For our very first book club meeting, we’re heading to 19th-century Brazil with ***The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas*** by **Machado de Assis!** First published in 1881, this novel turns the idea of a memoir upside down. Its narrator, Brás Cubas, begins his story after his death, freed from reputation, consequence, and social expectation.
