Poetry Workshop”, and can help you navigate the app if you have questions.
Finally, if you plan on sharing a poem, consider how you will do so. Some options include:
* Print 5-10 copies to distribute in person
* Take and share screenshots in the Discord chat.
* Copy the poem into a google doc, change sharing settings to “anyone with link”, and copy the google doc link into the Discord chat.

The Entry Experience: South Africa | Interest List Deadline
This event marks the **interest deadline** for *The Entry Experience: South Africa* — a small, guided travel-planning experience designed for women who want to thoughtfully plan their own journey to South Africa with clarity, confidence, and cultural awareness.
This is **not a group trip**.
Instead, The Entry Experience supports women who are:
* Considering South Africa within the next 12–18 months
* Planning to travel solo, with a partner, or with a small family
* Looking for structure, insight, and trusted guidance *before* booking
Participation is intentionally limited.
Those who join the interest list by this date will:
* Be the first to receive registration details
* Receive full information once enrollment opens
* Have priority access before the experience fills
There is **no obligation** to join by adding your name to the interest list.
This simply signals that South Africa is a destination you are genuinely considering.

Hike - Preview #3 of AMC 150 Relay Segment on WB&A Trail
This is the third hike of a preparation/progression series that builds up to the AMC 150 Relay segment scheduled for 3/29/26. That relay segment will be 8.3 miles. This third hike in our preparation series is six miles in length (out and back). It’s a flat rail trail on a section of the WB&A Trail, so it is rated as easy. Feel free to join with no commitment to doing the relay segment or any other hike in this series.
All participants must register individually for the hike at [https://activities.outdoors.org](https://activities.outdoors.org/) so that the waiver is signed and an emergency contact is provided. No dogs. We will meet at the parking lot [location available upon registration].
The WB&A Trail is a converted rail-trail, converted from an electric commuter railway that served Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis. The trail winds its way between Prince Georges County and Anne Arundel County, offering a mix of woods, water, and residential communities along the asphalt path. A bridge across the Patuxent River was completed in Spring 2025, now linking Prince George’s County and Anne Arundel County. (We will not see the bridge on this 6-mile hike.) The trail offers a peek behind the curtain of suburbia, with marshy wetlands, woods, bridges and tunnels, along with some trail sections that pass through residential neighborhoods and some road crossings.
A bit about the AMC 150 Relay: we’re celebrating AMC’s 150th Birthday! From March to October, volunteers from AMC are offering events galore—a succession of hikes and other outdoor activities from Virginia to Maine, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the organization’s founding in 1876. Though historically rooted in New England, over time AMC has expanded and established regional chapters through the Mid-Atlantic, including today’s host, the Potomac Chapter.

These Meetups are co-ed, super laid back, and all skill levels are welcome. Post your skill level and a suggested court in the comments section so we can round up as many players as we can for some tennis fun!
