Thank you for all those who participated in our Speak & Spades Night on April 10! We are hosting another event at the same venue in Downtown Silver Spring - Comma's Food Hall inside City Place Mall.
This time, it will be more about the game - a traditional night of Spades play, lots of laughs, and Friday fun.
â ď¸ Spades games will be the main event, from 6pm to 10pm! Play cards, eat, drink, & socialize! Enjoy drink specials and variety of reasonably-priced restaurant options.

Friday soccer in the JFK Hockey Fields (Co-ed)
Join us for a pickup on a weekday! Group is relatively small which means you will get to show your skill and run quite a bit ! It is a co-ed game and open to all. Once the players limit is reached, no player will be admitted into the game. We already got a number of players confirmed OFFLINE as guests of Host(s) through Signal. *Those in waitlist will be moved to the confirmed list only when spot becomes available.*
*The games RULES are as below, fair play and camaraderie must be followed*.
â˝ It is a friendly game, no slide or back tackling, no rough play, and no greedy play or coaching.
â˝ Join the **Signal group**, Download ***[Signal app](https://signal.org/download/)*** and ***[join the Signal group](https://signal.group/#CjQKIBolYKIpshcX_ooOu_fmV7xlbEeJm5zBZ6_V8uTiuFNOEhAk5KeXU1QFVt39OBRP106d)*** for the game day updates. *Firstcomer, SEE the host to approve you to join the group*.
â˝ No groupism or favors, everyone gets to play without regard for the level be it starter, intermediate or advanced. One must pass ball to appropriate fellow players without favors or preference to a particular player(s).
â˝ **You are expected to change positions**, no one is permanent striker or defense, make sure you circle around and give chance to everyone to experience the game fully. Rotate and offer to play full back or defense too not just forward.
â˝In case of disagreement during the game, the **host acts as a referee** so the game stays smooth and enjoyable to everyone.
â˝ You must bring WHITE as well as DARK jersies (and ball too if you can).
â˝ Send DM to host(s) on Signal if you have questions. (NOT to the group except on the game day not more than one hour before the game to reduce distractions)
â˝ Look out for the changes in location of the field in case we would have to change the field.
â˝ Change your RSVP if needed. More than two no shows after RSVP will be banned for next games. If you need to cancel, do so at least 3 or 4 hours before the game. We do not want to have a low turn out due to last minute cancellations or no shows.

VMO: C&O canal towpath bikepacking
For some reason I canât stop thinking about this. I really want to do the whole C&O towpath next year. I just impulse bought all the bike spots on the Floridian 40 to Cumberland at 3:57pm on the Friday of memorial day 2026. As that is almost a year away I will post more about it later but this is just my obsession right now so here is the basic information:
* splits are roughly 60/60/60 with a little wiggle room depending on which campsites we go with and how much we do Friday night
* the cost of this trip is $53 for your train ticket
* for this train, you can just hand your bike fully loaded to the guy at the train luggage car and they will give it back to you at the platform in Cumberland, super easy
* Iâm making this VMO+previous bike experience, we donât really have bikepacking levels but you should be confident with basic bike maintenance and have the knowledge, tools and materials to fix a flat tire, fix a broken chain, wrenches for your bikeâs nuts and bolts, etc. you should also have a bailout plan in case of emergency since nobody will have a car
* you will need a bike that can handle gravel
* the tickets are changeable and refundable so you can catch the train at a different spot if it would be more convenient (Alexandria, Rockville)

This group is on a roll. Hereâs the gist:
We meet at the **Capital One CafĂŠ in Chinatown** from **12pm - 2pm** every other week.
For enrichment, we start by reading and reflecting on a **âpublished poemâ**, suggested by someone in the group. No advance preparation is necessary. Our first Technoverts meetup had a great turnout, so we're doing it again, this time with an optional conversation theme: **How people are actually using AI in everyday work and life**. This is not a panel or presentation, and I do not have a fixed agenda, it's just a relaxed coffee conversation for people in tech (or tech-adjacent fields) who are curious about practical AI use cases, useful tools, workflow hacks, weird experiments, and what's generally helping people right now.
*Topics might include:*
* AI tools people actually use at work
* Productivity and automation
* Prompting successes and failures
* Writing, coding, research, analytics and creative use cases
* What feels overhyped vs. genuinely useful.
No expertise is required. It's completely fine to come mostly curious, skeptical, or just interested in meeting thoughtful people in tech.
